Thank you! I really am getting better and learning how to use Adobe Premier. There's a steep learning curve but once you figure things out it's really powerful all the things you can do with it. As for the autocrossing, it's amazing how the smallest things make the biggest difference. It never ceases to amaze me. Some day I hope to get an opportunity to analyze a run where the finish comes down to a few thousandths of a second so we can see where and how this happens. I've done enough of these analysis that I can say with some confidence it's usually a back and forth game where one takes a lead then the other takes it back all the way until the finish.

I learned: 1) don’t take the launch for granted, and 2) wow the difference that first slalom made! Corvette looked like he was often at the limits of adhesion - he drove on the controlled edge more and better. Both awesome drivers in very different cars.

Krebsbach certainly launched it like a rocket. But Swenson drove that corvette like he stole it on the edge consistently.

I’ve spent years trying to perfect my slaloms. Watching video after video and listening to how others attack slaloms have been the one thing that’s helped me. Unfortunately we can’t always run the perfect line. This goes to show that every element truly counts and always full attack. Great video comparison!

Thank you I’m glad you liked the comparison. The one I’ve learned this year is that I’m not driving the slalom fast enough. Good technique but not enough speed. It’s very difficult to do both.

This is an excellent video comparison. Great point that it was won in the first slalom and thank you for showing this point with the adjusted video. I have done just over a year of autoXing and this is one of the most helpful videos I’ve found showing the differences in carrying speed vs keeping a tight line. 2 very different cars for sure, but this really shows their handling differences and how that breaks down the time between each corner. Very well done and thank you for taking the time to show this.

Thanks, Nate. I'm glad you enjoyed the comparison. I too really learned a lot from seeing the comparison when the runs were lined up and I'm so glad to hear you found it most helpful. Have you watched my previous videos on how to autocross faster? I think you may find them helpful as well. Cheers!

I think if the evo had a softer rear setup it could have handled more speed through the slalom. The rapid weight shift combined with the (reportedly) rough pavement was causing him to lose too much rear grip so he dialed it down a little. Having autocrossed an awd car for 3 years i will say that the slalom is my favorite feature. I run a pretty soft suspension and have always had good luck with it staying planted as long as my tire pressure is right.

I would really liked to have seen the in car footage, I would guess the EVO driver was fighting the car the whole way around the course just from the way the car bounces and slides in the corners. Not to say that the corvette didn't slide coming out of the most important corner @ 00:50 affecting the entry into the last section just before the finish. We can analyze this video all day long, but I think the real thing we need to take away is that car control is the key and believe being smooth has a lot to do with it.

Shawn's Evo sends it so hard that he was 3 car lengths ahead of Jeremy by the first yellow cone! But Jeremy caught up and was even a nose ahead of Shawn by the second slalom cone. This means Shawn braked too much for the slalom and didn't carry as much speed through the slalom as Jeremy.

0:28 24-25th frame. My take? Look how far Shawn is off the 1st slalom cone compared to Jeremy, meaning a steeper angle to get around #2 will be needed, and how does that happen? Gotta slow down. Neither of them got to the backside of the 2nd cone well, but Jeremy was closer to it due to Shawns bobble/slide pushing him off the line making him "late" around the 3rd meaning losing speed at the end of the slalom. Thoughts?

Going to have to disagree with your analysis of what happened in the slalom. You say the Evo overbraked on entry to the slalom, but in reality it seems pretty apparent that the opposite happened. The Evo carried too much speed (and had too tight of a line) entering the slalom and you can see the car wash out. That extra 5-10' of sliding meant he couldn't get back to the gas since he was still fighting to get through the slalom. You can see that the RF tire is overloaded and too much is being asked if it. The fix was either 1) to drive the car further to the right and initiate the turn in to the slalom a few feet earlier, smoothening out the input and allowing him to carry more speed through the rest of the element, or 2) take the same line but slow down a few feet earlier. Another possibility is that the surface was uneven and the Vette was better able to absorb the bump, but this looks more like classic overdriving the entry of a slalom by the Evo to me.

Well just going back to what you said "did he under drive the slalom" or "was braking to much for the second cone in the slalom" In my book slaloms can make or brake your runs even after 32 years of auto crossing I feel like I've done a slalom right once! I love events with lots of slaloms though. I think also if Shawn would have unwind the steering at the finish he may have pick up a .100. Is this how you have to drive an EVO a very pronounced turn in?
