I Kickstarted Ares Expedition and I was a little bummed at first, but I figured I’ll get my copy soon enough. Besides, I’ve got enough games waiting to get to the table cause of the pandemic, waiting a little longer for Ares Expedition isn’t too big a deal. Great vid Ryan! I’m glad you showed off the TM big box and shared your thoughts, both good & bad. I agree that the “expansions” bottom tray does seem like a half assed after thought. But at least everything fits in one box. 👍. Oh, and the 3D tiles are damn pretty.

I passed on the domes, which I regret for a while now.. :( but I got the super expensive shiny metal cubes packed seperately in tiny plastic baggies.. :P

Turmoil was actually the fifth expansion to Terraforming Mars, Venus Next & Hellas/Elysium were released in 2017, in 2018 Prelude & Colonies, and so Turmoil was the fifth in 2019.. :)

You're right! i wildly miscounted. You'll notice i didn't even have Prelude on the table, despite owning it.

I love this, your laughs of joy make this absolutely the best unboxing I've ever seen and I haven't even finished watching it yet. Regarding shipping: If I am getting the deluxe version that isn't available in retail? No issue, the extra stuff takes time to manufacture and ship. If the company (like Stronghold did here) manages to horribly miscommunicate the entire situation, then I'm pissed because they can't communicate and not because they shipped some stuff to Target. Regarding Etsy 3D prints: Aesthetics are very personal, but there's probably only going to be one version of the official 3D stuff and limitless versions of unofficial 3D stuff. I might be able to find something that's more pleasing to me on the third party market, but it is likely to be more expensive since it's a smaller print run (or I'd have to print it myself, which is extra work and might fail along the way).

If Target had received the same version of Ares Expedition, I would have been mad but since the retail version doesn’t have recessed boards so I think the KS version is worth the wait.

Canadians, please do not complain about thirld world shipping, if you don't know how things are in Brazil. When a package from abroad makes it to its final destination, which happens *very rarely*, then you have to deal with customs. Recently I received a replacement for Barrage, arriving from Italy. It was literally two white meeples, size 1/2 inch each, and they wanted to charge 60 euros for custom duties.

OH MY GOD. We have similar customs issues, but not quite so severe. But i have turned packages away at the door because the publisher did not check the box saying “we’ll cover customs charges.” That’s why you haven’t seen Unfair on the channel, for example.

I don't back KS campaigns for retail versions, I back it for deluxe versions. So as long as that deluxe version isn't available, I'm fairly okay with it. It's a bit annoying, but nothing to get mad over. So many other, far more important things to be mad about in this world.

I'm new to this board game so I'm a bit behind. Would like to purchase the "big Box" but it seems kick starter no longer offers it. I can get the big box from other retailers, but I haven't found anyone who carries the city domes nor the first player rover. Anyone know where I can still get these?

i saw someone on Facebook recently report that he'd bought the box with the 3D tiles, but it comes without the expansions - you have to buy those separately and fill the box up. i would use boardgameatlas.com, which lets you punch in a game and find it at various stores depending on your country. If you can't get the rover any more, there are lots of different, free Mars rover models on Thingiverse that you can either print yourself if you have a printer, or send to a print shop to print for you!

I am not angry about the target deal. I am angry about their explanation either they are not explaining it properly or they are thinking we are idiots. It was initially schedules to come out September... we get an update early on saying they are ahead of schedule and will be shipping in June.. people saw it in target and honestly I was ok with that. Then they come out with an update saying that because of covid and shipping they couldn't get it to us in time and they had a contract with target to start selling June 25th. Timelines don't make sense. How come they are saying we are ahead of schedule and then come and blame covid for being late. Are we ahead or late?

Sounds like they had all kinds of trouble with shipping this time out. And you can imagine it's easier to get a few skids into the hands of distributors, vs getting separate copies shipped out to individual addresses.

@@NightsAroundaTable It feels structurally identical to Race, but strategically it’s a whole different story bc 1. You got more tactics v. Strategy 2. Card-play is super forgiving- requirement are looser and your tableau ends up with twice as many cards as race. 3. Not tracking as many objectives/resource production as TF Mars let’s you focus on other players

I would only be pissed (mildly annoyed really) if I bought a Kickstarter that claimed it would not be reprinted or go to retail and then it did. I don’t like to feel like I have to panic-purchase something to avoid missing my chance or pay inflated secondhand market prices. That said, I’ve only ever backed two Kickstarters in my life, and I swear if Winter Kingdom ever goes to retail.. well I’d be happy because people should be able to buy and play it!

Totally understand. i just sunk an absolutely absurd amount of money into the recent Kickstarter campaign. Keep your eye on the secondary market. For the money i paid, it would actually be cheaper to buy a low-end 3D printer and make all the tiles yourself! There are free-to-print files on Thingiverse.

GameTrayz DID NOT make those trays. They are horribly designed. GameTrayz would've had proper places for each component and far more thought out. This was all Stronghold.

They are well designed up top, but they get worse as you dig through the box. Kind of like a board game storage mullet.

The opportunity to "introduce" your pumped up version of the game to other people will still be there... some time later... but it will be there.
