My first ever open-back headphones that I've reviewed. And honestly, the first "audiophile" pair of headphones I've owned. I've always used the HyperX Cloud 2s for everything, and the Bose QC35 for everything else. And these are amazing with great sound, but will I keep them? I'm not sure about that.

A few words of encouragement (hopefully) that I felt compelled to share... 1. I stumbled across your channel a few months ago and would 100% agree the sound and video quality is, as you say, a stark difference. One faucet of my profession is sound and audio. I say that to say I never once was repulsed by the quality of the sound and video because the quality of the content, in my opinion was superb. I love the reviews, the transparency, and just the whole vibe of the channel. 2. Striving for improvements is always great but you are correct, there comes a time when it’s good to “stop and smell the roses”. Sometimes we get so caught up in the journey itself that we forget to enjoy the seasons the journey take us through. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and anxious about it I would say it’s a good time to breathe. It’s good you realize it now rather than later when it’s too late (I’ve been there). 3. Once again, I love the channel. I love that you’re branching out and trying new things with the audio reviews. For whatever that opinion is worth. You’re doing great. You’re never going to please everyone. If by the end of making a video you feel like you’ve done solid work then celebrate that. Don’t focus on what wasn’t done well but enjoy accomplishments! Take Care, and sorry for the novel. I just hate seeing people get discouraged when they’re doing great work.

@@SwitchandClickOfficial it definitely was! There have been some other reviews done by similar channels but they go into really "audiophile" territory which is kind of hard to understand cause I can't relate to it well. As a lay-person, your review was easy to understand experience-wise. Forr the future, I think you should consider testing your headphones with an amp though to see if it makes a difference for people who do/do not have an amp. Just one thing i thought about because i know some headphones are not that great without an amp :)

Wow it's true this channel isn't even a year old! You've improved on many aspects and that could be overwhelming. Sometimes we try to make all at once but it's nothing wrong to improve one thing at a time. Give it some time to Settle. Then focus on the next improvement. Prioritizing following in some way the 80/20 principle will help too. If you keep making *good content in your own way* we'll keep enjoying the channel.

I've had my SHP9500's for the better part of a decade and I didn't realize that band could come off. Looks like I get to wash it tomorrow. As a guy who's 5'1 it's nice seeing someone else the same height as me wearing them. I just learned that braided audio cables have a weird echo effect when they brush against things. I'll be getting a non braided one in the summer. I went from cheap $40-$60 headphones until I found these lovely $115 (Canadian) ones and never went back. If I ever spend over $100 on headphones again I'll make sure to get noise isolating closed ear headphones. I never thought about my head size in terms of comfort, I've always enjoyed being smaller than my computer chairs so it felt normal for headphones too. I'll have to look into that later on. With life knowing when enough is enough is a tough lesson, and I do feel for KZbinrs who show their space they have to balance what they want vs the viewers.

You can get custom 3d printed earpad adapters for the shp9500 for like 5$, I'm currently using one with shure 840 pads and hm5 pads, the shure ones preserves most of the sound signature but with punchier bass, the hm5 makes the sound quited veiled, especially the highs becomes tame but quite muddy sounding.

Hi Betty, Thank you for doing this video on open-back headphones [I've never heard of these type of headphones]. I noticed that they contain 50mm drivers [I heard the bigger the size of drivers the better the sound, I could be wrong], my headphones only have 40mm drivers, which provide excellent sound reproduction. Philips might have missed a trick in that they should cater for people with smaller sized heads. Have you tried putting some extra padding between supplied padding, so that it will fit you? I like the design of these headphones, but for £58.59 they seem a bit expensive. I paid just £10 or $12.80 for my pair from Lidl. I am not sure that I like the idea of my music spilling out, but like the idea that it doesn't get too hot whilst wearing these headphones. I have had problems with leather like materials disintegrating after a few years use in the past. As for the length of supplied cable, does it lose something in sound quality due to the long length? I got to the end of your video and I'd say that you have done a great job with these videos and I hope you continue I like all your numerous subscribers appreciate the hard work you have placed in producing these YT videos. As a thank you please listen to this track whilst sitting down or better still reclining and with your eyes closed. You will hear why. You're doing great, just remember that people are more motivated to complain than to praise, so don't let it get to you if you're seeing more negative feedback than the good ones. In regards to the channel branching out, personally I'm more interested in mkb than audiophile gears. I go for the budget options for both category anyways, but it's easier to see and understand the improvements in mkb, than to understand the descriptions of how a headsets sounds like.

My walls are pretty thin and my room is next to my parents, I'm also normally awake at night so I'm really concerned that I'll wake them up. Would you say it leaks enough sound to maybe wake them up? Nice review, keep it up! Looking forward to the Hifimans (Hifimen? what's the plural of that) as well, those are supposed to be at least a tier up from these. If open-back cans are not suitable for your use, you could eventually try something like the Fostex TH-X00, they are semi-closed, so there's less pressure than with fully closed ones, but they also don't leak that much sound either.

@kornenator
@kornenator 3 жыл бұрын
@@SwitchandClickOfficial Ouch, i'd expect better quality than that from Drop :/ I only tried the non-Drop version of them, and they seemed fair, but not premium quality of course. DT990-s should be super comfortable though, especially with the velour/plush ear pads. They are also easier to drive (unless you got the 600 Ohm version). Planarmagnetic is still my favourite, and not a lot of brands make them (Hifiman, Audeze, Oppo and Fostex and a few smaller manufacture type brands). The planar drivers tend to provide better clarity and more precise sound (though it's best to pair them with a high quality sound source to get the best result).

Headphones are, like most things, a game of compromises. Open-back ones leak audio and lack bass in exchange for great detail and a wider sound stage; closed-back ones don't leak audio and are bassy but are less detailed and usually compensate for the narrow sound stage with software that lowers the audio quality. There is no such thing as a universally perfect headphone - it's up to you to analyze which of these features are more important to you. If you use them in a work environment where you're close to someone else, of course leaking audio is a no-no, so you're probably going to enjoy more the closed-back options. If you do want some middle ground, try the Arcano SHP-80s. They have a semi-open back so they don't leak as much audio and can therefore retain a some of the detail and have a little wider sound stage than a closed-back headphone. They also have a little bit more clamping, while still being very light and comfortable. About the SHP-9500: since it's "cheap" for an open-back headphone (which it isn't, but the other options are even more expensive), it's expected for it to have more cons than the others, like the poor quality cable and the non-existant clamping. The headphone industry is, like any other, profit-oriented. Sadly.

This is the video review that honestly made me buy this headphone, i have not recieved it yet, but the biggest selling point for me, besides the amazing audio-quality, is the fact that it is absolutely big, as someone who is at the heavier side, i've always had insecurities on how small my headphones looked when i wear them since i have a more rounder head-shape. The size of this headphone elimnates that, nothing better than feeling good with the quality of sound, and looking even better!

Why not try Philips SHP9500, their have the same size cup but have more claiming force to head, have more base + lass sharp high (small reduce high less details for more Base). Apparently similar minds I think. Unless you looking for a different natural sound +sounds stage.😇

Too bad that the headphone is too big for your head, it actually is a nice fit for me. I like openback headphones because I can hear if someone is knocking at the door or is calling me, my ears aren't sweaty and there is pressure and heat buildup after long hours of gaming.

The quality of the stock cable is fine. It just has a shitty aesthetic thing that slides off on that one in particular. That and you prefer shorter cables. As for the mild discomfort you had, you are just unlucky. I can wear them all day with no issues. One of the reasons so many people love it is because it doesn't clamp very hard.
