The best rendition of this song that I have ever heard was also KD Lang but at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games opening ceremonies. This is a must watch/listen. When her vocals kick in for that performance you could physically feel the breath come out of all 60,000 people attending. It was absolutely amazing.

When Leonard Cohan passed away, his wife requested K.D Lang perform this song at his funeral. She was out of the country in Europe, and immediately booked a flight home, sang at his funeral, and took a red eye flight back to Europe to rejoin her tour. Mr. Cohen loved how she performed this song. And his wife knew that. That's why she asked her to sing it at his funeral Best Regards from a Retired Paramedic in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦

@@MarieMooney-s4b Actually, he said that about kd and gave the song to her. At her concerts, everyone backstage would drop what they were doing to come listen to her sing it. They did the same for Crying. My wife did Executive Security out of Portland Oregon and started working with kd in 1999. Her last concert, she worked, was at the Portland Zoo in Aug 2011 right before she moved here. She travelled the West Coast and across Canada for Watershed. kd's Security since 2011 has been my wife's partner, James. As a matter of fact, he flew up to Edmonton this past Sat to surprise kd before she sang Sat night. There's nothing kd cannot sing and she has an incredible voice. There's bootleg out there from the first American leg of the Ingenue Redux tour starting in Seattle (where she was high on cold meds). We were 3rd row Stage Left for the concert in Bethesda at the Strathmore and she spent most of the song on our side. Probably the best I've seen her sing it. She's, unexpectedly, become a very good friend, family and Auntie to our five year old son. My wife turned me on to her music in '07 - I knew who she was before that but was never really into her music. Nevermind the fact she's my Doppelganger but has three inches and five years on me. Oh, and as an FYI? She absolutely *HATES* being called Kathy. She'd occasionally let my wife get away with Kathryn but only her mom, Audrey, was allowed to call her Kathy. She tolerated it from Audrey but just barely.

I am a 79 year old white woman. I had an interesting experience watching you while listening to this. All of a sudden I was aware that we were feeling very similar things in response to it and twice I realized we both took one of those long soulful breaths at the same place in the song. Why is this so noteworthy? I realized we were connected on a very human level and at this moment we were very similar, we were not different. We were not black and white, male or female, old or young, we were divine creations in sync-connected by something bigger than the both of us. Thank You

In my opinion, her absolute best performance of Hallelujah is from the opening ceremonies at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Being Canadian, I treasure that two of the most talented musicians are also Canadian - Leonard Cohen, who I got to see in concert when he was 76 was soooo amazing, and k.d. lang, who is off-the-charts amazing, has been an icon for so many years. I am surprised that you had never heard of her prior to listening to this concert. Believe me, Canadian artists are so underated and are so worthy of a listen. Congratulations for recognizing these talents and showcasing them on your channel. I came across it quite by accident. CHILLS - TREMBLES - GOOSEBUMPS - That's our k.d. singing to us.

He also told Jon Bon Jovi that his cover was the best. I don't know the timing. I love k.d. Lang, and I hated the way country music treated her when she came out as being gay. BUT, I like Jon's cover better, it's a live version before the surgery that messed up his throat. I got mad at him when I learned that he still smoked. All of us '80s kids get passes on some things. We didn't know what smoking did long-term to you back in the day. Our music and our movies are what the new generation is trying to "improve" on. You can't improve on perfection so they need to think up some of their new sh*t. But, he knows what addiction is and cigarettes are an addiction that will kill you. Ask Eddie Van Halen, may he rest in peace, it started with smoking. He should've stopped smoking once we knew it could kill you! He's got enough money for whatever treatment plan was required. But, it's sad to listen to him try to sing their anthem songs. He can't do it anymore. He needs to change the arrangements around to fit this new voice or write new songs. Something has to change. I know it's getting close to the holidays, and the New Year, so he should make a New Year's Resolution to stop smoking and keep it! Maybe the gift he was born with could be returned if the house was finally clean. But, the way he sings it live, gives me chills. You should go look it up.

She was extra cast out when she came out against meat. The province she’s from has a huge beef industry, and she was vocal in being vegetarian (this was in the late 80s I think, and that term covered pretty much all vegan/vegetarianism) and anti-meat production. You would have thought she was the Antichrist. She was just unapologetically herself, and I think she’s amazing.

Yeah, she was WAY ahead of it all--and that was the challenge. The record companies initially knew she was busting with talent but how to market it?! It didn't stop her. Whether it's to 1,000s of people or on top of a soap box on a street corner, only she she knows is that breathing & singing are one in the same for her 🙂 The world is blessed for it. Thx K.D.

How has someone never heard KD Lang? Especially her version of Hallelujah. You should watch the performance she did at the Olympics.

To have that kind of God-given gift to sing like that (and a ton of practice no one else sees), is truly remarkable! I first saw her perform in the mid-1980s and she was, and still is, amazing!

Her duet with Roy Orbison singing Crying is another song you might want to do a reaction to.

I'm nearly deaf. When I was a young woman I was able to hear k d Lang and collected her albums. How I wish I could hear her again, but I'm so grateful that I was able to hear her when I did. She sings like an angel.

I’m staggered beyond belief that anyone in the music industry could not know of K.D. let alone Leonard Cohen. Seriously? Tow of the greatest musicians of our era.

k.d. lang is an icon - so glad you found her, and enjoyed this performance. She mostly sings originals, but I can't recommend highly enough her cover/tribute of Roy Orbison's "Crying". Chills. And her song, "Constant Craving" will forever be one of my favorites. Great reaction - thank you for sharing!
