I hope this works for many people. I have a different perspective but if the goal is clear writing, then whatever works is what should be suggested. I taught PR courses and one of them included writing print and TV/radio news copy, using now old-fashioned journalistic style. I also taught the use of Management by Objective to create a written PR strategy. While I have loved writing since I recognized a sentence, I concluded later in life that everyone should take a course in hard news and feature news writing, as well as the MBO course (in any field). Writing for news teaches how to change complex sentences into simple, short sentences, using simple language choices that are more readily read by people of all educational backgrounds. It teaches you how to organize thoughts mentally before writing. It shows how thought organization and a writing structure facilitate speed in writing. The use of direct quotes and paraphrases are often befuddling to new writers. That is overcome in news writing. It teaches one how to glide from one brief paragraph to the next, using transition words and phrases and how to keep each paragraph restricted to one main thought rather than multiple ones. MBO teaches how one progresses from the start to the goal by asking how questions and testing the process by asking why questions in reverse. It orders logic. This process also creates speed because of the structure provided to thinking. I hope my suggestions help others. I've always wished I could persuade many more people to take these classes even if their major is not journalism.

With the democratization of commentaries and "journalism", I think I agree that something like this should be a requirement.

The kicker is that you brought in your own flushed out thoughts and organization to begin. The magic is starting from scratch and build ideas and evolve each point into supporting arguments. The hardest thing for college students is facing the blank page. Once they get going it is a maturation process of thought. See it for what it it. You get caught in the minutiae and not in its empowerment

I feel similar about it right now. Atticus is a much better writing app so far, and much less expensive, and they're constantly improving and updating their followers, making tutorials on KZbin to help people. They're trying to make it a 1-stop writing and formatting app for writers and I really appreciate how they get back with people who email them and are very nice and take feedback well. I feel like a lot more could be done to improve this app, though it does have a unique idea behind it, of dividing the writing process into stages for people to be able to be intentional about the stage of writing they're in.

I'm a little slow so I have to ask what anyone needs the app for? In the video, you did the structure breakdown for the outline, rewrote your sentences, etc. Why do you need an app if you already know how to do that? It didn't seem to be less time-consuming or more efficient using the app. Maybe I missed something.
@patrick99692 жыл бұрын
it makes writing a lot more efficient. Instead of having to delete sentences, copy and paste stuff like that in a regular typing program, you can use the essay app to drag sentences around, reorder them and also rewrite different versions of sentences. The app overall just makes writing efficient

Sean, do you have suggestions for my 15-year-old, who is a great writer, but who needs guidance regarding how to move towards monetizing her ability? I heard you mention that you have written a book on writing advertising copy. Is that right?
@EmilynWood2 жыл бұрын
I recommend the writing curriculum One Year Adventure Novel for the writing community and feedback from peers that she would get, along with opportunities to go to the Summer Workshops for young writers where published authors come and speak and there are in-person critique groups. Also, K M Weiland's writing website is a great resource for all writers.

@clarkdavison40 Жыл бұрын
No, I think he does mean "thought processing" because one of Petersons tenets is that "writing is thinking" and the reason for creating the writing app, which is to teach people who don't know "how to write" because they "get everything wrong". Maybe @solomonmiron7630 was too concise in his reply to your comment. @@markskarzynski2646
