Given the rise in the city's population, and the price of land I am not surprised that old buildings that were not historical were demolished. (Many cities relocate old cemeteries -- I have mixed feelings about that) The human population boom that occurred post-WW2 (thanks to ant- biotics and other modern medicine) was bound to change our cities; no matter who or what group populated the city or region. It is a world-wide phenomenon.

A very relevant and interesting question. As far as I know there was no sound in films until the late '20s. Being so, the voiceover may have been added later, for the documentary to be aired in cinemas, for instance. This means that the comments are a bit retrospective in relation to the moment the images were taken.

You can tell by the voice over, it was done by an English man, just like all the Pathe news reels did. They couldn't show just the pictures, because they obviously wouldn't have known what the film was about.

No, there was never an Arab or a Muslim state in the Holy Land with the capital in Jerusalem. There were only Jewish kingdoms of Israel and Judah during the First Temple era, the Jewish kingdom at some point in time after Alexander the Great's empire fell and split but before the Romans took over (in the Second Temple era), and later the Christian Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem. Arabs/Muslims always ruled the land from somewhere else preferring Damascus, Cairo or Istanbul.

Just to correct you on one thing: officially, the Ottoman empire wasn't abolished until 3 March 1924. The British set foot in Palestine in 11 December 1917. That's more than 6 years that lapsed before the Ottoman empire vanished. In a span of 30 years, the Britain managed to unravel more than 400 years of relative peace and calm.
