I think one thing a foreigner can do when he knows the family meeting has been arranged is talk to the Filipina and let her know his expectations as well. I'm sure most foreigners already know that her family will more than likely not be as well off as he is, and every peso counts for them, maybe he should tell her to let them know he doesn't want a party, he doesn't want them to spend money on things just for him, they don't need to borrow money from neighbors to buy things just for him, that he doesn't want them to make a big deal of it, he's coming to meet them, and they should just be themselves. Also foreigners should know by now English is not your primary language and shouldn't expect them to be fluent in it, and they don't need to be, short simple sentence is all that's needed to convey their message, as long as they communicate their meaning and both understand, then they are communicating just fine. I don't think many foreigners are going to look down on them for not being able to speak a language they don't speak, most probably won't even correct them for saying something wrong, unless asked what is the right way, and they'll teach them in a polite way. The best way to learn English is to actually speak it with an English speaking person, maybe she and her family should see it as a blessing to have a native English speaker to learn from in a more private way so they don't need to feel embarrassed about saying something wrong. One thing to keep in mind, if they say something and the foreigner laughs, it's NOT because of what or how they say something, it's because in the U.S. we have lots of innuendos and what they said in his mind was a funny innuendo, and that's what he's laughing at, NOT them.

You make a very good point in telling them not to take loans etc to welcome you. I have been talking to my girl now for about 6 months and I see how common it is for the family to take loans for everything. Recently there was a baptism in the family and the brother took a loan to buy a pig, to feed about 50 people ( he didnt even know how many would show up) crazy. Now he will be paying for at least a year to fulfil that loan with a huge interest. They have no concept of interest charges.

I met her family at the airport in Tacloban. Now they were very sweet, and we didn't have a party, but to excuse them, they couldn't afford it, but even more of an issue, a typhoon hit the afternoon I arrived that morning. They were so kind, all of them were. I love them already, but I started talking to her 3 years ago. And her Dad was very awesome, did not ask me much except am I comfortable there

I enjoyed that. First time I was in Philippines, her mom and dad and brother went to the airport to meet me. They were so excited. The next day was my birthday, and after 8 hour bus ride to their house, I had a surprise birthday party and cake. Will never forget their kindness. Enjoy your coffee my friend.

My very first time with my 1st Filipina, she wanted me to meet her parents and family. I accepted, and I had a wonderful time with her brothers, sister, her child, and Nanay and Tatay.. Yeah, we had some Red Horse together, but I fell in love with her family at first site... they were so nice to me.

I watch a few vlogs about the Philippines, and you covered a few new things about your culture that I have not heard yet... Thank you! 🙂 I am coming the 3rd week of May for 3 weeks to be with my Filapina wife, and to finally be able to meet her family in person for the first time since the pandemic. She is so excited, and so am I! I treat her like my queen, and plan to show that in as many ways as I can around her family because she is an amazing woman, so loving and sweet to me. I have never known this kind of love before, instead I was disrespected, hurt, and cheated on in my past relationships in the US. Your personality is a lot like her's, and I can tell you would make an amazing wife to the "right" man that will love and respect you, and your daughter. I hope you meet that man soon! You deserve it, and you will make him one of the happiest men on Earth! 😉♥️

My Filipina,her sister,and nieces husband met me at Clark airport. I was kind of nervous but within less than a minute my nervousness was gone, they welcomed me with open arms. Of course I hugged Kathy first, then her sister hugged me took me to the small apartment Kathy and I had rented she unpacked my bags and put my clothes away, the whole family made me feel like family, wouldn't let me do anything just wanted me to sit around however I did get to feed the pet rabbits every morning. Kathy even washed some of my clothes while I was there,some clothes I took I never wore. She did keep 3 of my tshirts,my deodorant,and body spray to spray on my shirts so she could smell my smell, has one of my shirts on her pillow that I gave her. It was an amazing experience and now the job of getting Kathy to the US. Even tho I've been to the Philippines now I'll still be watching your videos, and I did have her younger nephew's girlfriend do the blessing to me and I was called Kuyo Patrick several times

Good morning Petite ! Great overture of meeting families , however , all circumstances & families are different in outlooks I have witnessed !!! Personally I have never been thru this scenario but a great buddy of mine had !! His then gf (from Batangas) , after 12 months of courting , invited him to meet her parents & family ! Unexpectedly it was a " royal reception" indeed with lecheon , beer , whiskey & foods !!! Being the gentleman that he is , he kept himself " tidy" & coherent & observant !!!!! He was very overwhelmed & so grateful with the hospitality extended with seemingly and ever increasing extended family & friends arriving ! Next day his gf gave him a bill !!!!!!!!!! 12800 peso & the pig farmer came to his hotel""" demanding"""" 2000pesos for lecheon!!!!! haaaaaaaa!!!!!!! Great introduction & assumption of things to come ??!!! Wisely , he decided then & there to remain single again !!!!!!!

I came to the Philippines in April of 2017, over the Easter Holiday. When I met my future Mother in Law, neither of us spoke the other's language but we smiled to one another. My future bride was in charge of organizing the festivities so she placed me in the charge of three other women (a test to be sure). Her youngest sister, her oldest cousin and her oldest niece that was present. They asked me about food and drink every twenty minutes. The children in the compound were polite but shy and distant. The elders of the compound were direct and curious. How did you met, what is your work, are you American, no really, are you American, you are so polite, why do you look like Filipino? I felt under the microscope in terms of, what was my character, did I care about my future bride or was I a foreign scammer. I remember, I could not see in the dim light of the CR to shave, so I went outside into the sun and three of my future nieces were washing clothes. One asked, why is he shaving outside? One responds, I do not know, the third simply said, because he is American, they do that ...really? Yes, all the time ...I laughed out loud because I wondered just how many Americans had this fourteen year old met so far. The brothers started treating me with open arms once they saw me and their sister interact with each other. Only the Step Dad had reservations but today, his smile when I return for a visit is one of the highlights of my trip. After my wife passed away, I returned for what I thought would be my last visit, but the family came together and told me how they appreciated the manner in which I treated their daughter/sister/niece/aunt and Mom and I was welcome to return or even live in the compound for life if I so desired.

I will share this one story about meeting my father-in-law for the first time ok. So it just so happened to be a christening of his oldest daughter's little boy and we spoke etc and everything was good. Later that night while I was sleeping and the family were still in the backyard drinking the father was quite drunk and started crying Because of his daughter my then gf his princess was well let's say he thought he was losing his little girl so was upset. Anyway I thought I heard a gun shot in my sleep k and turns out it was him firing his gun off into the air basically giving me a warning lol not to hurt his princess. We're married and have a 4 year old daughter now and I'm still alive. All is good. 👍✌️ Oh and I have a good relationship with my father-in-law also but the same can't be said about the mother-in-law but that's another story. ☮️🇬🇧🇵🇭✅👍✌️

My Filipina gf told me that I will have to somehow convince her family that they should accept me and that it is acceptable for her to marry me. Unfortunately, they do not speak English and I do not speak Waray. I think I am in trouble. Shouldn't she be putting forth some effort to present me in a favorable manner to her family? Should she at least tell them about me before I arrive?

@@The-Cat I cant figure her out. I try to move on, but she says I am breaking her heart so I keep chatting with her. She is 36, so not too young. Maybe too young in soul years. I get mixed messages.

it sounds mean but be conscious of how big her family is because no matter the situation you will be expected to pay for any unexpected medical bills. of course you are not rich but often they honk you are and that is enough. i mean what do you expect to do when your wife informs you that their lolo is in bad shape. now what can you do about it? i’d like to move there in person so they can see first hand how broke i am.
@The-Cat
@The-Cat Жыл бұрын
Dont have to move there to show how broke you are, just have to say "no, i have bills to pay" with a picture of utility bills with the amounts clearly visible. (very important, only utility bills not anything else) and ending the message "how can I survive when I have to pay this much for electyricity and water? " Let them do the conversion into pesos to get shocked

I have a very serious question for you and please try and see this from a connections stand point However it's a scenario. What if a man comes there to see his LDR and he learn by not meaning to that her sister has more in common with him. Do he cancel the relationship right away and leave? Is this normal or something out of no where that could happen. This is in general by the way and just a question. Thanks
