That “I would take more fuel’ comment was not put in the movie at the right spot. He did not say that, until after Apollo 11 mission. Due to them having to run the engines longer than anticipated trying to find a landing spot on the moon. They only landed that LM on the moon with 50 seconds to spare in their margin of fuel for landing. If they did not shut it off in time, they would not have enough fuel to take off and rendezvous with a command module. Bad writing on the part of the script writers. His comment in the movie at that point does not make any sense. Because there is no reference before that point about fuel.
