There it is. That's a whole vibe. Children of Bodom may need their own playlist at this rate. Reacting to Trashed Lost & Strungout was...an...experience to say the least.

I remember someone played their Britney's cover on a phone in school and I was like "LOL, but actually... these guys can play!" and I started to listen to them (since then I can't help myself but Alexi is associated with Britney Spears to me, he's blonde too :-D). I've been to their concert twice and actually the sound was kinda shit ))) But anyway it was crazy and entertaining.

You can't believe how furious I have sometimes become when people in a party or whatever say "this is just noise and mindless beating of the drums". Ok, I can understand if you're not a metal fan but usually these kinds of comments come from people who have never touched an actual musical instrument in their lives and therefor have no clue how much talent they are hearing. My 83 year old Grandpa, as a former jazz musician heard COB in my teen age years and actually came to ask me "what band is this?" I told him it's COB from Finland ( where we live ), and even though he had hard time listening the vocals he hugely respected their melodies and composing altogether!

children of bodom is text book melodic death metal, they were one of the pioneers of the genre and in my opinion the absolute best at it, you know that Alexi Laiho was a special kind of frontman and musician, when guys like Dave Mustaine says that heavens metal band now has their lead guitarist. Laiho orchestrated a 100 man guitar medley for the honor of finnish 100th year of independence. he played fricking vivaldi as solos for fun, made a brittney spears song in to a heavy metal ballad, he was a hero of my youth and one of the biggest reasons i started to listen to the ogs in both metal and music in general.

Ok, I don’t usually comment on videos but I’m feeling emotional (because the lead singer of this band recently passed away) and because you have a true appreciation for the music it seems. As someone who grew up in high school listening to this band I recommend some other bands which I’ve also fallen in love with (ranked by order of preference) - across different styles yet not too far in certain ways since melodically very powerful and also very mature in terms of sound. Hopefully this helps with some of the catching up if you feel like you’ve been missing out :p 1. Ensiferum (and Wintersun, first album) 2. Windir 3. Equilibrium 4. Opeth 5. Finntroll 6. Falkenbach 7. Moonsorrow 8. Immortal 9. Children of Bodom (the first four albums) 10. In Flames (first 5 albums) 11. Summoning 12. Dimmu Borgir (early albums, including the remastered Stormblåst) 13. Kalmah 14. Thank you for making me actually laugh out loud, that is 🤣🤣 Oh my word your reactions on the first two pauses before the actual "singing" are PRICELESS 🤣 Your face just screams "wait.. too many things happening.. does not.. compute.." and your "wai wait.. I'm mad..." 🤣 So again, thank you. I can't stop grinning at you. I'm glad you found them. In case someone hasn't informed you already, one band member left and he owned the rights for the band name anf stuff. So they are continuing by the name of "Bodom after midnight" and the lead singer is still with them. So, keep enjoying them!

I sincerely am happy to hear that you enjoyed this band, they were one of a kind, always will be, and a lot of that comes from the lead guitarist/lead vocalist Alexi Laiho, who sadly just passed away at the age of 41 about a week ago in Helsinki Finland. I highly recommend checking out some other videos. If you like the keyboardist, you should do a reaction to Downfall, the keyboard and guitar intro and the build on that one is intense, and the drums are just chugging along. Yeah, you got 10 albums and about 2 albums worth of cover songs to tide you over, they did quite a bit of work in the almost 25 years they were around, one of my all time favorite bands. RIP Alexi Laiho

9:10 Yes, Janne Wirman was actually a Jazz Keyboardist when he joined Children of Bodom. They converted him into a metal head xD And yes, Children of Bodom were incredible live! They were always about having fun and partying. In true finnish fashion they were always piss drunk on stage but they would still deliver everytime. I suggest you watch any song from their live DVD Stockholm 2006, they are all incredible! But my absolute favorite will always be their song "Angels Don't Kill" from that live show. It's a beautiful melodic death metal ballad (yes, a ballad!) and in my opinion the best song CoB has ever written!

COB is the best live band I've ever seen by miles hands down, Alexi is very good at what he does and puts on quite a show and I'm so glad I had the privilege seeing them in their heyday. I saw them with Iced Earth back in the day when I was a wee teenage lad. The first band shirt my GF (now wife) ever bought me was a COB Hatebreeder shirt. COB did officially break up, but a new version emerged called Bodom After Midnight which has Alexi and Daniel on guitars and they will be playing COB songs live.

I have been listening to metal since i was 12 (from Finland)...but only now im beginning to understand it...it is more or less like a Classical Music. It has been nice to watch your very ”professional” reactions. I can find Similar reactions also by myself (enjoying)...allthough im not a Musician, Music has a really big part in our family. That is why cutting.pieces ”a part” is important...especially for future musicians like our children: guitar, piano and trumpet or whatever :)

I had read years ago that before the keyboardist joined the band he didnt know who they were and he wasnt even a heavy metal fan. H was a Finish Humpa keyboardist. I saw them live twice. first time was around 2001. I knew the band and had heard a few songs but want a huge fan at the time. As soon as they played their first song, "Needled 24/7" the energy from the band and the crowd made me an instant fan. Here I am 23 years later and they are probably my #2 band and Alexi is my personal guitar hero. Ive been playing guitar for 28 years and own 2 of his signature guitars but trying to do A CoB cover and do Alexi justice is very difficult.

I remember seeing in a video like 15 years ago that the vocalist/guitarist is actually the one who writes the synthesizer parts, which would explain why they sound like a guitar.

Every song...EVERY song is the level of quality song-writing. They have one of the most unique styles I’ve ever heard. A heavier thrash-punk vibe meets some of the best melo-death melodies and neoclassical playing ever. And man...Alexi was one of the greatest guitarists of all time. You could never completely replicate his solos when trying to learn them. He was my childhood hero and the reason I play guitar. RIP to the absolute legend. Gone but never forgotten.

Yup. Gone they are but newly arising from the ashes also. Aleksi's new band is called Bodom After Midnight. From previous line up guitarist Daniel Freyberg is on board too. Got to see them three times including the very last show in Helsinki. Energy. Energy and energy. Hate me! is my suggestion.

“Everytime I Die” has one of my favorite riffs ever. Can’t really go wrong with anything from their Hatebreeder or Follow the Reaper albums. Edit: I was lucky enough to see them twice. The one show they did they only played older songs and it was killer. Not to mention Carach Angren was their opener so that was a great night.

So happy right now. Despite my metal youth, this is my first intro to CoB (I'm prolly too old). Mainly, though, I love watching your physical responses, Chase: you comment on instrumentation, and we can watch you follow it physically. It's really cool. It's the equivalent of watching Julia (or Elizabeth of The Charismatic Voice) move their throats or jaws while watching vocal gymnastics LOL

Children of Bodom are an Amazing band. It is worth going back to their first album and work through the albums as their sound evolved over the albums. One of my favourite songs of theirs is Everytime I Die. Such a Heavy song!!!!! And anything from Hate Crew Deathroll (one of their best albums in my eyes). Alexi Laiho (Guitarist/Singer) is now performing COB songs under the name Bodom after Midnight (I am guessing there are legal reasons, he is unable to use Children of Bodom) so in essence they are still going (though I believe it is a whole new band now aside from Alexi). On a side note Alexi broke his left arm a few years ago and had to re learn how to play guitar again (to a certain extent) clearly it hasn’t slowed him down. Awesome musician and songwriter!!!!

Man, Laiho is my second favorite guitar player in the world right after Empuu (sorry, bro:). I grew up having everything he had at the time on repeat. I remember Hatebreeder just came out, we were so psyched. Follow the Reaper was fire! Finally we took a trip to the Hartwall Arena to see live, one of the best shows ever in the history. Later we had some drinks with Alexi on the afterparty, exchanged a few words, man we miss you. From the bottom of my heart thank you for making my childhood awesome. Btw, I was also hanging out at a Lake Bodom a lot, quite a nice place. Do the Silent Night, Bodom Night. Also quick shout-out to Janne Wirman, you man are awesome too, one of the best keyboard shredders out there :) And as it was mentioned: EVERY their song gets same level of attention. They are all awesome!

I would love to see more of them on your channel ( especially CHILDREN OF BODOM - Sixpounder as that is exactly the 2003 CoB that I grew up with and to this day love, and it has a music video, so that'll have to do ;-) ) and for the last as always: Commenting for stats, Like for obvious reasons

This song in particular, specifically this music video on Yahoo! Music back before KZbin, was the bridge between me listening to Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer, to listening to extreme metal. It blew me away so I bought their entire discography. Within a year I was listening to all kinds of Death and Black Metal.

About 20 years ago metal was not my thing, but it was my now ex's. Children of Bodom was one of the bands I thought was 'acceptable' to hear. (Most of metal was just loud noises to me. lol) I think it might be the melodic side that made it more bearable. Now I LOVE metal and especially symphonic and melodic death metal from Europe. Funny how your taste in music changes when you get older.
