First look: Gorilla 200 ft aluminum hose reel

I couldn't find many videos before I bought this, so wanted to help others out. In my opinion, the price premium over standard hose reels are for better quality connectors, a longer warranty, smooth reeling mechanism, and aluminum light weight construction. Any references in video to "steel" was a mistake.

the side wheels of the spool aren't fastened to the spool by anything but plastic connections. The side wheel popped off and wasn't able to spit because it would rub against the handle of the cart. For a "premium" hose reel they need to up the sturdiness of the built. I was so excited to find this option which I felt would last a long time. Thankfully it broke just shy of three months so I got my money back at Home Depot. I'd suggest the Giraffe Tools Garden Hose Reel Cart over this for a truly heavier duty and sturdy option.

Thanks for the review, and tip to grease the wheels during assembly first. I was looking at this one, and the one step down (175ft w/o the hose leader and tray). Looking at a $20 price difference, do you think this larger 200ft reel is worth the added cost?

To be honest, I think the 175 ft one will be fine if you do not need the hose leader and tray. Looking at the pictures, the handle appears to be in a different location and the overall unit height *appears* to be lower, so that may be a problem for taller folks.

I just purchased one from Home depot and I was missing the tray and the hose guild.

Garage floors are almost NEVER level. Also, if you are assembling something like this, make sure you don't tighten everything down until you have it assembled. There is almost always a little bit of play in the connections and if you tighten each of them down as you are assembling, the may not be in the correct position. Loosen up your connections with it sitting on a flat surface and it will probably settle into the proper shape, then tighten them down again.

The hose connection for the leader hose (the one that comes with the unit and connects to the house) turns with the reel when I wind up the hose onto the reel, it's a bad problem because the leader hose gets twisted around and around. Suggestions?

I checked mine and it does not have that problem. If I had to guess, it appears your hose connection has seized together. I would try spraying some grease on it and see if that helps.

Do you know if this comes in a wall mount model. Looks a bit flimsy. $140? I thought you said $40 at first. For $140 it’s too much “Plastic Fantastic “ and flimsy. I’ll keep looking.

To my knowledge, all three variations of this product are all placed on the ground. I did not see any way of wall mounting it unfortunately. I am sure with some hacking, it can be done though lol

Helpful review - good to see how the guide is really more of a hassle than a help. Those heavy steel carts work great and are really sturdy, but they all rust and are crappy chinese junk steel. Light is nice for moving around, but sucks for stability.

The guide doesn't really do anything. It's a manual operation--crank with one hand, and move the guide to spool with the other. It also makes unwinding very difficult. Disappointing considering the price. Will be returning to Home Depot.

@@tonyirrera7067 No brainer? Your reply kindda requires a smidge of a brain..... I was not talking about Ebay.... I was talking about Eley. Eley manufactures a top of the line water hose reel system. Furthermore... I get it that people might have to save their cabbage for the best stuff. Have a great day.

I bought this stupid thing and a 100ft hose but you can't connect the large female connector because the plastic wheel gets in the way. Really Bad Design.
