The most beautiful thing about this band is their songwriting. The meaning behind this song is the struggle of not giving in to the darker thoughts when the world around you falls apart. Really befits the current situation of our world, with the pandemic and all.

This is MATURE restraint. How many decades has this band been at it? This is ELEGANTLY crafted. Oh, I'm feeling all flattered and charmed now! It's like someone set out to court me in an old fashioned way. This isn't about head banging. It's more " Come sit by the fire where it's cozy and I'll tell you a story" sort of thing. I won't say no if you want to do more from this band.

Sandra, they were formed in 1988. This song was released few months ago from their latest album, Obsidian. I like your illustration, it's how I feel too. The heavy atmospheres used in the music range from romantic to melancholy to furious and then back to romantic/melancholy again.

Growing up in Halifax in the same age bracket as Nick and the lads I have met them several times, seen them live probably a dozen from their tape trading days and always loved them.A great call, rarely done as a band and love their diversity and bravery. Draconian Times is the killer album IMHO and also support the call for My Dying Bride, another local band who are stunning in their miserability! Edit: I also have remembered booking them for £200 to play a Uni Rock Society night I put on in the late 80s when they had just released Lost Paradise.

Paradise Lost. One of my favorite bands. It's awesome that you're willing to hit up the more obscure bands, and not just the generic reaction channel songs/bands. Amorphis started as a Death/Doom band, too. So did Within Temptation... two other bands you've covered (but later in their careers after they've moved on). Paradise Lost moved away from Death/Doom for the entire middle of their career. They only went back to it a few albums ago. The super brief version of their musical history: Death/Doom Metal: Lost Paradise (1990), Gothic (1991), Shades of God (1992), The Plague Within (2015), Medusa (2017), Obsidian (2020 - The song you heard is from this album) Goth Metallica: Icon (1993), Draconian Times (1995), Faith Divides Us (2009), Tragic Idol (2012) Goth Depeche Mode: One Second (1997), Host (1999), Believe in Nothing (2001) Depeche Mode/Metallica: Symbol of Life (2002), Self Titled (2005), In Requiem (2007)

I love the fact that paradise lost has always done their own thing and imho they have never got the flowers and recognition they deserve. Their iconic use of melody is wonderful. I know Im replying to an old video and messages but im sure the people in replying to are still to this day hardore PL fans as i am . I last saw them at sonisphere in a big marquee where the security said they were at capacity and no one else was allowed in. My missus been petite and very well spoken and mannered pleaded with them saying i was a lifelong fan and came specifically to see them ( not true) and they were still hesitant then she said it was also my birthday and it would be ruined if i didn't get to see them. They asked me if it was true and i just nodded and they said go on then After many thanks we got in and i was so glad they were spectacular and it was the best sounding id ever heard them the volume was amazing but the bass was something else and on as i die it felt like I'd gone to heaven. One of the greatest bands to ever come from this country. I loved all there different albums Inc the Depeche mode ones though shades of god is sublime and loads hate believe in nothing but i love it. Though they have done far better stuff such as icon and Draconian time's. But i bought they very first album in my early teens 15 and it hadn't been out long. Loved them ever since. The bands that have been influenced by them must be very many. I reckon Cradle of Filth must of took a bit of inspiration etc from them. Metal forever 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧👍

On of my all time favourite bands. Lost track of how many times I've seen them over the last 25 years. Draconian Time seas the album that introduced them to me. They started off as one of the progenitors of Doom metal in the UK. The others were My Dying Bride and Anathema. In a recent interview Nightwish's Tuomas cited both Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride as influences. PL started off proper doom, then more metal, then decided to have a few albums that displayed their Sisters of Mercy / Depeche Mode influences front and centre, before getting heavier and heavier. Their newest album touches on all parts of their career - songs of every style are to be found. My Dying Bride never changed, they are still proper doom. Anathema metamorphosed into one of the most beautiful prog bands on the planet.

Many very important European bands of the last 25 years are unknown in the USA: Paradise Lost is an example. In the same doom death style, the other fundamental group is My Dying Bride: their albums from the 90s are masterpieces. Listen to The Cry of Manking for example. They are still rotating and have recent news. Merci pour tes vidéos !

Great reaction and well If you want a more Older song .. Try... Paradise Lost - As i Die , it's from the time MTV was about music ... and if you want a more poprock like songs listen to Paradise Lost - Say just words or Paradise Lost - Mouth ... Paradise Lost - Erased and you can hear how versatile this band can play ... Although From their new Album Ghosts would also give you another feeling ... As to me their latest album is all new songs but listens as a greatest hits album ....

Paradise lost hell yeah! This song is for their last album obsidian. This record has the perfect balance between their death doom and gothic rock sound (it has a song that is like a sister of mercy song, its perfect). Now for death doom highligts you could check hooded menace or asphyx, for me the perfect example of the sound of this genre.

Oh, and if you say Paradise Lost, you should also say My Dying Bride. Together with Anathema they were the big three of Death/Doom Metal that days. Anathema nowadays is more rock than metal. MDB is still darker and more doomy than Paradise Lost. You should give it a try. For example MY DYING BRIDE - Your Broken Shore. Fun fact, the Bass Intro of their song A Kiss to remember was the impact for me to start playing bass =)

This song is my favourite of the last year. It's beautiful, harrowing and the lyrics are about not giving in to darker thoughts and emotions which is so relevant during the pandemic the whole world is going through right now. The fact that it has not (as far as i know) been nominated for any awards is a fucking crime.

I would recommend the entire album Draconian Times (their best seller album from 1995), reacting to any of these songs of the album could be great: Forever Failure, Hallowed land or Enchantment. Other great songs are: True belief (Icon 1993), Gothic (Gothic 1991) The song Gothic also has strings, and female vocals, with this album they got fame around the world (except in north america I think), and many bands start imitating the style of this album. But Paradise Lost change their sound with subsequent albums. With the album Icon they had big success, and with Draconian times even more. Then they switch to electronics and pop rock so many metal fans were disappointed at the time (1997). Then in the 2000's very slowly went back to a heavier sound. Finally, their return to death doom in 2015, was welcomed by many old fans like me with the acclaimed album The plague within. Other great songs are: Over the madness, Last regret. I love the solos in these songs.

The band pioneered the Death-Doom genre, then left it. What you hear here has elements of Death-Doom but a much more rounded, cross-genre style than their early-nineties works. I really love this new new album because of the way they have merged all the different genres they have moved through over the years and still managed to make it sound as a natural whole.

Lol! I am here once again asking you to do an analysis of Wolfheart! Some call their style ‘winter metal’ but it’s melodic doom/death metal. Very atmospheric mood setting introductions on their more popular songs; chasm, Routa part 2, the hunt, Valkyrie just because it’s one of my favorites 🤘🏼😁🤘🏼

i'd love to see you reacting to Entombed...clandestine and left hand path are maybe best death metal albums from early years, evilyn was my early teens anthem.

I would love to hear your thoughts on Earthside: "As Close as I've Come," "Mob Mentality," "A Dream in Static," or even "Crater" which is a more straightforward prog metal composition.

Another favorite of mine in this genre is the band Draconian. If you ever want to listen to more like this, I'm going to recommend my personal favorites, being Sorrow of Sophia ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5LUh4RonNurj6c ), Stellar Tombs ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/mILPk6J8q616h5Y ) and Rivers Between Us ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpPZmqp3qqqLp8U ). They also just released a new song today kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5TMoKB_aKpkf5Y

If you liked that kind of stuff you should give Borknagar, especially the newest Album, a shot. My personal favorite so far is "Up North" together with "Voices"

Have you heard *The Warning* ? They are 3 sisters from Mexico, now 20, 18, and 15 years old. Their cover of Metallica’s Enter Sandman went viral in 2014 (21+ million views). They have an EP and 2 indie albums out and just signed a 5-record deal with Lava/Republic. This is Sinister Smiles, from their Queen of the Murder Scene concept album, a girl’s descent into murder and madness: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpmVloxmpcpsjpI
