@@peterbartolomeo5542 The Beatles were NOT just a “ Pop Rock commercial“ band. They defied any particular genre. Plus, their ability to experiment in the studio made it possible for virtually every band that followed them (including LZ) to follow suit. That should NEVER be underestimated. As for live performances, I don’t claim that The Beatles were as virtuosic in terms of featuring solo, standout performances by the individual members but, that was not their forte. They operated more as a single unit, in service to their songs. Totally different approach to playing. Besides, the only time most of the general public got to hear them at their best (or nearly their best, for all we know) was at their short rooftop concert in 1969. John Lennon once said that their best live shows occurred in Hamburg before they even became famous.

@@peterbartolomeo5542 The Beatles remain the best band of all time imho. They revolutionized pop and rock music. No other band evolved and reinvented themselves as much as they did, and no other band released as many great songs as they did or such a variety of music. For sure, Led Zeppelin is a great band, with amazing guitarwork and drumming, and so many epic, complex tracks. Ultimately it's probably like comparing apples and oranges!

In my opinion, Led Zeppelin is 2nd, right behind The Beatles in terms of their influence, relevance and impact on music as a whole. Robert Plant is one of the greatest rock vocalist, frontman and most badass, sexy mofos to ever grace the stage!! Jimmy Page! Easily considered one of the greatest and most influential guitarist ever to pick up the axe! John Paul Jones!! Not just a genius bass player, but synth/keyboard and one of the greatest composers in rock history! And John Bonham!! Considered the “greatest drummer of all time!” Changed the game entirely with his style, his use of polyrhythms and triplets was far ahead of its time! When this album was released, I was in college. A friend of mine got the album and told a bunch of us, "You have to come and listen to this". We all went into his room, and our jaws dropped as we listened to this album. We thought we had died and gone to music heaven. When Led Zeppelin II came out, the same friend bought it and told us all, "You won't believe me, but this one is even BETTER". We all laughed at him, but soon we realized that he wasn't lying. And so it went with all first four albums. It was just incredibly good music with a heavy blues influence. Just listen to Robert Plant's voice. He is a blues singer. And John Bonham was one of the greatest drummers of the 20th century. Everyone in that group was an extraordinary talent.

Great reaction video!! The most notable reaction I took from you was how wild Jimmy page kept getting in this album. The best way I can explain this is that Jimmy was so much more talented on the guitar than any body who came before him and he wanted to show case his talents on this album, and what a job he did. That “sound” you heard on “Dazed and Confused” was actually a violin bow on his guitar. It was amazing what he was able to do on both electric and acoustic. Another thing that I want to point out is the area where they grew up in in England had a major musical influence from American Blues. Albums where brought back from shipping routes by Long shore man during the American jazz/blues period. That area of England feel in love with American Blues/jazz. From that Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones grew up playing and listening to that type of music. When they formed their own band, their love for Blues/Jazz continued. That’s why you have Songs like “You Shook Me” “I Can’t Quit You Baby” and “How Many More Times” sound similar to Blues music with added heavy focus on guitar because they wanted to give what they grew up loving a new Rock and Roll Twist. As you listen to more albums you will notice a Pattern.

100% right. Rock was pioneered by black artists. Made mainstream by acts like Elvis Presley who had many black artists writing his songs and giving him songs because radios wouldnt give airtime to black artists, and giving them to Elvis was the only way they could make real money out of them. The Beatles were always open about how much they got from artists like Chuck Berry and Little Richard
@456012
@456012 4 ай бұрын
@@HBMediaFilmsbut just as many black artists had white people writing their songs. Hound dog by sister Rosetta Thorpe for example, one of the most famous rock songs ever written by 2 white guys. And into the 60’s and 70’s white artists were widely covered by black artists and had some of their biggest hits- all along the watchtower by Hendrix, proud Mary by Tina turner to name a few. Further, it’s true that Elvis had an advantage because of his race in the 50’s, but it’s really not why he was such a next level cultural force and continues to be now. He has one of the greatest most instantly recognizable voices ever and was an incredible song interpreter and had amazing charisma. There were plenty of other genius white rock artists of that era (buddy holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins) who aren’t nearly as culturally ubiquitous now. So his legacy can’t just be chalked up to his race, or those other dudes would be just as famous as well. Elvis had something truly unique and special.

I only recently got into The Beatles, but Led Zeppelin was my obsession when I found them in 8th grade (thanks to the fact that I watched That 70s Show haha) - so many wonderful songs and vibes, looking forward to seeing you listen to them all for the first time!

You nailed it...this is the blues, fuzzed up, cranked up, and sped up. 😂😂😂 They do progress as their career moves along (more varied influences, but still guitar-based with Plant wailing away). But this album is a tour de force for the time. It pretty much kicked everybody's ass. 😂😂😂 Def on my "deserted island" list. LZII is as well. As is IV, and "Physical Graffiti." The others are still good albums, but these rise above other bands. I've had their albums in possibly every media format (vinyl, cassette, CD, mp3) since they were released.

The Summer of 76.. Parents away for weekend.. Oldest brother, his friends, beer, liquor, and w33d.. One of several albums playing beginning to end at least a dozen times through that very long weekend... Led Zeppelin I. At 9, I could not appreciate my brother's music, but now that he is gone (murdered in 2014, 2 days after Christmas), I am constantly brought back to those far away, long gone days.. and wish i were so young again.

This was a fabulous reaction!! Definitely got what you were saying about Your Time Is Gonna Come and the Beatles. Been a Zep fan since their beginning - hope you do all their catalog - it's worth the journey - particularly the way you do the album reaction. One of their later albums - Physical Graffiti - that will be an experience 😁Thanks - looking forward to LZII. ☮

They had only been together for a few months before recording this cornerstone debut in 1969. Hard rock was born and Heavy Metal was around the corner, but Zeppelin were actually just trying to capture the real roots of rock, the Delta Blues, Soul, Boogie etc. But we got it with the amps turned to 11...

24:25 (R&B/blues/black influence) Very perceptive! You got it exactly right - and that's the significance of the British Invasion. The white kids in the segregated 1950s weren't exposed to the essential music of black artists (blues, R&B, etc such as Robert Johnson) due to middle class racism. Meanwhile British kids in the 50's could more easily hear those artists and were heavily influenced by the blues/R&B. As young adults in the 60's, that whole generation of Brits had a very different, more soulful vibe, which they exported back to the US as the British Invasion. That was fortunate, but at the same time it was sad that Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, the Stones, etc. had to reintroduce white middle America to its own rich heritage.

Dude I want to see you go through the whole history of rock music. It makes me so happy seeing someone hearing this stuff for the first time. Can't wait to see you get to 70s punk rock and 80s/90s alternative rock like Pixies, MBV, Nirvana, Pumpkins. Before you leave the 60s though you MUST experience Hendrix. Electric Ladyland is an all-time classic. But from where you are now, Ziggy Stardust, Raw Power, Never Mind the Bollocks.... that'll get you where you're going..

Next check out their second album Led Zeppelin II and this time don't use genius, because it can take away some of the surprises the tracks sometimes have in them in tempo changes. I would say that for Led Zeppelin the experience is not primarily in the lyrics; it's in the music. Another tip: Try to pick up on how amazingly well John Bonham is on the drums. It may take a second listen, but in the realm of drumming he is as impressive as Jimmy Page is on the guitar and Robert Plant is with singing :)

This is my favorite band and my grandson is appreciating them now too (8 yrs old). Zep2 is great, Zep 3 is a bit controversial but they’re back to Zeppyness on Zep4 and beyond. Their entire anthology is amazing and you have lots more you can explore. Their rock and roll hall of fame induction ceremony is an awesome watch too! Really enjoyed your comments and reactions.
