Have owned , still own several Hi Powers since 1974. Pretty darn familiar with them. Recently purchased Springfield variant which had severe extraction issues common to the first issue. Returned to Springfield . The pistol was repaired and returned to me very quickly. Appears Springfield replaced everything but the frame assembly. To date, no more problems. Compared to original: No magazine disconnect Better trigger Better fixed sights Every bit as accurate Frame/Slide are forged All and all, good copy once initial extraction bug was fixed. Springfield did improve the feed ramp to accommodate modern hollow point ammo. Not a single ftf due to this issue. Great clone.

What two digits does your SA-35 begin with? Just checking to see the serial number range for when they supposedly fixed the extractor issues.

The magazine disconnect safety was the direct result of FN and Saive evolving the design to meet the demands of the French Army pistol trials. While they awaited a decision from the French the Belgian Army bought the pistol in the French trials pattern.

- the French military insisted on tne magazine safety, not John Browning; - John Browning did not copt the 1911 Colt magazine safety due to concerns about patent infringement issues

I got one around Christmas, absolutely love it. It shoots great, more accurate than either of my sigs, very comfortable in my hand. It seems like the first design of a double stack handgun is still the most comfortable out there. I wish the finish was a bit darker but overall I love it.

John Browning didn’t finish the design of the hi power. In fact his protégé Dieudonné Saive, actually completed more design features of the gun than Browning’s did himself. Browning died in 1926, while,the P.35 didn’t come to fruition until 1934 and into European military production until 1935.

He probably just added the 1911 specifications onto the browning since 1911 copyright is ended. This is why they look like brothers .

Might want to bone up on your JMB history. Browning started the Hi-Power design, for the French government but died in 1926. It was completed by Dieudonnie Saive, a FN Herstal gun designer, for release in 1935. The complaints about magazine disconnect, in the original, was a requirement the French wanted, not Browning. The French did not want a free falling magazine, when the release button was pushed too. The crazy thing is the French, wound up, not wanting the gun, and was sold to the Belgian army. The Springfield Armory SA-35 Hi-Power 9mm, is more of what Browning would have wanted, but contract obligations prevented that. Trigger isn't bad, just not what today's striker triggers are. Like anything, you shoot it enough, you will adjust to it and be fine. Great well balanced gun. Buy Mec-Gar 15 round magazines for it.

My SA35 is up in the 20 thousands if you go by serial numbers , haven’t had a chance to try it out yet , I’m wondering since it’s a more current production number if Springfield was able to address the extraction issues , maybe during the forging , guess I’ll find out soon enough

I can't speak to the issue with your specific pistol, but overall, yes - Springfield has corrected the extraction issue. I've only put a few thousand rounds through mine so far but it runs like a Swiss watch.

(Controversial History- Nick Pick Proceed with Caution) 😂 The Hi-Power really was a Dieudonne Saive creation with mechanical designs of JMB. Don’t get me wrong love Browning Weapons and his mechanical designs but his Prototype was way different from Saive double stack Hi Power. Awesome review, love the SA-35 been using it for a year as a CCW and range gun.

Just got one the other day. The no spare clip is a big down size. An the grips are too sharp an don't fit my big hands as good as 1911. So off the rip I have to spend over 100 dollars for a clip an grips that are not literal files ripping my thump apart.

I have a dilemma. Am I going to buy a commercial M9 or am I going to buy the SA35?
@douglasduda9826
@douglasduda9826 6 ай бұрын
The m9 being Beretta? It is also a good high capacity gun. IT really comes down to feel and if you like the controls. My dislike on the M9/m92 is the safety on top of the slide. Really this is my Only gripe. I have shot both the m9 and a high power clone. The higher power definitely feels more like a 1911. Again, I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. M9 is slightly cheaper though, but I have heard some say you may want to put in a few upgrade parts so maybe its a wash?

@@StryderK If money wasn’t an issue I would buy both. They would just be range guns anyways. I carry 1911s and stock pile 45 auto. And for revolvers I stock 45 Colt. So it would be a hassle to have to stock pile 9mm as well.

i feel asthough the fn hi power is going to hit a "1911 to 2011" type of modernization to keep relevance. Nowadays people arent really willing to buy a gun that doesnt have a 1913 rail and isnt optics cut out the box. And me typing this probably jus made somebody rich.
@Joe-ie8vk
@Joe-ie8vk 6 ай бұрын
I like all those things and have several pistols that have them optics cut 1913 rail glow in the dark sights all the Good modern stuff. There is just something about these classic guns they don’t have all the noise of modern guns the lines they have that modern striker fired guns don’t. I don’t know I think you buy a gun like this cause it doesn’t have all that stuff. I agree that today in the current it won’t appeal to some people but the type of gun guy who likes a 1911 or a revolver still will want something like this. I’m considering one myself.

I own a striker-fired gun with tacti-cool goodies on it... and my carry gun is a SA-35. The only modification I've done to it is to swap the very good factory sights for an even better set of XS night sights. Eventually I'll probably add a set of G10 grips that are very slightly thinner, but I may not even bother with that. The BHP design wasn't bad in 1935; today, with 15-round magazines and no magazine disconnect, it's even better.
