Kate has been a mainstay of the UK folk scene for over 20 years. Very down to earth. She has turned her back on "fame" to stay true to her roots. She is a proud Yorkshire lass who hasn't lost her accent. She has around 20 albums available. Please react to Sandy Denny "Who Knows Where the Time Goes?" which Kate has covered.

This singer's voice is so filled with emotion that it's impossible *not* to be moved by it. And once again Daniel's deep empathy and compassion for others are evident. Best. Reactor. Ever.

Kate Rusby is a true gem. I was captured by her in about 2000 when I heard her song "Sweet Bride" from her 2nd album. A fantastic, personable and really genuine human with a gorgeous voice that's wrapped in her Yorkshire tint, she's also as mad as a box of frogs judging by her youtube channel. She's a great interpreter of traditional songs but also a fine songwriter in her own right. Try her moving song "My Young Man" writen in honour of her grandparents.

Sad to see this Wonderfull singer getting so few views, people must only watch reactions for artists they already know.
@DiconDissectionalReactions2 жыл бұрын
I have been trying to cultivate an audience who is openminded, but yeah I have also noticed that the general viewer of "reaction" content is there to see people listen to their favorite music, not find new stuff. Hopefully this channel will be the one to change the game.

@@DiconDissectionalReactions It may partially, but in general you're correct. Delighted to see you unexpectedly being moved by Kate Rusby, who I know well.

It's a shame other music reactors haven't listened to Kate Rusby yet. As well as the achingly beautiful way she somehow manages to sing high and low at the same time, I love that she sings in her regional accent - Bolton, near Sheffield in Yorkshire. Regional accent representation is quite important in the folk music scene, which aims to recapture and celebrate the songwriting and musical traditions of the 18th and 19th centuries, while also writing new songs in the genre along the way, often with a heavy working class political focus. Reading "folk" as the ordinary and poor people, and the songs they wrote and sang while the aristocracy and the rich were playing chamber music and listening to classical. Folk music involves a certain amount of cultural archaelogy, because the songs of the poor didn't tend to get recorded, as posh people saw them as less than. It was an oral tradition until people starting deliberately going looking for folk songs and folk tales to write down in the late 19th century. In North America that folk music tradition became part of early Country music, especially Bluegrass.

I am going to see Kate Rusby at a small festival this weekend at Holker Hall which is the first place I worked full time in 1989 and is also where I met my best friend who started my musical education. I have seen Kate live a few times over the years. She does some great songs my favourite has always been The Wild Goose. She has a beautiful voice my wife has all of her albums

Another singer/ songwriter who tackled this subject is Luba. Her "Every time I see your picture I cry" is often mistaken as a breakup song, but it how she handled her grief over her father's death. A two way look at that topic is Chris de Burgh's "The Son and the Father" - where he reflects on his relationship with his departed father and his current relationship with his son.

I first heard Kate Rusby singing 'The Village Green Apreciation Society', as the theme tune for British TV comedy series 'Jam and Jerusalem'. It's a song originally done by The Kinks. Have a listen Daniel, it's cheery. Love her voice.

This song has haunted me since singing it and playing guitar with the community choir (CSI:Halifax). It frustrated me at the time that I didn't have time to learn the altered guitar tuning that Kate uses. So I revisited it and made my own arrangement. No point in trying to imitate Kate's brilliant and unique performance so I 'made it my own' as they say. kzbin.info/www/bejne/apmnpmSOgN9meq8

Hi Daniel It is great to see you react to Kate Rusby. I have been a fan of her voice and music for a number of years. I love her album, " The Girl Who Couldn't Fly " ( 2005 ). You may be interested to know that she has also recorded a cover of The Kinks' " The Village Green Preservation Society ". I am almost sure that Laura Marling would be another British songwriter that you would love. Listen to her songs, " What He Wrote " or " Fortune " to bring another tear to your eye. Cheers !

Thanks, Daniel. Kate Rusby is a traditional English folk singer from Barnsley, England, UK. She loves to collect very old poems and turn them into songs and she writes her own material too, of course. I have a playlist if you'd like to listen to more from this amazing woman. kzbin.info/aero/PLQ1jKrPGNt37Is4N7bAH5uq7HaQU9vGc6
