I don't know, but guessing, that at this performance in 1996 she knew the odds of having her dreams come true. What a beautiful voice. I seriously suggest you look for everything she did, sadly all of it was released after her death as she was completely unknown outside of Washington D.C. until after she died. One person who DID know of her talents was Mick Fleetwood from Fleetwood Mac who's club she played at regularly. She died about 10 months after this performance.

My Mom loved Eva Cassidy and this song. She passed away from cancer 4.5 years ago, and asked for this to be played at her funeral. This song and the whole album connect me with my Mom and so many happy memories of my time with her, drinving in the car, listening to this music. Incredible the power music has to move us, and connect us to memory and shared moments. Never expected to see you react to this. So cool. Eva was such a wonderful artist, lost to soon. Thank you so much h for doing this reaction. Your words are an homage to a great artist that was virtually unknown until the BBC generated fame for her talent posthumously in the UK which spilled back to the USA. Eva passed @ 10 months after this and a list of other songs were recorded in a Blues Bar I believe in the DC area (possibly Baltimore instead). Quite an interesting backstory to this amazing artist that would be worth your time to explore. We are all fortunate to experience her music. Thank you for sharing it here. Mark

It was "Blues Alley" in DC . I grew up in the suburbs about 25 miles away from this place 😌 It's the nation's oldest jazz club. They've been around since 1965 ❗ Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan, Charlie Byrd, to name a few have played there ❗🙂

That was such a beautiful rendition of this song. So sad that she is no longer with us. She died at only 33 years of age. I also love the version by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. Sadly he also died young at 38 years of age. At least we have their music left as a legacy.

She is so amazing, will not bring myself to say was because she lives in our hearts forever. Too young to be lost to the curse of cancer. In the mid nineties I was walking in a department store, and the radio in this store played a version of imagine from lennon, with a wonderful womans voice. So I hoped that the radio presenter will tell me at the end who this singer is. He did it. So I was hurrying to the CD shop and bought "song birg" from her. A love to her voice begun and never stopped...

Personally, knowing that she died just a few months later, if you look at her gaze throughout it seems like she is contemplating eternity. She may have know something wasn't right in her body, even though the diagnosis came five months later and she was gone four months after that. Eva's covers of Sting's "Fields of Gold" and "Autumn Leaves" are also works of musical art. I hope you'll give them a listen. There are times in our lives when contemplative music is healing to our souls.

All I can say is what a shame that record labels would not embrace everything that she was. She was perfection in a wide array of genres, but they wanted some one that was either this genre or that genre. Millions of music lovers never got to know her while she was here. Such a tragic end to one of the greatest talents that ever lived. Bless her soul for remaining true to herself and not bending to the demands of recording studios, because eventually we are blessed by her many styles through a few recordings performed live. Cancer robbed her and us of true greatness. 28 years later many Reaction videos seem to have blown up KZbin with this sensation of raw talent. God bless you all too for bringing her to us, AMEN and AMEN

P.S. Eva was quite sick with flu symptoms at the time of this performance. Hence, the unexpected slight break in her voice near the end (flu or emotion?). Always self critical, it's been said she was not happy with this near flawless exquisitely beautiful performance. Her arrangement on the guitar is amazing as well. No disrespect to any other artist, this is my favorite version of this song by far. It's as though the lyrics have a different meaning here than anywhere else. Thanks again. Mark
