Death may be the only band that all metalheads agree is GOATed. Chuck was a one-of-a-kind talent. for more metal with both incredible musicianship and strong aesthetic direction, check out Opeth (Deliverence or Blackwater Park), their songs are journeys, but if you listen to Godspeed you can handle 10-20 minute songs. also Meshuggah (Destroy Erase Improve or obZen), who have managed to be one of the most influential metal bands while sounding totally unique.

I think Sunbather would be an amazing album for a video. Because it has some more melodic elements yet retains a lot of the adrenaline-rush-inducing energy that albums lien this has, and it also has many similarities to post-rock and shoegaze (genres I know you like), it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on it. It’s also a very important metal album for the 2010’s. Deafheaven is a great band, and I think it would also be worth checking out New Bermuda, as that album is a bit more dynamic than Sunbather IMO (even if you don’t want to do a vid on it). Another good one would be Through Silver In Blood, though if I remember correctly you already heard some of that on stream. Really looking forward to more reactions to albums like this!! edit: seems like ive started a small war in the replies and id just like to say that gatekeeping an already pretty obscure genre is some pretentious bullshit

The thing about these older metal bands is that they made music that was extremely catchy and entertaining but also deep and emotionally engaging in a way that in my opinion mostly resembles classical music. Hey Brad! I remember you saying that you where looking for a good "pop punk" band and I would so love if you could check out "From here to Infimary" by Alkaline Trio. Unlike others pop punk bands it gets rid of all the cringey "college humour" and teen pandering bs for a more dark and "gothic" tone. It combines amazing soulful lyrics with a darker twist to pop punk. It's a classic album when it comes to "goth punk" and pop punk and I would love to know your thoughts on it. I also recommend "Good Morning" and "Is This Thing Cursed" but I feel like anyone who wants a entry point to Alkaline Trio From Here to Infimary is a good starting point. If not yet heard, I def recommend Symbolic, Human, and Individual Thought Patterns - the 3 albums that came out before The Sound of Perseverance, which was their last album. Human is where the prog tendencies really became pronounced and made them a staple band for the genre, plus it has two members from Cynic. I DEF recommend Cynic's first album Focus (prog death/jazz fusion), or their second album Traced in Air (same but slightly more Tool-ish). Death's first few albums were closer to straight-up death metal, but still had a very distinct identity and strong song-writing that they have throughout their discography. One of the few metal bands that has a full discography with no flops.

The electric and acoustic guitar represent different things. The acoustic guitar represents wanting to die, and the electric guitar represents the will to fight for your life. Throughout this song the electric and acoustic guitar are playing over each other, until finally the will to live is gone, and the acoustic guitar ends the song. No matter how much you wish to die, the will to live that is inside of you always fights on, as hard as it may be to carry on living.
