I saw Vicente in Denver during one of his last concerts. He sang for 3 hours straight, drinking shots of tequila and gave it everything. He did not need a microphone...his voice was that powerful. Best concert i have ever attended.

I’m 35 now. My first concert was Vicente Fernández when I was 8 years old. I got to see him tour right before he died. He does his thing where he pulls the mic away from him and belts his heart out and you could hear him through the arena. To this day that memory lives and I’m joyful to have witnessed that. As far as his clothing and the hat, it the traditional charro clothing. It originated from the Spaniards in the 1700s and it’s what was worn e or king with livestock and it evolved from then on. If you want to hear another great singer with amazing range recommend Jose Jose.

One of the amazing things about this type of singing is that the singer will almost hold themselves back at the beginning, a gentle start that feels like the calm before the storm. Then once its time to belt it out, it goes STRONG, either as a boom as a sustained note or even as the Grito. The techniques vary with every singer but its fascinating to see how they all follow the pattern

He came to Phoenix a couple of years ago. I was excited to see him too. As a "Gringo"(White Male) who grew up in Albuquerque, NM I knew his music as you'll hear Volver at least once a night at any Karoke event. He was an Actor who was also a gifted singer in his early years and I think he was probably sang until the end of his life. The only Mexican singer I've ever seen; The man brought the house down! He was $hit faced after 3 hours of singing. After about every three songs, he'd take a shot of Tequila! He was incredible! I'm glad I got to see him perform. His music will last forever!❤

Cowboys concept started in Mexico. A Charro is Mexican cowboy that actually started the rodeo tradition how to rope etc. the big hats and the way they’re dressed comes from Spain but changed once it was in Mexico. The big hats are really just supposed to be useful from the hot sun down south, but mariachis are musicians so there Charo outfit is a lot more peacocky then an actual Charro “cowboy” would be because they are just for show back in the day. You would pay a group of mariachis to go serenade your girlfriend at her house.

@DonVon. The hat comes from the hispanic heritage adopted by the natives and new Spain landlords to cover the head during farming and herd cattle. Then the charro outfit was gaining popularity because it was a sign of richness. The complete outfit can be very expensive, with details in gold and or silver handcrafted. A TITANs player honored our culture dressing a "traje de charro" Derrick Henry. You can see the video and pictures.
