Katalox is also known as "Mexican Ebony"... It's a wood that comes from South America that's VERY hard and dense. It's every bit as hard and resonant as traditional darker ebony.

I played the regular d15m at guitar center and MAN its so punchy and a good warm, usually I don't like warm acoustics bc they lack punch to me but this one was a perfect warm really dynamic the only thing id like is it could be slightly louder, its not very loud but it is dynamic so it goes quiet to loud really easily depending on your strumming. Very chill guitar, I really want one. Id use it for more chords and rhythmic stuff

I love my 000-15SM Martin.. phenomenal sound, like someone is running her through an eq. The bass is so big. It’s a 12 fret, so sometimes I also want a 14 fret, a bit narrower board would be ok too… hence I’m looking at these. I’m also thinking about a J-45 or L-2, but these Martins are more than 1K less!! They just have to be considered. Thanks

you guys sound great and the playing is terrific too, while i don't have anything against relics ! However, when you start from scratch( buying a regular, virgin model) and put all the dings, wear, patina, distress on a guitar yourself, it will obviously not only means more to the player but can have a powerful emotional recall tool rightly available by the scars in hand. I bought one new, Martin D-15M and played it every single day for a 2.5 years straight and it relics nicely on it's own, either that or i got a bad one , lol, the satin finish has already worn away in 4 spots . I love it tho, it plays like an electric with ZERO BUZZ, the Magic of Martin guitars, can't beat em !

I think the relicing on Ibanez artwood guitars looks better. These look like the workers just rubbed some sand paper here and there. And why would there be wear in the middle of the headstock?
@flannelmeister

Tanglewood did this "reliced" look 1st with their crossroads series- and from £99 - not over a grand. For a moment at the start of the video I thought you might be testing some genuinely affordable guitars for a change.

They look really nice. Sound good too. Unfortunately Godin's acoustic brands (Simon and Patrick, Seagull, Norman, Art and Lutherie) have ruined other brands for me. I could buy an Art and Lutherie rustic dreadnought for $400ish CAD, play it very roughly for a week, and I'd have something that looks incredibly similar, is set up well, and sounds excellent!

I have to agree with you. Personally, I would not mind spending 1600 instead of 1500 if I love the guitar. But at that price point it's a guitar to cherish and that means it should have a nice hard shell case. And it's great if it comes with the guitar. A little logo just completes the package.

That is weird--especially given the rest of the 15 series (same guitar w/o relic finish) comes with a beautiful hard case.
@endocry

The Abster I guess they must be charging for the relic’d look. I personally think the whole concept of relic’d guitars is retarded, but I also think people should buy whatever the want. So meh. I have a 000-15SM and it’s utterly amazing. And as you said, comes with a fantastic hard shell case.
@whatsstefon

It's the Streetmaster series. For gigging musicians. Hence the gig bag. This isn't meant to sit in the studio. However, plenty of their other models come with a case.
@marcwilson9389
@marcwilson9389 5 жыл бұрын
Stefano Musica it’s weird that they call them ‘gig bags’, cos if you did any level of gigging they would be destroyed immediately. Imagine putting that in a trailer with a stage worth of gear...in a gig bag...

hey guys, I have a question. I am predominantly a pianist and a double bass & cello player, and a bass guitar player. started playing normal electric guitar not too long ago, practicing like 6 hours a day - I the free time that I've got haha (so fun :). playing a squier vintage modified strat through a fender champion 40 watt anywho, can someone please explain to me why so many guitarists tune their guitars a half tone down? I mean, I know that some artists are used to play like this due to some brass instrument tunings and such, and I've heard that if you tune a half step down with some thick strings you can get some nice bends and such, and that some do it for some singer's convenience (easier to sing in Eb for some people) but in general I just don't get it. so many players do it that don't have a background in playing brass instruments / playing with brass instrument players and are not playing with singers yet they do it anyway, especially in the 80s-90s but still today in videos like this one (this one specifically no but in must of the vids on this channel yes...) people do it anyway. is it something about the tone? as a cello player for over 30 years I am extremely sensitive in differences in tone but other than a bit of a "fatter" sound I don't hear much of a difference, and in general other than that slightly "fatter" sound and the obvious fact that you can play the low Eb note, I just don't see the point playing in that tuning for most circumstances. may someone please shed light on this for me? thanks in advance :)
@johna1160
@johna1160 6 жыл бұрын
In my experience, it's usually devotees of Jimi and Stevie Ray who tune down a half step. And, I imagine there were players before them who did the same. May have originated to slacken strings for easier bending pre Slinky era.

To me these don’t look ‘road worn’ or relic’d .. it’s different than what’s happening with electrics these days; I don’t think the intention is to have them look like they have been a 30 year workhorse.. regardless of the name. Most folks don’t beat up on a 1.5K acoustic.. maybe some pick wear if there’s no guard. I guess “distressed” is sort of descriptive.. it’s kind of a “stone wash” for wood. However you want to call it, I think it’s a handsome finish… just different than a straight matte or sunburst
