This Designer loves his job. So wonderful to see

He really does and it was his dream to design a new generation of Caterham. This really comes across when we spoke to him. Glad it came across in the video too. Thanks for watching!

Mid engined style EV cars with rear seats… now this is something I can get excited about. If the price is around £80k I can see these being a very successful car 👏🙌 excellent video guys

I like the 2 + 1 seating arrangement, I've been wondering for awhile why that isn’t more common.
@sportzntouring Жыл бұрын
I think it's cool. Many will ask, if you have one seat why not two... But I think it will make sense once people actually try it.

This car has the timeless beauty of the 60s, reminding me of compact sports cars like the ATS. The middle rear seat is a masterstroke. It means you can take one extra passanger to the pub!

What an absolutely glorious thing. My new favourite dream car. I really hope they make it, even if I have no hope of affording one. Caterham deserve to do well.

Love it. Would be nuts if they had an ICE version too tho 🤣 Tho I understand so much engineering went into it for battery tech optimization

I know what you mean! From what I understand, it would make the shape hard to achieve within modern regulations. Still, a stunning car.

It's a great driver's car, especially the S (my favourite) but it doesn't have the design flair in my opinion. But, likely an alternative from a driver's point of view.

I hear you! It seems quite likely to make production! If it does, I've got a good feeling about it.

i like it, seeing hints of Aston Martin Valhalla, emira but the performance is a little tame by EV standards. range will be abysmal though, my wife's 50kw e208 only manages about 115 miles motorway miles lol

It is nice, huh?! Going for sports-car acceleration figures (rather than "EV" acceleration figures) is a conscious trade-off, to go for driving dynamics over straight-line acceleration. Otherwise, it would be closer to 2000kg+ and would probably not be able to sit as low. It's a different audience... As the saying goes - straight lines are for fast cars, corners are for fast drivers 😉 - So, this is a car designed for fast drivers 😋 (And people like me who'd like to think they are in that category, even if we're not lol 😂 ) -Ant

Without the noise, it’s just a laptop.
@sportzntouring Жыл бұрын
A very good looking laptop! Unfortunately, we're going to have to get used to it because after 2030, no more cars that make a noise will be sold (in the UK at least).
Hydrogen is allowed after 2035, as long as it's produced in a carbon free way (green Hydrogen) as far as I'm aware. The problem is we've still not got a practical way to store enough of it in a persistent way in a small enough space for a decent range in sports cars. Engineering Explained has some great videos on the problems associated with making hydrogen work for sports cars. Here's one out this week (watch to the end): kzbin.info/www/bejne/enivZppvZrCqgqM Synthetic e-fuels are more practical if everyone could use it, but we need more clean energy and for its cost to come down. Unfortunately, that doesn't solve the localised air quality issues in the way that Hydrogen does. It sounds like the UK might be banning e-fuels but that could change. The EU is not banning e-fuels after 2030. Individual EU countries may still choose to ban it of course since EU sets the minimum standards for it's member countries (so, by not banning it, individual countries can choose to allow it or ban it).

You've seen it in Monte Carlo?
@braisedtoast9002 Жыл бұрын
Ok but 0-60 in 4.5 for a "lightweight" sports car is something that's been around forever. The ev aspect doesn't sell this for me. If it's not doing 0-60 in 2 seconds it had better make cool noises instead. For 80k I'd still rather ls swap a brand new miata.
@sportzntouring Жыл бұрын
That's all true, however, what hasn't been done is a (relatively) lightweight EV Sportscar... Let alone one this beautiful. And, we have to start somewhere. I'm glad they've bucked the trend... As the saying goes, straight lines are for fast cars, corners are for fast drivers... This car is for the latter IMHO
@braisedtoast9002 Жыл бұрын
@@sportzntouring I am pretty tired of the bloat. A lightweight ev is nice to see.
@PeterMoyse-i9o Жыл бұрын
So beautifully stunning. Shame it won't be available as a ICE manual. Just another EV 😒
@sportzntouring Жыл бұрын
It is stunning, but not what I'd call "just another EV"... I'd say it's something different... And, given the 2030 ban on new ICE vehicles, only 5 years from the expected release of this car, a necessary step so Caterham isn't left behind. Just my take.
