The way you described VRS made me think of quicksand. Something a lot of people have an irrational fear of, having seen it used in a bunch of old movies and TV shows, but not something that comes up very often in real life.
@CasmoTV7 ай бұрын
The best analogy yet.
@fabiotuzzi37247 ай бұрын
On my Lil experience, 800 hours, you really have to work hard to get in vrs, settling with power is similar but different. Anyway in dcs unfortunately especially with Huey and Mi8 is very easy to get in trouble, but also wind is not really modeled very well, is more like turbulence. And MP server turned down the wind direction so is very hard for elicopter to benefit of the lifting factor of into wind flying.
@rubadubdubb7 ай бұрын
As a crew chief, only ever experienced it once. We were at high altitude and low speed and the pic caught it immediately. I don't think anyone else even noticed.
@matthewjackson53256 ай бұрын
My theory is because most real world pilots wont exp it untils its a problem they dont survive. In dcs every helicopter pilot has "died" 100x times from it. They also learn how to avoid it for how many hours before entering the bird, we learn from "what just happened?".
@fabiotuzzi37246 ай бұрын
@matthewjackson5325 wind in dcs is not realistic, in real life wind is life, landing and take off into wind is life, especially if heavy and low power available in hot day, a breeze of wind make so much of a difference. In DCS no. Soon maybe....

Always love seeing pictures from time in service. I never took any and no one I knew did either. So there are almost 3 years of service with time in Afghanistan and no photographic evidence it ever happened. I think the only picture ever taken was after a Humvee hit an IED and turned into scrap metal but no one was seriously injured.

Was also great to see some tricks to get the laser guided rockets a little bit more range. Can't wait to get this onto my server so I can take it for a fly. Thanks for giving us internet peasants an early look @Casmo.

Okay, that M4 in the pic at 12:00 is actually kinda interesting. That looks like a pretty basic free-float handguard that would have been commercially available at the time (Essentially just an aluminium tube with some holes drilled in it). Some unit armorer must have decided to get a little creative because while it's not especially difficult to do at an armorer level, it's not as simple as taking the standard clamshell handguards off and slapping a new one on.

The only thing I liked about going to Saudi was wearing the desert flightsuit (more comfortable than green) with the boonie hat and desert boots (not authorized on flights but we wore them anyways). But you are right, if you were out in the Riyadh sun or in the Khobar humidity, the onesie got really hot and you'd sweat like a pig.

About your comment on the VPForce Rhino: I got mine about 2 months ago and I absolutely love it. It's worth every penny. I fly a lot of rotary wing and it's just incredible for that. I always find the argument about helpers funny. So people are worried someone will "abuse" the simplified AI flight mode, which is actually a sub par imitation of a COPILOT that you have in the real aircraft! What's there to "abuse"?! If you want an advantage fly realistically with a real human CP/G in the left seat or PLT in the right seat. Nobody "abusing" the AI will have the slightest chance, against a well oiled human team... or is flying the KW with two humans considered "abusing" the Multicrew capability to have an advantage over the poor players that don't have a human copilot? 🤔

@redtailpilot6 ай бұрын
Yeah that caught me by surprise as well, because, due to the way it's modelled in DCS, I equated it with Stall/Spin accidents in fixed wings. There's a damn good reason that's talked about so much!!! As a real world GA pilot for over two decades and a flight simmer for over three, I find these videos of actual pilots using/flying the simulations that I've grown to love (and sharing their real world experiences)......INVALUABLE! There is not even the slightest conversation to be had about whether it's plausible or accurate because it wasn't at the point where you would have that conversation. Perhaps the new model is better. Someone made an YT video trying to correlate inputs but I can't remember the title.
