This was Matt’s big audition for me too. I was so nervous on the day and all it took was that solo to let me know PTX would live on. It was a traumatic time and I remember it well. He has gone on to find his own place in my heart and in the hearts of all Pentaholics. No one will ever replace Avi though. Just as no one would ever replace Matt (or any one of them) if he were to leave. My heart is big enough for all of them, I think. Thanks for posting.

YOU do a really good job of breaking at points in between verses, the breathing points, and you always back up so nothing is missed. my biggest problem with reaction breaks, which are pretty much the point of reaction videos, are reactors that don't seem to have any language and/or musical awareness and stop when something is actually happening, then go on, causing themselves to miss stuff, sometimes the best stuff!

He is different than Avi, for sure, and I don’t really compare them. They are like separate chapters of the same book (if that makes sense). Works with the whole, but differently. Penta as in pentagon, pentagram, pentathlon. Pentatonic scale is a five tone scale, there are 5 members and they changed the 'c' at the end to an 'x' as a 'new wave' sort of vibe. When the bass singer is singing, Scott takes over on bass background. They work so well together to bring that wall of sound, so full and clean or to draw a specific element in moving the soul. They can grab you and bring you in! Great reaction.

Yeah, Matt was a great pick. They knew trying to get someone to straight-up 'replace' Avi (i.e. in the sense of trying to be 'just like' him,) could never work, so they played it smart and got a bass singer who could bring his own, unique 'thing' to the table, so that any comparison fell out of the equation. (Fun fact: Avi actually helped them pick Matt before he left.) To get a good feel for the new energy Matt brings to the group, a good one to listen to is their cover of 'You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch' - Matt does the lead on that one, and he totally OWNS it. His bass also shines in 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight,' 'Havana,' 'Amazing Grace,' and their latest (original!) one 'Coffee In Bed.'

They all do side projects of some sort. Matt's are with his church group. He is on a gospel album they released last year. One song I've recently found is Scott and Mario Jose singing "Lost on You". The most emotion I've ever seen Scott display.

Much like Avi, Matt is a lyric bass. That means that his actual range goes beyond his nominal range (for reference, Scott is a lyric baritone, with his range extending into both the bass and the tenor ranges). Avi is a true basso profundo, in the lowest bass range - the kind of bass whose voice can blow out speakers in live performances, yet his upper register extends a long way into the baritone range. When Matt first joined Pentatonix his range was smaller than Avi's (based on his solos, which must have been arranged specifically for him, to take best advantage of his voice). The first live performance of "Hallelujah" that I encountered after Matt joined had Scott singing both the first *and* second verses - Matt didn't solo at all, to my great disappointment. I knew he could do it - why weren't they letting him? Then I heard a later live performance of "Hallelujah," and I understood. This time Matt *did* take the second verse, but the arrangement was different than what Avi sang. That arrangement must have been written specifically for *Avi's* voice, and while Matt was *capable* of singing it, PTX didn't want him to be stuck with a hand-me-down arrangement on one of their signature songs. So they had him hold back until they could write a good arrangement just for him. Then I attended the Pentatonix concert in Denver on November 20, 2022. They sang "Hallelujah" early in the concert, when their voices were fresh, and Matt's solo just blew me away. It was a new arrangement, for starters, not the one I'd heard before, which means that there'd been some change in Matt's voice that PTX wanted to highlight and take advantage of, and it didn't take me long to realize what the change was. I don't have a trained ear, but I would *swear* that Matt's lowest note was as low as I ever heard from Avi, which makes Matt a true basso profundo as well, and his highest note was in the *tenor* range! Now, can Matt do overtone singing? Not that I've heard, though I'm sure he could learn it if he wanted to, but why should he? He isn't there to be Avi-light; he's there to be Matt, and Matt has a beautiful voice and (assuming that my observations are correct) a *greater* range than Avi. And his voice makes me think of a cozy blanket on a cold night, and chocolate. In short, Matt is spectacular.

Paul Simon said that the pentatonix version is one of the best covers. It's not pentatonix that is blocking you, it's the record label. Pentatonix fights with them all the time. @@spgreacts4507 pretty much, at least for me, pentatonix has achieved what weird Al did. You knew that you had made it in the music world if he parodied your song. Now, they cover a song, and make it better. Personally, I prefer their covers over the originals. By that I mean the original singers. I love most of pentatonix's originals. This past Christmas a lot of reactors were saying that they didn't like specific Christmas songs. Can't really blame them. Then they decided to listen to the PTX version. Almost every one of them said that the only version they would listen to is the PTX version. Don't believe it, try the 12 days of Christmas. Which is from their 6th Christmas album, and they put it together in 3 weeks. Mind blown yet? Enjoy. Us pentaholics will just sit back, and enjoy the show.

It is amazing how eclectic people's tastes actually are, and how often they ignore that🙄. I've always said that my playlist covered everything, just with very little rap and Country😉. However, over the last year-and-a-half, thanks to The Lyricist that are popping up, rap has started to take over my playlist🤷‍♀️. Along with that came some country rap which led into more country(okay mainly Church and the crew😜)
