I feel this story, man. My drummer and I connected because of this band. He later became very addicted to pills and I will never forget me holding him in my arms on the floor while he cried due to the pain of withdrawls. Luckily, he eventually recovered and has a life now. It could have easily gone the other way. We played great music together but I am happier seeing him recovered and not playing than seeing him addicted and suffering during our times on stage.

No. Every other album is better. Painkiller is a Judas Priest cover and I don't like Judas Priest at all in my opinion. Scream Bloody Gore, Leprosy, Spiritual Healing, Human, Individual Thought Patterns and Symbolic are better then The Sound of Perseverance only because it was a very modern death metal at the time. Don't get me wrong, I love this album too but not in the same way as the last 6 albums.... that's just me though. Every album Chuck made is a masterpiece but to me The Sound of Perseverance is in last place in my opinion only because of Painkiller which is the only song I never cared form

From what I understand- there was a significant strain on Chuck's vocals, and you can hear the change in them, throughout his entire discography. He did not want to do vocals anymore, because of this, and it's for this reason that 'Control Denied' doesn't have him as their singer.
@leog9637 Жыл бұрын
Actually no, he wanted to sound more grotesque and piercing in line with the lyrics and what he tried to convey: what’s inside of every human. But he also thought that only doing gutural and screams could mean a creative limitation on his exploration in metal. At the end of the day he was an artist.

One band you should do a deep dive on is OG Sepultura from the 80’s all the way to 1991, cause imo, they peaked in that time frame, they changed their sound for the worse in the 90’s becoming more groove metal with tribal elements (reflecting their Brazilian culture) which I appreciate, but for me it just doesn’t work. I do like some of their newer stuff even though most of the original members are ALL gone now.

But Sound… was kind of too much in everything, over-produced, over-thought, too perfect to the extent it lost sincerity, big corporate metal. That Priest cover, that interviews of hard-rock roots… Then I switched to bigger real things that actually were going on (Emperor, Cradle of filth, Dimmu, Immortal, Summoning to name the few - but northern hyperblast of Canada as well).
