First Look: Wacom Cintiq 24HD touch hands-on review

Creative software might not have made the most of touch functionality yet, but when it does catch up, the Cintiq will most definitely be ready for it! There's a bit more info on multitouch compatibility on Wacom's site. Thanks!

Had a great month, so I ordered this beast. Wanted to mention I was wrong on price. In the us, $3700 includes tax and shipping. That's at least $500 difference in total cost. Next version still needs greater pixel density, but I look forward to the new features and brighter color.

Hi Fagottron, Unless the music production software can detect different levels of pressure using the pen input, I wouldn’t see the need for it. The Wacom Cintiq is designed for digital visual design work that can take advantage of the software’s capabilities of detecting the different levels of pressure whilst working directly on the screen. It may help your workflow to use a tablet as it's ergonomically designed for comfort, though. Hope that helps!

Yeah! I'm thinking about this for after effects and premiere....... as well as photoshop of course, but having a touch screen right in your face + windows 8 stuff might make my work go by a lot faster

This is something I've thought about for years and the reason I never got a Cintiq, but over the years I realize that the intuos is way to limiting to hand movements. It can only really do about 90 degree movements when the cintiq you can rotate it like you would a piece of paper or canvas to get the right stroke anywhere. You can rotate the screen when you work with an intuos, but you can't rotate an intuos where your hand is. I plan to get a Cintiq soon after years with many Intuos models.

I've had the same two wacom tablets for almost seven years now and they both work fine. And as much as I love using traditional medium I can't say the industry likes them as much these days. But hey, everyone has different techniques and ways of doing things mate.

I was getting worried that I wouldn't be able to set my wrist down while drawing, but you can toggle it quite easily thank god. So touch is a welcome addition but once I've spent a thousand+ on this thing I don't know if I'll have cash left over to upgrade my system to accommodate using a second display with ease without hindering the RAM, CPU, graphics card etc.

Excited about the brightness, color depth, and multitouch. Disappointed about the "hd" resolution. It's not a tv. The 12wx is closer to hd than any of them for how the product is actually used. That's a deal breaker for me at $4k after tax/shipping. It still looks good, just not great. Thanks for the honest and helpful review!

@CamberGreber Then put a screen guard on it. Random Fact: Artists who draw on the Cintiq sometimes use gloves to prevent smudging on their screen.

I've been wanting to buy a Wacom tablet for a while, I've seen a couple deals and stumbled upon these so-called demo units. They are considerably cheaper than a completely new tablet. According to your description you should've gotten a demo unit. Here's a question: Is a demo unit going to function exactly like a regular unit? Will I be able to change the tablet settings?

Question, I'm used to my Intuos4 Large, I think if i get a Cintiq i wont like the fact that my hand and stylus will be in the way of what I'm drawing. With the intuos i can be very precise because my hand is not in the way. Any thoughts on this?
