From Canon : The fluro pink is not UV protected and it will fade relatively quickly. This printer was designed for ephemera shop posters etc therefore it is not suitable for pro photography or Fine Art prints.

but if you print on canvas and coat with a UV coating then that would fix that issue (for canvas)

Hello, I found your comparison of the Canon imagePROGRAF Pro-4100 and the Canon imagePROGRAF GP-4000 from a "photo printing" perspective very helpful. I live in Japan and recently requested a demo print online from Canon. I am a photographer and use a special matte paper "Fresco Giclee" (made by Tokuyama Corporation). For this reason, I was not able to close the profile conditions in this short demo. However, the results were fantastic with the GP-4000, the colors were vibrant and alive. On glossy paper, the GP-4000 reproduces colors well, as your review suggests, and I think the special inkset works well, while the Pro-4100, perhaps because of the Chroma Optimizer, gives better contrast and results. The gradation was smooth and excellent due to the wide variety of inks. For me, the smoothness felt too much. Thanks for pushing me to buy the GP-4000! Great review. Thank you again.

My printer arrives tomorrow, this will compliment my Epson 9900 that I have been running for along time. This is specific for my graphic comic style posters.

Hi Tim, I really enjoyed your video and you created one of the few videos that showed the main features of the GP4000, compared to Pro-4100, but I would like to make a suggestion as well as ask for some advice. I stopped by your video to compare it to the Pro-4100 as I have been unable to purchase the latter one due to the current supply chain issues, so a company offered me to buy the GP-400 instead. Consequently, the main purpose for watching your video was to compare both models; in that sense, I would kindly suggest to include the Prograf 4100 on your key words or your video title to make it easy to find for other people who might also be suck with that. In any case, the reasons why I want to buy the Prograf 4100 is to be able to create prints of portraits, wildlife nature and landscapes; no plans to make graphic signage. I felt the Prograf 4100 was the best option, however, as I am unable to find it I am considering getting the GP4000. Would you recommend it or would you think it would be a "perfect" substitute for the purposes of photography printing? Thank you very much and sorry for the long comment!

Hi Derek, the GP-4100 is a great option for photo printing. With this in mind it does depend on the subject matter. We have a few customers with the GP-4000 who use it as their main printer for art reproduction and also for Photography printing with great results. Portraits would look great on the either printer, however if you have a those bright Fluorescence colour the GP-4000 will give you that point of difference in your prints. If you wanted to talk more about the options please let me know and drop me an email at tim@fotospeed.com, Tim

Thanks for the summary. You showed ways the GP4000 outperformed the 4100, curious if/what are cases of the opposite? IE are there things that the 4100 does better than the gp4000?

That is a good question, I think i'd have to say the Black and White prints are better on the 4100. The GP Series are designed for colour. Tim
