They are playing big houses, festivals, and have toured around the world. They are touring South America with Metallica in the spring.

I guess you've missed all the controversy around Greta Van Fleet, just because they sound like Led Zeppelin, and even the singer sings like Robert Plant. I like them and we need more bands like them. They released an album last year (2021). Still sounds like the 70's, but they have improved. Their song "Heat Above" is great

completely agree! Robert Plant actually said Led Zeppelin would sound like this if they were making music now, I can't think of higher praise than that!
@scyphe2 жыл бұрын
@@bujfvjg7222 There is the well known short clip on youtube where a snippet of Highway Tune is played to Robert Plant and he's asked what he thinks about it to which he first says: "They are Led Zeppelin 1"..."I hate him" (in a joking manner since Plant can't sing anything like that anymore)..."Yeah, and he borrowed it from 'somebody' I know well"..."He said he based his whole style on Aerosmith [snarks and zzzz sounds]". I do remember when the controversy started and Great Van Fleet repeatedly stated that they weren't that influenced by Led Zeppelin and the vocalist kept saying he didn't try to sound like Robert Plant; it was obviously an attempt to get past that controversy. I think they just stopped answering those questions in the end and the controversy (which lasted quite a long period of time) died off. They're a really talented quarted (well, three of them are brothers with the guitarist and vocalist being twins) and should be viewed as such.

What a lot of people aren’t aware of is Josh vocals) and Jake (lead) were 15 and Sam (bass) and Danny (drums) were 13 so for those who say they wrote like teens was because they were. Josh and Jake are twins, Sam is their younger brother and Danny one of their friends from school and church. They grew up in a rural area outside Frankenmuth, Mi which is a tourist town. They grew up listening to their parents vinyl collection and practiced in the Kiszka’s garage. Josh developed his tone in order to be heard over the volume of the instruments in the garage. They have matured, one a couple of Grammy’s, Elton John and Robert Plant

Fun fact, they are another Lava Records family band (except the drummer) And... I know Edge of darknes is already in the list, you are gonna love it.

Yeah, I remember feeling that they were picked on just to create a "thing" for the music news industry to score cheap points from which inevitably led to millions of nitwits in social media to buy into the whole bullshit thing. Thankfully they survived as a band and their careers are still going strong. Many other bands with weaker foundations would lose to infighting and just quit.

Super talented throw-back band. This was their break through song when they were very much starting out (teens). The insane LZ fan-nutcase blacklash made them change some directions and evolve some. The whole controversy when they released this song as their first single (and later their debut album) was sooo silly. They got hit on their heads with it in every magazine, tons of websites etc. for "ripping off Led Zeppelin". Listening to their first album makes it very clear which their biggest influence was (yeah, the Zep). The guitarist picked up a ton of stylistic tricks and riff techniques from Jimmy Page, the drummer had plenty of Bonzo in his drumming. There's no getting away from the fact that the singe not only borrowed plenty of Robert Plant's riffs and inflections (oh mama etc. etc.), he also happens those high pitched vocals that at times (especially in the studio versions of those early songs) does sound very similar to Robert Plant. Being raised on 70'ies rock'n'roll with Led Zeppelin seemingly being the core (you can do a lot worse than have Led Zeppelin as a guideline). Their songwriting style is ALSO very influenced by Led Zeppelin. Highway Tune is a simple song with a simple structure. What made the song so cool was the really cool riffs on the guitar and bass combined with the energy of the vocalist. The drummer did a good job holding everything down for the rest of the band to stand on. As a rock/metal guitarist myself I'm definitely biased. And I liked it. I've listened to it all and I really like 70'ies heavy rock (as well as metal etc. from the late 70'ies forward). After getting hammered from left and right with the whole "controversy" they did work on finding their own style while still trying to keep their feet in the 70'ies rock feeling. And again, I never ever understood the whole controversy. Yeah, they were really reminiscent of Led Zeppelin at times but the songs were their own. They didn't rip off any song by Led Zeppelin.

Greta Van Fleet is often compared to Led Zeppelin. Jake related that he "... went through a year of really intensely studying what [Jimmy] Page did to the point I knew how he thought." He has also studied other classic rock guitarists in a similar manner, specifically mentioning Pete Townshend. Likewise, on his voice being compared to Robert Plant's, Josh said that Plant has certainly been an influence, "though it's not what I was going for." Stating that he did not even know who Led Zeppelin were until high school, he explained that his singing style came out naturally one day while struggling to be heard over the rest of the band.[56] In a March 2018 interview, Plant said of Greta Van Fleet, "they are Led Zeppelin I" and described Josh as "a beautiful little singer."

I just prefer that masculine deeper tone, growl, tenor and aggression. The few instances where I've connected with a female vocalist were Cranberries, Garbage, and some songs of Alanis and Pretty Reckless.
