Welcome back and great result! Seemed like extremely weird race dynamics throughout. Such a strong man masterclass by Trevor, also. He is local to Sacramento and has been riding like that all year in the hardest group rides in the area. It's no surprise that he dropped nuke after nuke in the race to win it. Attacking the pee break is such a classless move. Worse than attacking through the feed.

With that bad of pavement no wonder you want a 30mm+ tire. It looked awful, couldn’t imagine 25mm tires on that road! I do have a question on these long 90 mile races, do you have water fill up’s? Surely you can’t go the full 90 miles on 2 bottles of water.

for what it’s worth…It was not super hot outside that day. I ran 2 950ml bottles with 200g of carbo mix in each. There was a neutral feed for water bottles manned by promoter staff and some utilized on lap 2 and 3.

Question Jeff, why don’t you race with the foil?
@travispyle29052 ай бұрын
I'm guessing because it is a super stiff bike (I have a foil and it is super stiff vertically) , or it might not be a Mike's Bike sponsored bike(?).
@savievankint2 ай бұрын
@@travispyle2905 what's the downside of a bike being super stiff? (Stiff vertically in your own words)
@travispyle29052 ай бұрын
@@savievankint Down side to a bike that is stiff vertically means it does not have much vertical compliance. On the other hand, Bikes with more vertical compliance do a good job to take some of the sting out of bad pavement, road buzz or for example when crossing railroad tracks. My other bikes are a 2019 specialized tarmac SL6 disc brake, that bike handles GREAT and has more vertical compliance than the foil. I also have a 2022 BMC roadmachine and that bike does a GREAT job of being torsionally stiff (good for power transfer) and yet is also Very vertically compliant, however, it IS NOT AS aero and it's handling is not as good as the Tarmac (BMC has slower turn in response then my tarmac). These are all my opinions and opinions may differ, but I have lent my BMC to my other teammates when their primary bike was in the shop for a week or two and they had the same experience with the BMC being very torsionally stiff for great power transfer, but also nice and comfy from the vertical compliance. My foil does not handle as well as my tarmac (and is probably not as good as my bmc either), When I say a bike handles well, what I mean is that my tarmac (provides rapid cornering response = turn in is immediate, it holds it's line well in a corner, and I can adjust my line mid corner without unsettling the bike) but yet my tarmac is also not twitchy either which is an awesome combo in my mind (none of those three bikes are twitch). The Foil's handling isn't as sharp, but the foil tracks a straight line very well, which is good for riding on the road, but for crits I would prefer it to have sharper handling (I still use the foil for crits though... haha). Where the foil REALLY shines is not so much that the frame is more aero (which it is and I'm probably saving 10+ watts in the frame alone... see the German Tour Magazine ... use google translate, they do 3rd party aero testing of all the big name bikes, it is a data gold mine), but where the foil really shines is that it's geometry allows me to maintain an aero position comfortable for LONG periods of time, like 30+ minutes or more at a time. What I mean is that I can ride for extended periods of time with my forearms on the tops (forearms parallel to the ground) with my elbows in a 90 degree position and my hands on the hoods... I could only hold that position for a few minutes at a time with my tarmac or bmc bikes. My Tarmac and BMC bikes were profesionally fitted to me. My position on the foil felt so good how I initially set it up I didn't feel the need to take it to a fitter. Other dudes on my team have commented how rediculouslly aero my position is on my foil and how I now give them a horrible draft. (I'm 5'9" 175 pounds, so no bean pole). For example A buddy of mine and I went on a hard ride where we were intended on alternating 2-3 minute pulls for about an hour, we were pushing the pace. I was on my foil and He was on a new Felt disc bike that is pretty aero, he is my height and maybe 10 pounds heavier and crazy jacked. my pulls were around 320 watts and so were his, but when I was behind him I averaged like 230 watts; however, when he was behind me he averaged like 280 watts in my draft. We traded off pulls like that for about 30 minutes minutes and then his pulls started shortening and my pulls start lengthening until finally around 45 minutes into the hour effort I just took the lead and pulled straight for the last 15 minutes because he was totally smoked. We were both doing threshold during our pulls but while I was doing zone 2 in his draft, he was doing sweetspot in my draft... which eventually crushed him. Sorry for the tangents and Kudos if you read all this.
@travispyle29052 ай бұрын
@@savievankint vetically stiff bikes transfers more of the bumps and road buzz to the rider. On the flip side, a bike that has more vertically compliance (less vertically stiff) does a good job of taking the edge off the crappy patches of pavement. In my mind I want a bike that is very torsiontally stiff (does a good job of power transfer), but has some vertical compliance. My 2022 BMC roadmachine has great torsional stiffness, yet has some vertical compliance (the seat stays are thick horizontally not vertically, and a long non thick seat post). If I could have a bike with the vertical compliance of my BMC, handling of my tarmac SL6, aero dynamics of my foil and allows the aero body position I can maintain on my foil, that would be the perfect bike for me.
