My wife has the Townie, I have the cruiser. Both non-electric. THE most comfortable bikes we’ve owned and we’ve owned quite a few. We spend the winter in Flat@SS SO FLA. love em!

I have the Townie Go 5i (the 2022 version with the side-charging battery) and it's amazing. Few small quibbles, like the front fenders sometimes getting slightly misaligned and rubbing against the tire, but otherwise it's been really fun to ride. It's also very functional and easygoing up hills.

Good review. But I miss the riding experience sinds it’s a single gear. Is it good? I’m about to buy it. And do you have to peddle hard when it reached max speed?

We have 2 Jamis e bikes that have the Hyena 250 watt system that we bought a little over a year ago, which I think these do too that when they work they are great, even on hills. Unfortunately they both have problems with the red light on the battery level display flashing red and the e system shuts down and won't stay on. I am talking to Jamis and Hyena about the problem and Jamis has tried to help but after Hyena sent new controllers and crank sensors for both bikes and the shop we are dealing with replaced them we still have the same problem. Right now Jamis is doing nothing and Hyena has taken all my info and is talking to their engineers (so far they seem really helpful and willing to solve the problem and can't understand why Jamis hasn't fixed the problem. The big problem is Jamis sells a $2000 bike and does not have anyone around to work on the e system (the shop we bought them at refuses to do any warranty work on Jamis even when this started while they were under warranty) which is a joke. Well, I'm rambling and the story goes on so much longer and deeper and I don't want to bore anyone so I'll leave this as it is. Anyone else have this problem or ideas to fix it. Thanks, Mike

on all the comments it being only 250 watts: that is the most that is legally allowed for road bikes in Europe, 25 Kph and 250watts most. anything beyond that will be taken off the road or needs to be approved as a moped.

Not so fast there partner, I've been riding a 1000w bike since 2018 on the roads in Scandinavia. I live in a smaller city (pop. 38.000), I ride sensibly on the sidewalks only and I ride very slowly when people are around. I'm an older man (63) disabled and use the power of the bike to help me up hills and to get out of sticky situations. I guess it's all how one rides an ebike. What I don't understand is that there are bikers without motors and they are going way faster then the 25 kph allowed for E-bikes, I've seen them going over 50 kph. I get passed up all the time by regular bikers that don't have that 25 kph restriction. This is not right. There should be a universal speed limit for any bike on the sidewalks regardless of the motor size or not. In my opinion.

@@USARobert59 that I agree to, especially groups of middle aged men in lycra (MAMAL) who think they are doing Tour de France and own the roads... But since a lot of people lack that sensibility to match speed under 25 KPH, and enforcing a 25kph rule is harder than making it, they limit the power here (at least in the Netherlands) we also do not have hills just a lot of wind :)

what ebike would you suggest for 70 yr old woman? Hub/crank drive?
@judymchugh225

I’m a 68 year old woman, obese with bad knees. I haven’t ridden a bike in 40 years but my husband (71yr) has an ebike and wanted company riding. In august 2022 we bought the Electra Townie Go step thru 7D in the Mango color (same as the blue one in the video). It took me a few trips around the neighborhood to get reacquainted with balance, steering and stopping, but I love this bike so much it replaces the car to run local errands like pharmacy pick ups. Everything about this bike is easy and fun to use. Go to your favorite bike store and take one for a test drive. Don’t forget to buy a helmet, and checkout the cute colored wire baskets, I love it so much I’ve put 200 miles on this e-bike in 2.5 months.

Too much money for the weakest motor available on any e bike. Best thing going for it is the crank forward design.

I'm 6'0", 40 pounds overweight, old and decrepit, and have two high-step Townies - a leg-powered pre-Trek 9-speed and the last (2021) model of external-battery 7-speed Go w/ 250 watt planetary hub drive and wide-range cassette. I'm very happy with the latter's hill-assist capability. It's not zero-effort, but rather *very low* effort, which is the whole point of pedal assist, as opposed to motorcycle-throttle performance. It's neither an unstoppable mountain goat nor a land speed record contender, but for 95% of the ordinary paved inclines encountered in most towns that aren't San Francisco, it's a happy compromise. Yes, the steeper hills in my area do require use of the granny sprocket, but it's still a lot faster than walking, gives almost effortless pedaling everywhere I go, and the claimed range of 20 miles on highest-level assist (the only really useful setting, IMHO) is extremely conservative.

And BTW, God help you if the battery on your 750-watt Radwagon takes a dump and you have to pedal that beast 10 miles home. If my Townie's motor goes offline, it'll be little more than a minor inconvenience.
