I've been following Greta for a while, since before this song broke out for them. Lots of controversy about their sound because of the lead singer's voice sounding a little like Robert Plant at times. But they are solid musicians and their roots are in Blues because their dad performs as well. He has performed with the boys in concert. Three bothers and their best friend is the drummer. Jake, the guitarist, does this well when performing it live.

They sound just as incredible live.. Jake's technique is very reminiscent of the 70's guitar style in bands where there was only one guitarist , bass, drums and vocals. Jake probably layered the guitar in studio just like Brian May from Queen did VERY well, and Very Often. but his style is often a mixture of rhythm and flat picking all at the same time ...very Vintage . I don't give a damn if they sound like Led Zeppelin...this is a much needed breath of fresh air in rock music today .!!

Saw Greta last year at rock werchter festival and they were playing the subheading spot before Muse. Their vocals and instrumentals were tight af, but they weren't ready for that spot on the bill. They had to fill an hour and a half timeslot with 10 songs so they drew all of em out into eternity and the crowd wasn't into it, they were just waiting for Muse so that was a bit of a letdown! Would love to see them again at a more suitable festivalspot or a more intimate setting just to see how they fare then:)

So, I read a little about this group when they first came out. Three brothers and a close family friend (drummer). Singer found his voice one day at a practice session when he had to yell/scream over the band because they were so loud... surprised himself and the band. I also read that during an interview with Robert Plant he was asked What he thought about Greta Van Fleet, I don't know the actual quote, but he said something like the singer has borrowed a voice from someone I know very, very well and yeah I hate him.LOL

Their live stuff is more instrument orientated but I think you'd find that in some of their other songs. All of the band members are given a chance to show off in parts of the set. There are, perhaps, some solos which are too long (2-3 minutes) but everyone in the crowd seems to love it because the lead guitarist and bassist can play their socks off. Vocals hold up too, especially when belting it, I think his voice gets a bit fried at times towards the very edge of his range, but I tend to see them towards the end of a tour. Seen them three times now in London in different sized venues, and I think at a festival (Download?). Hope I get to see them again soon, crowd is always full of leather jacket-ed dads with their sons bridging generations, great vibe.

I was a bit disappointed by their new album (not very adventurous - very template classic rock) but do check out When the Curtain Falls and Lover, Leaver, Taker, Believer from it.
