First Look - Hövding Airbag

Heard of Hövding? Nope? They're a Swedish company that have created an airbag for urban cycling the releases upon crashing. We found a crash test dummy to try it out

I've seen people riding with these in Malmo last year. It looks really natural, and in scandinavian weather makes a lot of sense, like a mild weather casual accessorie.

That's impressive - triggered well before he got near the ground. I wonder if it triggered based on him putting his foot down in this case.

From what Ben was saying, to trick it into triggering, Tony had to lurch his shoulder in an exaggerated fashion to simulate that jolt from being hit by a car for example. Having said that, there are so many different things that go into their algorithm that it is possible the hitting of the foot at that force could have had an affect

Is it practical in late spring/ summer though? Things could get a bit warm with something wrapped around your neck.

For short commutes around town how long would you actually have it around your neck? This definitely isn't designed for anyone that lives far enough away that wearing lycra would be beneficial

Good point but the same could apply to a rigid helmet if it brakes. If it deploys go extra carefully?

begin filming indoors for better audio, use tripod, rehearse script better, get someone young to crash so they actually go hard

except if you actually drive directly somewhat upright into the side of a SUV the sensor wont actually fire, resulting in milkshake brain.. just wear traditional helmets.
