Oh man these SOCs are getting nuts. Soon every cheap handheld will emulate everything. Im glad i waited a while and just bought the dirt cheap R36s, thatll keep me busy until i pull the trigger on a Chinese handheld with a SOC as good as snap gen 3

I just bought a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, wanted one system to play GBA/NDS/3DS. RG Cube seems it will be even better for these systems. If onlythe dpad was on top too...

I'm buying this and the RG556. Both Handhelds will completely cover my Android Retro gaming needs. Also no the Super Nintendo didn't run at 8:7. Another note is the 1:1 screen is great for 4:3 content. This is especially if it can stretch to 8:7.

Waiting for my RG405V to arrive but I’m not sure if I would replace it with that one ? The 1:1 ratio is a deal breaker for me although the performance is amazing

I like this screen so much. I don't mind to play with borders. And I know it is possible to put some skins on the black borders

That's awesome. I've heard nothing but good things about the SP. I'll probably jump onboard and get one eventually but I'm still very happy with my original 35XX. Happy gaming!

I don't get the D-pad style, considering people have been pretty happy with their d-pads for a while now. I also think the joystick being in the top position would make more sense for a 4:3 device or a 16:9 where most 3d games are.

you already have the rg405m, 405v,and the 556 this is for the specific niche that the powkiddy rgb30 proved to be a quite popular format first of all the Gameboy and game gear and neo geo pocket uses close to 1:1 theres also pico 8 then there's also the fact that nes and the snes uses a 8:7 aspect ratio and you can do a integer over scale with this 720p 1:1 display to fill it out only cutting off a couple of pixels and integer scaling with gba games and you can fit both screens for both 3ds and ds onto this and vertical arcade games it's a one size fits all and it's the same width and size as a normal ol 3.5inch display it's just taller so it's not even that different from similar handhelds and arguably you get better ergonomics this way without adding grips cuz of the taller format

Many 2D retro console games (SNES and such) render best at 8:7. And there are so many great vertical arcade games that no retro pixelart enthousiast wants to miss. 1:1 is great for that and very versatile when you consider the whole retro thing. 4:3 is better for PS1 and later consoles, but those are only a small part of the retro thing.

Really looking forward to this model. The RGB30 has a beautiful screen, just lacks in hardware power. The stacked shoulder buttons is also a really nice touch. I wish it came in the GameCube indigo color as well. I just started buying these retro handhelds and got to say, Anbernic is an amazing company in this market and always wowing me with their new releases.

Yeah Anbernic seems to consistently put out good hardware, so I tend to stick with their devices. I don't have one with stacked shoulder buttons yet, so this model may be the first one I pick up depending on price. Thanks for leaving a comment!

I'm pretty sure that while the NES and SNES output in weird aspect ratios, they were always supposed to be played stretched to standard 4:3 letterbox, much like many 90s DOS games such as Doom output in 8:5 but are mean't to be played squished to 4:3.

I only have Anbernic Linux devices. Thinking of this to try Android. Why is there only one card slot whereas linux has two? If they update the software am I having to redo all my games on it? With Linux devices, I have all my games on card 2 so that I am never having to redo my games which are stored on card 2. Thanks!

Because most Linux devices don't have internal storage, so they rely on one SD card to have all the system (and data if only one SD card slot) and the other for the data. Whereas Android devices have an internal storage for the Android system, the SD card is for data only.

@@fdmazlum Thanks. So if there is a OS update, you pull out the SD card...do the update internally to the device, then pop the SD card back in correct? I also assume you have to put in the SD card for it to create the folder structure to hold the roms correct, then add the roms, and good to go? Appreciate the help!

@@Miggwilson you won't need to pull it out, Android will update on the internal storage and that's it, same as your smartphone if you got an Android, your files and folder structures are unaffected ;)

Trust me you don’t need that much power with 1:1 screen, to play pixel perfect gameboy or snes games this too much pricey.. I’ve rgb30 and beyond ps1 era this aspect ratio won’t helping you much.. I would %100 go to rg556 or more powerfull device because these powerfull devices are meant to play 16:9 games.. If this device hass less power and around $100 it can sell i think..

I feel like no emulator out there that would benfit from the 1:1 screen that isn't already fully playable on the powkiddy, so I honestly don't see much point in it. Heck, pico8 isn't even offically at least supported on andorid which I've already feelt is the main usecase for the powkiddy alongside gameboy. The extra power just doesn't make a lot of sense in my mind, like what, you're going to pay 150 bucks or more to play gamecube on a 3.5 inch or so screen? Sounds like a horrible experience
