Thanks so much for doing this review. I don't buy many pedals, but I think this one is going to be added to my small collection. I love those sounds, and the Klaus Voormann artwork is a huge plus.

FWIW... Klaus also did the cover artwork for Spooky Tooth's 1973 album You Broke My Heart So I Busted Your Jaw. A great rock album featuring Gary Wright, and a pre-Foreigner Mick Jones on guitar. The inside gatefold's illustration is notably catchy and funny. Klaus also was bassist for Carly Simon's mammoth 70's hit song (and album) You're So Vain.

Thanks, John. Would have been good to show this on an SG too, because the Casino and SG were particularly prevalent during the 'Revolver' and 'Sgt. Pepper' sessions. Klaus Voorman was also an in demand bass player in the early 70s - he was on a lot of hits.

John, I have one of their boards and they use rubber inserts to hold pedals by pressing on the sides. No need for Velcro or anything that would‘damage’ a pedal so if ya wanna sell something, most stay in mint condition. Works pretty good. Fwiw!

Pretty cool concept and I dig the details. It sounds pretty close, I've played old 60's Vox Solid State amps and this pedal reminds me of how they sounded, I actually dug them both for clean and that solid state gritty drive/fuzz.

I don't know about the recording process for Rubber Soul and Revolver, but I've read and watched things that said their guitars were sometimes put direct into the desk, clipped and the signal was returned into the desk's overdriven channel to clip it even further. This process was used a few years later, on Revolution, but there's a great youtuber video where a guy recreates the tone 'perfectly' through fakery, whilst describing the original process. You might find it interesting! kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGHKYayQgMd9hpY

The Beatles wanted to use Fender amps and guitars early on but they were too expensiven for them at the start of their career. Epstein got them a deal with Vox (after throwing in the deal that they would never use any other live gear while he was alive). So they stuck to Vox for live amplification during their touring years but often used other brands in the studio until Brian died and the Vox afilitiation slowly went cold.

Because the English Rose isn't named after a throwaway Beatles song, and isn't supposed to sound like an obscure amplifier.

The reason they played Vox so much is because they were sponsored by them. They were required by contract to only play through Vox amps in concert, and when they stopped touring Vox was still sending them free amps. The UL models were just the newest iteration of what Vox was putting out then. The Beatles weren't in search of any holy grail tone. They just used what happened to be available to them at the time. But the Revolver/Pepper's era was a hell of a tone! From what I've heard the amps were hard to maintain, prone to break down often, and amp techs hated working on them. Plus I don't think they sold very well. Funny how an amp that not many people wanted at the time are now fetching 10-15K on Reverb. Pretty crazy.

No doubt, to a large degree. There are worse examples than this pedal, and I do believe Acclam came at the design from a legit angle. In other cases, I think an extant circuit was simply re marketed as a desireable or requested sound. The pedal market has largely become absurd with it's inflated prices and ridiculous claims.

There's a reason why the Vox UL 730 is rare. It sucked. The Beatles were not tech guys in any sense of the word so they mostly used what they were given. If an amp was ok enough and close by, that's what was used. You would have to be a massive Beatles fan to want this pedal. And if you are, then the artwork alone may be well worth the price. This pedal does exactly what it advertises and I'll be watching this company closely to see if they ever come up with a pedal that suits my tastes a bit more. It is very well thought out and looks to be built right.
