Winwing are now taking orders for their highly anticipated EFIS unit to go alongside their A320 FCU which was released a few months ago. In this video we take a look at the setup and see how well it works and feels, as well as some areas which I feel could be done a lot better.

I love my FCU and I ordered the EFIS as soon as I could, the website seemed log jammed last night (EST) when it went live for ordering. I too like the payment due at shipping time. Can't wait, I didn't have any issues with the firmware or getting it to work. I do think I will save some money by just getting the left side, plus I'm limited on desk space.

As you have a first look of a product that is not officially released yet I don't think it is strange that the product did not have documentation yet. Which is released right now as you stated on WinWing's website and quite comprehensive. As for the other documentation of the FCU at release it was already quite comprehensive and very clear on how to mount everything including the bracket. Pro tip, mount the brackets to on the side of the unit and it will no longer be top heavy and tip forward. The software has come quite a way since original release and WinWing, to their credit, are constantly updating both the software and the Firmware improving an already good product. Especially at this amazing price range. Just my 2 pennies.

Gavin, I think they mean only winwing devices need to be disconnected first. I removed no USB devices for my FCU and it worked off the bat, no settings to change at all. Plug and play

There are two brackets that fix the FCU and the EFIS together.

I didn't find setting up the WinWIng FCU hard at all. All manuals on website if you need them and the SimApp software is working out of the box with Fenix now. I do have to make sure SimApp is running before starting a flight in MSFS but I just start it up and run through the controls including a 3 second LCD check on test tab and its always been ready. Compared to the TM Airbus Quadrant it was a piece of cake. A small inconvenience for the price.

Set the option within SimApp to autostart on boot up. I have never had to check status within it, pedals just work

I dealt with the website issues last night for 2 hours but got my order for each panel in with the global shipping site. Had to do 2 orders because of the site issues... Looking forward to mine arriving, I will have to say winwing is great value for the money, Ive practically built a a glareshield for about 300 dollars when just the miniFCU would have cost the same...

The wedges need mounting on the ends for a desk mounted solution. You’ve got them on the back which is better suited to the table clamp. Never had an issue with the software, it’s pretty much plug and play for me. I never bother unplugging all of my USB devices either. It just works. Mobiflight adds lots of options for other aircraft too. Best bang for buck controllers imo. Thanks for the review.

FYI A couple of bits that may help with this, there is some documentation with the new FCUs but it's in PDF format on the winwing website but it hasn't incorporated the EFIS modules yet. The brackets should go on the back if you plan to mount them on a frame and at the side (you only need two) if you will be sitting it on a desk. Also it seems that the removal of USB devices are only other winwing products or devices that simapp pro can see (at least that was mu experience

@@Easyjetsimpilot That's strange, when I go on their site it is in the downloads section (not on the product page). I can't post links here but if you visit the site and click on "downloads centre" and then "more resources" it's called "FCU Unit 1" V2 was published on the 2nd July. To be clear though, the manual is only on how to physically put it together - not using it with the software. Overall very poor documentation but there is a little bit once you really dig about...which let's face it isn't really a great situation Loving the videos by the way, learned so much from you 👍

tbh, from what i see in the community is that a huge part of flight simmers are DIY geeks, so i think instructions are not crazy important, as i own also the FCU from WinWing i never faced any hustle with it at all from day one, as the community also created full template for Mobiflight and i am using it and i t works flawlessly with my OVH panel also.

Thanks for doing a good review of the new efis panels. Good camerawork so I could see the panels well. I’ve preordered like a lot of people will..and why not at that price. You can mount the brackets on the very outside edges of the efis panels rather than the back. That’s how my FFU is set up and it doesn’t lean forward. Thanks again.

you can mount the stands at the side of the efis. same as they were mounted on the fcu before. so config would be efis left mounted left, fcu 2 stands mounted on the back, efis right mounted right side.

I just got my first joystick and its the Winwing AIrline and man i ve been missing out. Ive been flying airbus and helis with a yoke and the stick feels so much better

I got my FCU unit later, and with a later version of the software than yours. For me it was straight forward. And I got instructions. Yes, to unplug all USB devices to update firmware is very annoying I can’t wait to put my hands on the EFIS I purchased today

I think you want the outer most brackets attached to the left and right side of the EFIS units. According to the docs, they are up on their site, that looks like the way to assemble them. I would assume this will cure the tipping forward you are getting.

I always challenge myself to try and assemble anything (think IKEA units) without looking at the instructions. Even though WinWing have put their instructions online now, I'll still put the brackets on back-to-front 😊

I think, again, that you're not being fair with Winwing. You don't need to unplug any other USB device in order to update the firmware, I always update like that. The reason they say that, is the same for any other product but others just don't say it. It's common sense that it's always safer to eliminate variables when making updates so for me Winwing is in fact on the right side on this case. About the lack of documentation, I think the manual refers everything, right? If it does I'm on favor on not having printed instructions.

I have double sided 3M automobile adhesive on the feet of the unit and its securely and firmly.

you can't just sit it on a desk anyway without using the double sided sticky pads because you won't be able to push the knobs in without it going backwards. needs a solid mount or put the sticky pads on the brackets.

Not a good review. It's not rocket science to figure out where the brackets go and how to mount it. I would have liked to see more of the unit in operation.

Pre-ordered left and right as soon as it came out. There are instructions on their website as to assembly of the FCU. I assume the EFIS instructions will be available for general release.

I made a bracket on the wall and screwed the bracket of the fcu on it to keep the 71° real aircraft angle. On the wall its solid

Gav the minicockpit efis is a rip-off at $169, ordered the winwing myself, once you figure the tax and import duty for minicockpit in then it is over $200 not sure of the UK price yet.

I've not tested it with A300/A310, but the Headwind A330 Is also FBW systems so might work on his too.

I think it’s a matter of time until you can use it with SpadNext, so you can use it with any plane that way.

Not just Airbus aircraft, if you use Mobiflight there are loads of profiles you can download for just about any aircraft to configure the fcu and the efis no doubt will be added to the profiles as well.

Not naturally. But mobiflight etc would be able to make it work with any aircraft. The Headwind A330 however, uses the same setup as the A32NX, so this could work with that A330.

I just can not understand why they have such complicated software AND why did they not make a bracket to fit Logitech or Honeycomb units.. I think you are spot on, wish Win Wing would sort this out as its fantastic equipment...Gavin could you do a video on how to to use this unit properly as I don't know how to use all the buttons on it on a flight.? I am not sure if I would order it at £170 as its not a unit I use a lot in the Fenix A32O but thats because I don't know how to use the NDB's etc However if they sold the pilots ONLY unit for say £90 I would pre order now I see no point in the co pilots unit never being used by me...
