They all got off on that song that night. One of the most legendary live rock recordings of all-time. This was a fantastic blues rock guitar player, and two super talented jazz cats crushing it and pushing rock music way past where it had been up to that point. Cream are still IMHO the greatest trio in rock history. The first rock supergroup and arguably the most talented. Their musicianship was off the charts and Jack Bruce was an underrated musical genius.

So great Verdy! I saw them the next night on March 11, 1968 in Sacramento. Legendary band, and a really great concert. They booked one evening in my hometown during a 2-week period that the band was playing at Winterland in San Francisco. Crossroads was the last song of the set that night. It astonishes me that young people still react to Cream the same way I did when I was a kid in the mid to late sixties. I can tell from the way you move that you get it. They were one of the first groups to get away from pop music that was played on AM radio at the time. Any music by Cream or Eric Clapton is good. One of his most famous songs is Layla.

Back then the film makers liked to focus on the faces instead of the actual playing, unfortunately. Ginger Baker is one one of the greatest jazz/rock drummers of all time. Sunshine of Your Love is worth a definite listen just for the drumming.

From the moment I first heard Cream back in '68 Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker blew me away and have been my favourite rhythm section all my life - that is until 6 months ago when Misa and Akane had exactly the same impact on me and now I really can't choose between them. Jack and Ginger were Jazz musicians so you will often hear counter rhythms going on in Creams music which made it that more interesting than just straight blues/rock which is what Eric thought they were doing lol

Sorry, must say that speed is not -- blues, jazz, progr, heavy... It is really -- nothing. It is a way to avoid being detected -- playing not well.

@@r1p2m32 I don't understand what exactly you are refering to but that speed takes music out of those genres seems to be a statement of your musical preference. There are plenty of jazz songs around 400 bpm for example, you don't have to look further than the likes of John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and Charles Mingus. As far as the other genres 200 bpm is too common to bother listing. Crossroads is only 100 bpm and Misa and Akane cover the range 220 to well below 100. I also disagree that speed is a primary means of hiding lack of skill.

Actually the co-called word "super-group" started when prominent musicians from different bands formed their own one (Even tho several played with John Mayall and the Yardbirds). The best known ones are "The Travelling Wilburys", "C,S,N &Y," maybe "ELP" and "Blind Faith" (with Clapton). I wouldn't call "Humble Pie", even tho I liked Steve Marriot or even "ELP" supergroups.

Winterland was a ballroom in San Francisco, across town from the Haight-Ashbury. I was 16 when this happened and I was there. Yes, 3 musicians at their peak and huge mounds of Marshall cabinets. It was LOUD. I felt the music. Crossroads is a cover of the original song by Robert Johnson about a crossroads south of town near Clarksdale Mississippi where the legend has it that Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil to have him tune his guitar. Clarksdale claims to be the birthplace of Delta Blues music, and that pretty close to truth considering how many great musicians came from the area. The towns mentioned in the song like Rosedale, are real towns in that area. The riverside is a reference to the east bank of the Mississippi river,, not far away. Good ears! 🎸💯 This was back when Eric Clapton was considered "god" of the guitar! He's the only artist inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame 3 times! You might want to check out his sick guitar & vocal skills while he was with Derek and the Dominos ("Layla" is 🔥!) I've seen him live 4 or 5 times in different venues. Every time was an incredibly amazing experience‼☮ ❤ 🎶

You've got great ears. Cream was 3 virtuoso's, and people were saying "Clapton is god" from the Bluesbreaker days, but in some ways he was the most limited player in Cream, even though he was a blues virtuoso. Bruce & Baker both had wider horizons and influences, and they were unreal. I can't believe Jack Bruce is gone for 6 years, so sad. But great song, great reaction, thanks.

So pleased you have found the wonderful world of Cream. I think the best Album for you to do is, Wheels of Fire. When it originally came out it consisted of two LPs one live and one in the studio. I would particularly recommend the live versions of Spoonful and Politician, also, if you like extended drum solos that manage not to be boring then Toad is for you. The studio songs are also interesting and innovative. Jack Bruce has an incredible voice and is usually the lead vocalist. Three incredible talents at the top of their game ,

Disraeli Gears is a great album for you to react to. "Sunshine of Your Love" is one of their most popular songs, and the record as a whole is a classic. Eric Clapton went on to form Derek and the Domino's after this. "Layla " was a big song you may have heard.

maybe do Disraeli Gears (Cream) and Axis Bold As Love (Hendrix) to find out who was best in 1967? Duel of the 2 best guitarist in GB and in the world. 2 outstanding trios behind the invention of progressive rock. It is absolutely fair to compare these 2 albums.

@@michaeldezego340 Yes sir! Clapton also played in Bonnie and Delaney in the interim, but she won't likely have heard any of that.

I had Disraeli Gears on cassette and wore it out.

@@troycvar80 Right! Interestingly he had a subordinate role in Delaney and Bonnie. Delaney and George Harrison both had strong influences on his early solo career.
