Lean idle - adjust af screw Bog at part throttle - raise the needle Bog at wide open throttle - use larger main jet Sputter at idle - adjust af screw or use smaller pilot jet Sputter at part throttle - lower needle Sputter at wide open throttle - use smaller main jet ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS check your tappet (valve) clearance before making any carb changes/mods/adjustments. These engines are notorious for leaking valves due to zero tappet clearance. The compression should easily hold the weight of your relaxed leg on the kick starter. If not, check valves. These engines are very easy to tune and the stock carbs work just fine.

Totally agree with this comment, I have two Thumpstars a TSK V5 140cc with YX-R motor new from factory, with Molkt Carb and a TSK V5 125cc this one has a Mikuni Carb and purrs like a kitten (valves had been adjusted prior to buying). The 140cc has had rough idle since new and no matter how I adjusted the air fuel screw or pilot jet sizes the problem remained, checked Valve clearences and whaddya know, they were tight! too tight, so I adjusted them to spec and all is now running perfect! It's not always the Carb people.

For anyone that's watching now, DON'T put the Slide and Valve Needle from a different Carb in New Carb. Also just advice when doing Carb work treat that Needle like it's made of glass, don't just toss your slide & needle on the dirty driveway or have it hanging off the end of the throttle cable banging around.

I had a small dirt cheap pitbike 70cc branded "samurai" once. These modern chinese pitbikes have developed lightyears in quality. However the problem with the samurai wasn't trash carbuetor, but it was the needle inside the carbuetor that was adjusted too tight. The needle has several positions you can adjust it and if you wan't to get power out of these dirt bikes just adjust the needle to longest travel position so that the throttle opens full. The problem wasn't the carbuetor. Samurai went from bogging to about 50 miles per hour. It was pretty enough speed for the 10" tyres. These carbuetors are exactly as good as any Mikuni. It just waste of money to invest those upgrade.

What? Chinese are notorious for small carbs. Even Taiwanese have small carbs. Add to that the poor build quality, and you're losing a lot for a few dollars. Replace the carb with a pwk.
@jeankarim100
@jeankarim100 5 ай бұрын
Those chinese carbs are not super precise so eventhough the needle adjustment should only affect mid range, if the needle is not sized properly even at full throttle on the mid range lean needle groove, the tip of the needle could still be in the way of the passage at the top of the emulsion tube, restricting some fuel to fully flow. So positioning it for rich mixture at the lowest groove should be something to try.

Part of the learning process also is possibly up jetting the carburetor or down jetting sometimes you need a little bit richer mixture and also the air fuel mixture usually about one and a 1/2 to 2 turns out adjust it with the bike warm and find the sweet spot (where the idol comes up a little) Then back it off about a quarter turn open so you know you're not to lean....

Spring has nothing to do with gas flow and thus, has absolutely no effect on bogging/fuel starvation whatsoever! The spring simply effects how quick, or slow your throttle and slide respond, up n down inside the carb. If its still bogging, you may need to play around with air/fuel mixture and/or jetting sizes. My advice to you young man,, is to learn, before you attempt to teach! 👍

@ExoticMoTioN that plastic gasket is to thermally isolate the carb from the heat of the engine, its so close that it would cause the fuel to vaporize in the float bowl more than without it. that foam air filter will filter better and flow better if you use proper foam filter oil or spray. you should also be swapping the Chinese spark plugs out for genuine NGK plugs. adjusting the valve lash after an hour or so of running.

The two o rings on the manifold to carb aren’t supposed to be together that’s why you have rev hang when you release the throttle to idle. Air is getting past the carb and into the engine so it won’t run right at high rpms because your fuel air fuel mixture is now off no amount of tuning will fix this until you flip around that spacer simple issue but greatly effects the performance of the bike

That pink tube you removed is a drain just like the one on the bottom of the carb. The drain on the side helps to keep your carb from flooding the engine when you lay the bike down or flip it over, removing that tube wont hurt anything but its gonna dump gas all over your carb & engine if you lay it down/flip it over. The drain on the bottom makes sure the carburator bowl doesnt get overfilled while normal riding.

I think those carbs are built lean in order to pass modern emission tests on a 70's technology. I noticed a suction air sound at the main air jet when pulling the throttle, my next step, look into drilling the main air jet to feed more air to the emulsion tube. Will keep you posted.

As best I can tell you replace the Chinese mikuni carburetor with a Chinese mikuni carburetor and I think they're the same size what did that accomplish seems like you could have just rejected what you had bogging is generally a fuel mixture issue and is resolved by jetting. I've always been taught lean pop Rich Bog think when the carburetor slide opens and then there's a hole there for the air to suck air into more readily if there's too much fuel it bogs for a second because it's hesitating while it goes the extra air it needs for that rich fuel mixture to burn

Just bought another pitbike myself and had a similar problem. It’s got a YX140, and I’m pretty sure the guy I bought it from had changed the carb at some point. But from what I’ve learnt, if it’s bogging when you quickly open the throttle, it’s running rich and needs leaning off. If the throttle is hanging when you let off, it’s running lean. But it could be down to a few things. The best thing to do is check for any air leaks around your manifold (spray a bit of carb cleaner or something around it, if the revs change, you’ve got a leak). Then make sure your throttle cable has no kinks and isn’t getting stuck somewhere. If all of that’s fine, try turning your air/fuel screw a 1/4 turn clockwise. It should be on the bottom of the carb. That’ll make you air/fuel mix richer. Also, check the spark plug, that will give you a good indication of how it’s running. In my case, I think the carb I had didn’t have the right jetting. So I bought a genuine Mikuni VM26 (665 Model) from ParkerRacing here in the UK. Works an absolute dream. Wasn’t expecting much of a difference really... But, fucking shit, it proved me wrong! Anyway, nice video man, keep it up!👍🏻

Good video thanks! I got my son a tou tou 125cc atv. Pretty sweet looking atv. I grew up riding yamaha yz250s and cr250fs. I swapped his carb out with not the one you recommended and its doggy. Like boggy. I adjusted the air fuel to dial it in. Just still something is going on. Like a clogged jet maybe.I know the engine has more to it. Thanks for posting. I kinda now want to scoop up one of these dirtbikes to put it through its paces and see if its any good. Back 10 years ago these things would crumble away. Parts fell off fast and they became un usable. Now it seems they have a good product for the $

The tube from the crankcase reuses emissions from the engine ... Better gas mileage basically. And the "L pipe" is called a manifold. 😉

More like it forces the engine to inhale oil contaminated regurgitated exhaust which blew by the rings... this will gum up the carb eventually. I always disconnect the puke tube and let it vent out under my bike.

Do any of the pit bikes have countershaft play? My Apollo has always made a little noise at slow speed. It is 3 years old now. I found the countershaft can move in and out a little. Doesn't wobble. I don't hear any bearing issues. Just in, and out play.

You are correct. All the stock carbs are junk on these bikes, but unless you're REALLY desperate DO NOT BUY a chinese made Mikuni knock off. It's not much better than the carb you replaced. You can always tell a knock off because a real 26mm Mikuni throttle slide and spring is almost TWICE that size. Just buy a real Mikuni. Better yet, if you really wanna make your bike come alive buy a NIBBI 26mm racing carb and throttle cable with a NIBBI 48mm racing filter. Also a new high performance CDI and spark plug. And 97 octane fuel. ALWAYS 97! People don't make fun of my Chinese pit bike any more. Lol. Btw, I have an Apollo RFZ DB x18 125cc. Edit: You'll also need the intake adapter as the NIBBI carb won't bolt up otherwise...

Hey man your one of the few people on here that seem to know what they are talking about.I have the same bike as you I love it! I had bought a "MIKUNI" carb last fall to put on it because the stock carb couldn't be taken apart easy and was giving me problems overflowing and causing gas to dump onto the engine. I'd like to get the mikuni to work but am having problems with it not going back to idle when I let off the throttle. Not sure if its the manifold (since the bolt holes dont really line up but it sounds like you got around that with the Nibb. can you send me a link to the carb and that adapter you got. Also sorry to ramble on but did you have to do any jetting afterwards? I'm basically at sealevel.

I mean that’s if he even wants to make this a tutorial video, and not just a random video he decided to post.. or even post a video yourself, this way you can show everyone the correct way to install a carb,, while correcting al the mistakes this kid made.. or at least the ones he didn’t acknowledge and correct at the end of the video.. cause just talking shit w/ out any helpful advice doesn’t encourage anyone.
