Well they kinda have 3 drummers but the main drummer is Jay (since 2014 at least) and he's playing everything you hear. The other percussion is basically heard only if you really listen close. They rarely pop out in the mix.

I’m glad you’re using lyric videos instead of music videos. I think you appreciate the song more this way so you’re Not overly distracted by the video. Jay Weinberg is a goddamn beast, and was the perfect replacement for Joey Jordison. If you listen close, sometimes you can hear a little bit of Max's funk/jazz roots creep in, which adds a lot of depth to some of the songs.

Must see in concert, the energy they give is tense as hell. They had 3 levels on stage when I saw them last year at Slipknot Fest in Scranton,Pa. The venue I saw them in was outside, mountain top and insane.

Check out some Gojira, Pantera, Avatar, HELLYEAH, Godsmack,HATEBREED, and Meshuggah . All these groups have great drummers. And on a little lighter but still very technical, check out Todd Sucherman from Styx. He is a amazing drummer.

yeah the chains thing...he's talking about his feeling of loss and betrayal. loss at losing their bassist, betrayal at joey jordison quitting the group (a little unfair as he had medical issues....) but yeah, its about the shift in group members and processing the change. the official video....is the inauguration of the new members...all of them dying in pretty grisly ways facing their individual fears

Should check out Slayer if you love drums and Slipknot. The Drummer for Slayer, Dave Lombardo, is known as the godfather of the double bass. I suggest starting off with Seasons in The Abyss or Expendable Youth.

Primarily the drums are done by ONE PERSON yes clown does play some and one other plays some but if you want to see it for yourself check out slipknot heretic anthem Joey jordison (the original drummer) camera view live he has been replaced due to spinal issues by Jay Weinberg ( max Weinbergs son max played most notably for Bruce Springsteen and headed up the band for the conan o'Brien show)

The song it a mix of two things. This was after his divorce with his (obviously) ex wife, and the death of the original drummer of the band. Then if you watch the video, every time they release a new video, there is a “cleansing of the old”, which can get pretty graphic. LOL! They have new masks for each new album they come out with, so they “kill” the old ones. The band may be heavy Nu Metal, but they have some deep stuff in their videos and lyrics.

You can’t take metal music lyrics at face value. It’s almost always written in a poetry form, often with plot twists, that needs to be listened to carefully. You’ll likely notice some inconsistencies and realize it’s not what you were thinking. Its really about the war inside yourself. Trying not to give into defeatism, trying not to give into negativity, trying not to give up. It's a struggle. It's one of the hardest thing you can do, is to give in to that side of yourself.

My interpretation of this is that the singer is trapped, enchained by the idea the subject of the song believes them to be. "I'm not your devil anymore". And at the very least it seems the subject is projecting their own demons onto the singer.
