First inspection AZ Hive

It's been 1 week since we installed the NUC in our AZ Hive and so it was time for the first inspection. We were impressed with the number of bees, but disappointed that we didn't find the queen!

What is "somewhat impractical"? AZ Hives? We dont think so. It's just another way of beekeeping. Our bees arent complaining?😉

Thanks for posting. Thinking of going this route next spring. Did you buy a special nuc to fit or did you use an American az hive? Best of luck

Howard Coffman We have American AZ Hives so we were able to use standard Langstroth NUCS with a slight modification to the top of our AZ frames (secured wooden dowels to frames so they'd hang properly in NUCS) or you can pop out the foundation (if using plastic foundation) of the regular Langstroth frame to place in the American AZ frame when transferring a NUC to the hive. We now, however, have purchased an American AZ NUC that we can use so that we dont have to modify the frames. It'll be much easier hopefully. Thanks for watching.We're still learning the art of beekeeping, but have really enjoyed having these types of hives.

How do the bees flying around after inspections get back in ?

Inside hives I tossed with a idea trailer wise for same idea but moveable. I winter inside here in Canada my first year also I subscribed please do the same and best to you and the bees

Since you are "inside" do you feel like you should not have your bee suit on?

Inside the Beehouse the bees are contained inside their hive so there is no need to wear a suit unless we are doing a hive inspection or going into the hive for some other reason.
