Fun fact about the 'almost too intimate' album cover. The photographer was at a house party and randomly snapped it over a hot tub in passing. If I remember correctly it took them forever to even find the girl later on in life.

It does give creepy vibes that they took the pic without permission, esp considering she apparently told him to back off afterwards, but they asked for her permission before using it for the cover and she said yes. she also apparently doesn’t mind it nowadays and actually embraces it! i suppose it’s always good to find the silver lining of an uncomfortable situation

>If I remember correctly it took them forever to even find the girl later on in life. iirc it was like this just for the fans, as the band asked for the proper permission to use the photo and all that. This album is unforgettable, it may be simplistic but i feel like its great because its not entirely nu metal, it has tracks like mascara and be quiet and drive. The instrumental simplicity allows for chino to go wild which is awesome because his vocal style is so uniquely satisfying.

I’m glad you liked this one! It’s one of the few good albums from this bizarre era of metal, and it really stands out in the infinite sea of Limp Bizkits. Deftones are my third favorite band behind Weezer and Radiohead, and ATF is at least in my top 5. This and their debut are the only Deftones albums that can be classified as “nü metal,” everything else is more experimental and veers closer to post-metal and metalgaze (a real genre and it’s great), occasionally sludge. If you liked this, you’ll probably like the rest of their stuff even more.

@I Am In Your Walls. A lot of people compare Deftones to Tool, and I think the reason why is because they both do something similar. Tool basically took the Grunge sound as a core base but wanted to do their own thing with that sound and added a Prog spin to Grunge. Where Deftones took that Nu/Alt Metal core sound but wanted to add their own thing with that sound, and they added a few sounds on top like Trip Hop, Post Hardcore, and Shoegaze to that core Nu/Alt Metal base sound.

@@Maialeen True. I hate labels for these reasons. I know grunge is a movement, but I feel Alice in Chains separated from the pack. Yeah, they were grunge but Layne Staley's voice has so much expansion and variety to it, composed beautifully with Jerry's writing and guitar. Bass was subtle yet added so much. The composing and taking advantage of Layne's unworldly vocals. It wasn't something you labeled. Facelift still gives me chills by how far ahead they were. I know grunge isn't necessarily about sound as it was being a movement but I still think it to be kind of insulting.

@@Maialeen Pandora on Deftones radio was always associated with bands that were common due to association almost alone. Get Tool, Korn, SOAD, I know it's also because they're common to related music interests but Deftones radio is not going to come close to a related station. Unless maybe you get Tool's Undertow with a mix of some around the Fur but even that's kind of stretching it.

So proud I've been a fan of Deftones since 2000. Chino Himself said ATF was his favorite album. Let's get Deftones in The R&R Hall Of Fame. Personally Rank ATF 3rd Favorite From Deftones. That Was Stephen Hitting The Bong.

This wouldn’t have been the Deftones album I’d introduce somebody too. It’s quite good but the more experimental and melodic sound they developed on subsequent albums is a lot better imo. The album id introduce people too would be White Pony. That album basically does what they experimented with on Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away) and takes it to the next level.

I'd probably go with Diamond eyes, its catchy & more accessible, may be easier to digest their sound that way for new listeners. My first was the self titled album, I was only 10, but it was the weirdest & darkest album I'd ever heard, despite being a huge Slipknot & Korn fan already, then I deep dived & they became my favorite band ever since lol
@bisexualmajima
@bisexualmajima Жыл бұрын
Nah this _would_ be the one I'd choose, it's relatively accessible and serves well to help further appreciate them adding those experimental layers and melodic sounds in the future while still being an amazing album and not as forgettable as Adrenaline. I was someone who listened to White Pony first when I was a young teenager and I didn't like it at all, came back to Deftones years later after hearing My Own Summer (and then checked out the rest of Around the Fur) and loved them, and I've seen a fair few other people that White Pony just does not click with as a first foray into Deftones.

This is quintessential deftones tbh Diamond Eyes is an up there album though. They went a bit wobbly around the time of Saturday Night Wrist leading up to Diamond Eyes. Around the Fur is probbaky my favourite Dectones album though. Sonically in particular, it's just amazing.
