Someone once said that Judy Garland was singing about Oz, Eva was singing about heaven. Couldn't have said it better.

spadams, hear, hear! There are many singers whose voices I love, but she is the ONLY singer who has ever made me cry literally. And on numerous occasions. My dad -- gone now for a number of years -- loved the song Danny Boy. After he died I would listen to Cassidy singing her stunning version of that great song. If I was listening in the car I'd have to pull over to the side of the road, worried that my weeping would be cause for a car accident.

I was diagnosed with cancer as well as Linda McCartney about the same time. I had just finished battling cancer when it took Linda and Eva. I sob for her every time I hear and see this video. Listen to Eva's "Autumn Leaves" and "Stormy Monday".

Love your reaction! Eva was a tremendous talent that sadly left us far too soon. She passed within a year of this recording. If not for a disc jockey in Britain and her family, she may have passed into obscurity. Thank heavens this performance was recorded and she left a few recordings as her legacy. Beautiful voice. Beautiful soul.

Widely considered as the best cover ever done of this song. Eva is one of the finest singers of all time. She was known as a great blues and jazz singer as well. Check out her catalogue on her KZbin channel. Gone much too soon from melanoma cancer at 34, 10 months after these recordings done live at Blues Alley. Thank you for keeping her special artistry alive and for your reaction.

I learned about Eva from a segment on an old news show a few years after she passed. I believe it was Nightline. It told the story of guy iin Washington DC playing a cassette of Eva singing this in his car as he was taking his BBC Radio DJ friend to the airport and the DJ was so impressed he gave him the cassette. Back in London, he eventually played the song on the radio and requests to replay it were pouring in. It quickly became a top requested song. Fans started clamoring for a video from BBC not knowing she was passed. Her family provided this segment from her live recording at Blues Alley in DC. It became a top requested video of the year in the UK. Record companies pursued her but couldn’t get her to commit to one genre of music. She did jazz, folk, rock, blues and wasn’t willing to limit herself. This recording was done in January 1996. She passed from melanoma in November. She was only 33. After she died, her family compiled all her recordings they could find and released them on albums that became top sellers. The proceeds were donated to music education. I was in Australia in 1999 and record stores had entire end cap displays devoted to her. But she was still virtually unknown in the US. People know her now. I’ve always said they need to make a movie about her.

It is my opinion that she knew she was dying and she was singing about heaven. That is why she sang it so emotionally

Welcome to Eva's world. Eva performed several acoustic songs. As I feel and hear this - her Over The Rainbow - she stands so high above every other person who has tried to cover the song by making it her journey. She takes us, her audience, on her journey as individual confidants. She goes to a place inside that I imagine not many are allowed to view. It took a few times of listening to discover this is a duet. After I got to the acceptance of how pure and heartfelt her singing is, I realized her guitar was her singing partner, singing warmly, in euphonious chorus with her. Her Guild and her touch on its strings are, indeed, her duet partner. No accompanist could have done the same. Nobody will ever be able to reach the depths of my soul such as Eva did with her journey Over The Rainbow.

This is an unbelievably emotive interpretation of Over the Rainbow, especially considering her story. I want to point out her phenomenal guitar artistry - she created this arrangement for both voice and guitar. For another side of Eva, check out her interpretation of Stormy Monday on electric guitar. She kills it.

Judy Garland sung the song from the point of view of the wistful child she played in Wizard of Oz. Eva’s version always feels like a broken adult wishing desperately for a better life, which makes it so much more heartbreaking

Eva does make this her own. Breathtaking. RIP. Israel something I can't remember from Hawaii does a unique version.also very nice.RIP. And the classic Judy Garland from the movie. Lucy Thomas does a beautiful tribute to Eva. Minor changes Lucy style And Lauren Alred does a version where she starts with Israel's version and medolies into Judy's. Very, very good also. And then we have Sydney Christmas who just won one of those competitions singing Lauren's version. In this case it's funny because the show played this when she won the golden buzzer at her tryout. Keep up with the good stuff, thank you.🤠
