Now you have done it without realizing how your channel will GROW with views, Comments and Subs. The Pentaholics will find you and guide you through this large rabbit hole you have discovered. Alan-Freeman comment will give you details about the group if interested. Suggestions for a band that does world tours with hundreds of covers and original songs. RAP -- "Can't Hold Us" but lines are changed to reflect each of them. The base then was Avi Kaplan 2011-2017 and Matt replaced him as the new Base. This was the first Official video with Matt, hence he wears the white jacket to "stand out" but PTX has always allowed each member to shine with their individual talents. Plus they each have their own side projects. Beatboxing suprise with Kevin's arraignment of "O Come All Ye Faithfull" will change your mind about the original song. They are not any one genre, but started with Christmas because people know the songs and most are public domain and free to record. Kevin has his own channel and a 17 minute performance called Kevin's 5th during their concerts.

I’ll leave it to others to give you a detailed history of Pentatonix, but they have been a band for 13 years, have 3 Grammys (and 2 additional nominations), a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and a catalogue of well over 200 songs, both covers and originals. They have done almost all music genres. Only 1 member has changed in the 13 years. Their original bass left in 2017 and was replaced by the singer on the far left in this video. Members L to R in this video are Matt Sallee (bass), Kirstin Maldonado (alto-soprano), Scott Hoying (baritone), Mitch Grassi (tenor), and Kevin Olushola (beat boxer and tenor). All of them have close to 6 octave ranges.

This statement is truer than most Pentaholics realize. Their music is incredibly complex using suspensions, hemiolas, 7th chords, supertonics (where tonics are expected) and dissonant harmonies, something I don’t hear much of in other A Capella groups. They do VERY risky arrangements and make them work through their professionalism and ability to listen to each other while singing.

Pentatonix!!! Here we go! The Sound of Silence is a kind of prostest about how people hear and don't listen. Simon and Garfunkel were my faves as a teen as their songs made me think deeply. Pentatonix is great at capturing the perfect mood with their incredible voices. Pick one of their songs. You can't go wrong.

they recently covered seal's 'kiss from a rose' done live in the vevo studio that will show how they've honed their skills over the years. they have great original music too like 'happy now', 'anchor', 'sing' [from their early days]. they can rap, sing in other languages, duet with a variety of other singers. they make you feel things; they really got me through the pandemic.

They have done well over 200 songs, some covers (we call upgrades), as well as original songs. You can't go wrong with any of their videos. They don't just perform music, they become the music. They have serious, happy, fun, spiritual, theatrical, etc.... every vibe you can think of. Start with their older videos. They were insanely good when they started, it's fun to watch their changes in music as they mature. Going down the PTX rabbit hole has been an amazing journey, we love to see others getting mind blown. I am a Pentaholic, it will happen to you too. :)

I've been a subscriber for awhile, but this just popped up today! I'm also a devoted follower of Pentatonix. I love how you just stared at the beginning of the video...they are amazing. I can see others have commented on Paul Simon and his great talent. Being and "older person", this was on the soundtrack on my life! In the 60s, a lot of songs had a "protest" kind of feel to them. It could be the way Pentatonix sang it that made you feel "in church!" They will take you to "church" on a lot of songs! They built their following on putting out a Christmas album every year! They also have original music and have done rap, of a sort. The did Macklemore and Lewis' "Can't Hold Us" which is a lot of fun (they changed up a few lyrics) I see you were wanting 3K subscribers and you're now almost at 7K. That's what happens when you react to Pentatonix!! LOL You are a different reactor because you actually review the lyrics, and I like that. It makes you really think about things. You have a lot of videos to choose from for Pentatonix, for sure. Have fun!!

“Sounds of Silence” is not a church song. I am a 60s child, I was 17 when this song came out on the radio and I immediately learned to play and sing it. It is a song about how shallow most of our communications are (people talking without speaking, people hearing without listening) and tries to address the deeper parts of ourselves that we try and hide from one another. Paul Simon, the author, is a fantastic songwriter and has twice been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and has 16 (yes, sixteen!) Grammy Awards to his credit including 3 for Album of the Year. Other songs Pentatonix performs spectacularly and DO have a religious bent to them are “Amazing Grace” and “The Prayer”, both performances that will knock your socks off. “Hallelujah” is NOT a religious song, it is a song about failed relationships and Leonard Cohen (who wrote the piece) uses a couple of biblical references to help make his point. For something upbeat that displays Pentatonix’s crazy abilities take a look at “Daft Punk” (Grammy winner), “90s Dance Medley”, “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Can’t Hold Us” (they Rap in this one). Pentatonix is famous for adding their unique twists to their covers and you can’t go wrong no matter what you choose. Enjoyed your reaction, I’m a confirmed Pentaholic, have Liked and Subscribed to your channel and look forward to more of your reactions to them.

Sound Of Silence is a classic by Simon and Garfunkel. It has been endlessly interpreted and covered but leave it to Pentatonix to upgrade it. Since you're into analyzing lyrics take a shot at PTX's Can't Hold Us, Come Along, White Winter Hymnal, Be My Eyes, and Prayers For This World. If you want to take a break and just sit back to listen to some music there's Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy - a song without words sung by a group without instruments. On the other hand, if you want the analytics portion of your brain permanently scrambled there's Daft Punk, La La Latch and 90's Dance Medley.

This song was written by one our greatest poets who writes songs. Many song writers cannot be called true poets. Paul Simon IS a GREAT POET. So when you miss read his words...pardon me...but I groan. "People writing songs that voices never 'shared'. No one 'dared' disturb the sound of silence". Notice "shared" & "dared rhyme. "Sang" & "dared" do not. This song is about the signs of our times. Example: "And the sign said the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls..." might mean graffiti artists? It also bemoans the fact that people can see all the ways things are going south but don't speak up or do anything about it. Glad you appreciate this beautifully constructed song. PTX have so many amazing songs for you to discover. But I slso hope you will check out many more Paul Simon songs. SIMON & GARFUNKLE were a VERY popular duo in the 1970s. May I suggest listening to the official studio recordings of "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "The Boxer", & "America".

The Sound of Silence was originally released in 1965 by Simon and Garfunkel. The original is a very stripped down version but it is beautiful too. S&G broke up in 1970 but managed to produce the best selling album, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, before that happened. Paul Simon is a phenomenal song writer who went on to have a huge solo career. Sixteen Grammy awards including three for album of the year. If you love lyrics, he’s your guy. He’s 82 now but still performs a bit. I’m a certified Pentaholic. 😂 Been a big fan since 2011, when they won a short lived series called The Sing Off. I see others have given you the information on the group’s history, likelihood your videos will get blocked and just how phenomenal they are as artists. Pentatonix (PTX) will blow your mind with their sound. From the early days, when they made their videos on a couch to becoming world wide, multi platinum Grammy winning artists with over 20 million KZbin subscribers and over 5 billion views on their videos, they are the real deal. There are over 200 videos of them out there. If you want to get a better sense of their process, check out their mini documentary of the recording of the album Evergreen. They range from really fun material like Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore and Lewis, Sing (one of their originals), Daft Punk Medley to incredibly beautiful serious ones like Hallelujah, The Prayer, Mary Did You Know, Run to You. They’ve focused a lot on Christmas music and done incredibly creative and beautiful upgrades of most Christmas songs. They tour frequently, do a lot of TV (they were part of the opening act on the 2024 Grammy’s) and collaborate/record with other best selling artists. There are some excellent live recordings of their tours. Pop Spring 2016 is a great early show case. Hollywood Bowl 2022 and the Christmas 2023 Livestream are amazing. If you doubt their skills, there are videos where they are just standing in rooms with no mics killing it. The Daft Punk medley in a back room somewhere is particularly impressive. I hope you do more PTX reactions. I’m subbing for them and enjoy the ride.

There are 3 A Capella groups that I say are equal and are the best out there. 1) Pentatonix, who won the third season of a singing competition called The Sing Off. 2) Home Free, who won the 4th season of The Sing Off. 3) Voice Play who most members (and they change members often) have backgrounds with Disney so they are very theatrical. All three are absolutely fantastic A Capella groups. I do not favor one of the other. I listen to them all with equal praise.

If you really want to focus on lyrics, I would recommend their originals. Almost anything from their 2021 album "The Lucky Ones" is great. Not all of them have videos, some are just visualizers. There are a few that have live performances. Three that I love for the lyrics are the title song The Lucky Ones (a look back at their history as a group), Never Gonna Cry Again, and Anchor. But you really can't go wrong with any song from that album. They have said that they worked hard on that album to be very open and vulnerable and write from their own experiences. If you want to see them rap, I'd recommend Can't Sleep Love (the 2016 PopSpring live performance, 2nd song on that video), cover of Ariana Grande's Problem (official video or live performance in the studio at 3FM Dutch radio station), Can't Hold Us, Sing (original), Starships cover, or delve into Superfruit (a side project and separate channel of Mitch and Scott from Pentatonix). Superfruit did a cover of Feeling Myself, as well as 2 editions of "Hip Hop Goes Broadway" where the do snipits of various songs in a Broadway style. Always stay after the "subscribe" screen for bloopers.

He was pre-med, he speaks like 7 languages including Mandarin, he is a world class cello player and invented celloboxing which is how the trio (the center 3 in this video) found him. He also can sing and is the only member of this amazing group who has perfect pitch. I highly recommend checking out his cover of "down" where he is on his own doing all of the parts by looping. As other reactor have said, this is a folk-rock song written by Paul Simon back in the 1960's. It's poetry, so you can interpret it the way you feel it. If you haven't heard it, you should check out the version by Disturbed's lead singer David Draiman; his interpretation is more angry. And of course, listen to the original by Simon and Garfunkel.

Subscribed. If you decide to continue down this rabbit hole you can expect a LOT of new subscriptions; #Pentatonix fans are enthusiastic about reaction videos to anything our favorite band puts out. Some useful terminology: • pentaholic = Pentatonix fan • PTX = abbreviation for Pentatonix - extremely useful in searches • the trio = Kirstin, Mitch, and Scott • Mitch slap = what you get the first time you realize how incredible Mitch's voice is. • Avi-lanche = like a Mitch slap, except with Avi instead of Mitch. • KO = like a Mitch slap or Avi-lanche, except with Kevin Olusola. (Note: You never become immune to Mitch slaps, Avi-lanches, KOs, or the similar things that Kirstin, Scott, and Matt do. They always have the ability to surprise us.) You can't go wrong listening to anything Pentatonix has released; it's all gorgeous. But all pentaholics have our own personal favorites that we like to recommend. These are some of my favorites: • "Hallelujah" (the official video, with Avi) • "Hallelujah" ( a recent live performance, with Matt: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKLTmZuGltWepcUsi=tC6Ew07JGeQKQvDL ) • "Imagine" (the official video) • "The Prayer" • "Bohemian Rhapsody" (the official video) • "Run To You" (an original, written by Avi and Kevin; the official video is the best rendition available) • "Happy Now" (another original, look for the official video) • "Daft Punk Medley" (their first Grammy winner) • "O Come All Ye Faithful" • "O Holy Night" (they did a totally new recording for their 2023 Christmas album; you can find the official video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJatcohoor2gbtksi=upj2Q3vLqigVEtgm ) • "Pure Imagination / Christmas Time is Here" (preferably the live Vevo recording) • "Kiss From a Rose" (preferably the live Vevo recording - both of the Vevo recordings are available on KZbin) • "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" • "The Lucky Ones" (an original, written by Scott) • "Thank You" (an original, written by Scott and his then fiancé, now husband, Mark Manio Hoying, shortly after the end of COVID lockdown, about how much easier it was to get through that time because they were together) • "The Kevin Show/Kevin's Fifth." This is a live feed from a concert they gave in Owensboro, Kentucky, Kevin's home town: kzbin.info/www/bejne/epOmkqasmLOrbZo and this is the very special performance of "Kevin's Fifth" (without "The Kevin Show") from Kevin's birthday in 2022: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZ6TmGquic18jdUsi=99F7iG5qkdgPCm43 Additionally, IF you're familiar with _"The Wizard Of Oz"_ (the 1939 movie starring Judy Garland), I recommend "Todrick Hall - The Wizard of Ahhhs (ft. Pentatonix)": kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5y5ln6YZ86aqMk If you've never seen the movie it won't make sense, so take care of that first. One advantage to reacting to "The Wizard of Ahhhs" is that you won't need to obscure the video to avoid copyright claims. Most of Pentatonix's copyrights are owned by their publisher, RCA, and RCA is notorious for getting reaction videos taken down over copyright issues, but the copyrights for "The Wizard of Ahhhs" are owned by Todrick Hall, and Todrick seems to be more interested in good publicity than in stomping on innocent reactors. (I regret to say that Todrick has gotten a lot of bad publicity in recent years, for very good reasons; he appears to be something of a jerk. But making copyright claims against other KZbinrs isn't one of his vices.)

The members of #Pentatonix. In this song: • First verse, tall blond guy: Scott Hoying, lyric baritone. In describing a man's vocal range, "lyric" means that the actual range exceeds the nominal range. In Scott's case, he sings everywhere from about the middle of a normal bass range through a normal tenor range, with an excellent falsetto on top. In live performances Scott typically takes over the bass harmony line when their bass has a solo. • Second verse, dark haired guy next to Scott: Mitch Grassi (pronounced Grah'-see, emphasis on the first syllable), contratenor. Mitch has a range of just over 6 octaves, but he's most comfortable in his higher registers. He switches between chest voice, mixed voice, and head voice seamlessly, and is known for his ethereal high solos. Everyone in Pentatonix says he has the best voice of any of them. • Third verse, black guy in a white jacket on the far left: Matt Sallee (pronounced Suh-lee', emphasis on the second syllable), lyric bass. It's hard to be sure just what Matt's range is, because it's still growing. To find his current range I recommend listening to a live stream of "Hallelujah" from their most recent world tour, though you may want to watch their official video of "Hallelujah" first so you can hear what it sounded like with their original bass, Avi Kaplan, who left Pentatonix in 2017 for personal reasons. You can find the recording with Matt here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKLTmZuGltWepcUsi=tC6Ew07JGeQKQvDL Matt's arrangement of the second verse seems to be designed to show off his full range, which is fantastic. His lowest notes don't blow out speakers the way Avi's have done (though they may within a year or two), but on the high end he's very close to the top of a normal tenor range. • Fourth verse, the only woman in Pentatonix: Kirstin (also called Kirstie, which rhymes with thirsty) Maldonado, alto and soprano. Kirstin sings anywhere from a low alto (though not contralto, which is the female equivalent of baritone) through coloratura soprano, the highest female range. And she has whistle notes on top of that which are off the charts. Lately Pentatonix has begun referring to her as an "alto soprano." • The fifth member of Pentatonix is the black guy on the right: Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth syllable), beatboxer extraordinaire. Somewhere there may be a better beatboxer than Kevin, but if so I've never encountered him or her. Kevin is generally too busy being the entire percussion section to sing, but when he does sing he has a lovely tenor voice that occasionally dips into the uppermost reaches of baritone, and he's known for the beauty of his falsetto. He's also a pretty good rapper. Kevin has perfect pitch. He began piano lessons at age 4, cello at age 6, and alto saxophone at age 10. He beatboxes while playing the cello, a technique he calls "celloboxing." He performed at Carnegie Hall twice when he was a teenager, once on the cello and once on the saxophone. He graduated from Yale in 2011 with a pre-med major and had been accepted to Yale Medical School before he decided to become a professional beatboxer instead of a brilliant surgeon. He speaks five languages fluently: English, French, Spanish, German, and Mandarin Chinese. He's one of the kindest people in the world, and when he laughs he makes the whole planet seem like a brighter place. Matt joined Pentatonix in late 2017 or early 2018 (depending on how you figure it), after their original bass left the group for personal reasons in 2017; he has now been with Pentatonix longer than their original bass was. Which brings us to the one member of Pentatonix who doesn't appear in this video: • Bearded white guy who usually wore a beanie or stocking cap: Avi (pronounced Ah'-vee, emphasis on the first syllable) Kaplan, lyric bass. Avi is an operatically trained basso profundo - his lowest notes have blown out speakers in live performances - but his range extends upward to about the middle of the tenor range. Since leaving Pentatonix Avi has gone on to have an extremely successful solo career; I highly recommend subscribing to his KZbin channel, which you can find here: youtube.com/@AviKaplanMusic The appearance of Mitch and Kirstin tends to vary greatly from one video to another, so people will frequently think they see someone new in Pentatonix when it's really Kirstin or Mitch. With these two, go by their voices, not their appearance; their voices don't lie. To be clear: Avi is the ONLY member who's left Pentatonix and Matt is the ONLY member who joined later.

I guess it depends if you want to hear more of their singing/performing ability or their songwriting. They have massive catalogue, mostly covers but they do have a couple of albums worth of their own material. And on top of that, there is some solo stuff (Scott - the blond guy who opened - especially, has a good amount of solo stuff now), and Scott and Mitch (the dark haired guy next to Scott) used to have a channel together "SuperFruit", while not a music channel they would sometimes sing covers/medleys, they also produced an album of originals called Future Friends, and finally Mitch has some solo stuff that is very different from the rest of their stuff under the name Messer (though I believe there is also a band by that name, I think searching under Mitch Grassi still brings it up, it used to anyway). So, their first grammy was a "Daft Punk" medley, highly recommended; Gold is vocally impressive and was recorded live; they have a handful of Evolution of__ medleys which are a lot of fun, but probably not great if your angle is analysing lyrics; Hallelujah is always a winner...so is Bohemian Rhapsody, and; finally if you want to hear some awesome vocals while analysing John Lennon lyrics, then Imagine. And if you want to hear some of them rap, I suggest their cover of Can't Hold us. However, if you are looking for things they wrote themselves: Love Again - has a similar EDM vibe as Daft Punk. Run To You - A 5-part harmony they wrote (with the original bass, Avi), which is slow and stripped back. Sing - really upbeat, makes you just want to dance and sing along lol. Happy Now - pretty upbeat in tempo, the lyrics might seem a little at odds with that at first, I guess. Coffee In Bed - gives me warm fuzzies Love Me When I Don't - idk how to classify it, it's a sweet song, imo. Not that slow, but also not very upbeat. The full Popspring 2016 live concert has 3 great originals (Cracked, Can't Sleep Love, and Water) and their Evolution of Michael Jackson.

The lyrics: [Verse 1] Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains within the sound of silence [Verse 2] In restless dreams, I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night, and touched the sound of silence [Verse 3] And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never shared And no one dared disturb the sound of silence [Verse 4] "Fools," said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words, like silent raindrops, fell And echoed in the wells of silence [Verse 5] And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls And whispered in the sound of silence" Source: genius.com/Simon-and-garfunkel-the-sound-of-silence-lyrics Many people think the song describes the aftermath of a nuclear war, but according to Paul Simon, who wrote it, it's about people's inability to communicate.

@@DeliaDevlin-eu6oj yeah, I love learning about music it’s development as an art itself in different genres, and also learning about the cultural shifts and things like that that iconic bands and producers have made over the years. I love that stuff. That definitely sounds fun ha ha Rap through the decades, passion project Thank you so much for watching. I’ll definitely stay open minded I’ll look around and see if there’s any music from those areas. That doubt does well cause unfortunately some of the greatest artists don’t really get views on reactions you have to like find the certain ones that people want to watch at least when you’re my level. It’s definitely a juggle challenge and an adventure lol Much love thank you so much for watching

I fear that this reaction may not be up for long due to copyright claims. #Pentatonix loves KZbin reactions and reactors; they're well aware that reaction videos have helped to make them the success that they are today. Unfortunately, their copyrights are owned by their publisher, RCA, and RCA doesn't share their love of reaction videos. RCA is notorious for making copyright claims that get reaction videos taken down. The claims all seem to be about the video, not the music, and there are several strategies people use to keep their reactions up. Some people only react to live performances. This works, but it's limiting. In general, Pentatonix is as good live as they are in their official releases, but that's musically; there are a few of their official videos that have important video effects that can't be duplicated live. The most obvious one is "Imagine," but several others spring to mind. Also, if you only react to live performances you can't react to any "Behind the Scenes" or "Making of" videos. Another strategy is to pause the video frequently. This is probably a good idea (be sure to rewind a bit whenever you do this), but the definition of "frequent" is subjective so I don't recommend it as your only protection. What seems to work best is to slightly mask the video, combined with frequent pauses. Some people put a translucent "PENTATONIX" or "COPYRIGHT" over the video; others put what appears to be a window with raindrops on it over the video. Or, you can make the official video slightly transparent, so we can see through it to you and your environment. Remember, the pentaholics are here to see your reaction, not the video - we've seen the video numerous times already. We only need to be able to see enough of it to be sure what exactly you're reacting to, in real time.

'The Sound of Silence' was originally written and performed by Simon and Garfunkel in the 70's (I think) I read somewhere fairly recently that it was written due to one of the guys having a friend in college that was blind, this friend would say 'Hello Silence my old Friend' the other major cover of this song was performed by Disturbed, each version has a very different feel and take on the song. As most or all Pentaholics will say that PTX DON'T DO COVERS they DO UPGRADES, and there is not one bad one amongst them. Pentatonix's Originals are just as good if not better, If you want to experience where they came from then go back to 'The Sing-Off Season 3, in 2011' and watch their run on that, otherwise go with the suggestions by the Pentaholics we won't lead you wrong. Other than that sit back and enjoy the joy that is Pentatonix

Okay, let me see if I can break things down for you. First off, YES, this is a cover. Pentatonix is covering an old Simon and Garfunkel song, the Sound of Silence. Pentatonix has been around now for over 10 years. They got their start on an old show called the Sing Off. They were the Season 3 winners. They do a lot of covers, but they also have some originals too. Break down on this group. Matt, the guy far left, is the base. Kirsty is a mezzo soprano, Scott the one that started the song off, in the middle is a baritone, and a lot of times he sings the lead, but not always. Mitch, the 4th man, is a high tenor, I think also called a soprano tenor. He's got CRAZY range. Lastly is Kevin, the beatboxer, and no, he's not JUST a beat boxer, though that is his primary function in the group. He's also a tenor with a beautiful voice, AND he plays the cello, as well. They have a LOT of videos out there. Some I would recommend: Bohemian Rhapsody, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies (for which they won their 2nd grammy), Daft Punk (their 1st Grammy), Cheerleader (one of their originals, I believe), Sing (an original) would get you started down this rabbit hole. One last thing... if you start reacting to Pentatonix... trust me, the following WILL COME. We Pentaholics (which is what we fans call ourselves) LOVE seeing people react to Pentatonix... especially for the first time!

From their newest album listen to Happy Now, and Be My Eyes. For a Christmas listen or two, Thank You and Evergreen.

Most people look at it this way, the original by Simon and Garfunkel was a warning about our inability to communicate. Disturbs cover which I guess you haven't seen yet is the rage in that we have not yet learned the lesson presented to us in 1964 by Simon and Garfunkel. I prefer the official music video for Disturbed's cover because it visually shows what the lyrics are saying and gives a whole other layer to the song. Pentatonix cover is in the middle expressing hope that we will learn the lesson the other acapella groups home free voice play and the bass gang all have extremely loyal and passionate fan bases. We are a wealth of information about the bands we follow. Wherever our group shows up on KZbin We will follow simply said keep going down rabbit holes of each of these groups and the fans will flock to you. We love to watch reactors not only discover a cappella the way it's done now but to also discover these immensely talented artists. I know several channels that was built on the back of these acapella groups

For a recommendation for Pentatonix (PTX): "Bohemian Rhapsody" - the original written by Freddy Mercury of Queen in the mid '70s, who said, "Do anything you want with my music, just don't make it boring!"; "Hallelujah" - the original written by Leonard Cohen in the mid '80s, he supposedly wrote over 80 verses for the song through the years, but only a half-dozen or so are used regularly - and it's not a religious song, no matter what the name or lyrics seem to imply; and an odd one, "Come Along" - the original written by Cosmo Shelldrake, and no one seems to know exactly what the lyrics mean!

Man, I have hit the jackpot! I studied music (vocal and brass) in college. One of my big pet peeves is bad lyrics. There is a book that is for people wanting to write a book. It’s called, “It was Dark and Stormy Night.” It gives you the 100 phrases you should never use in writing, they are so cliche like the title suggests. There should be one for lyrics. If they at least read that book they would be better off. The lyrics to this song are original and unexpected, compared to “I love you, do you still love me? I hope some day you will see.” I will run away from those lyrics faster than a ho in church. This group does covers but all with their own twists and style. You should try Hallelujah, and them for something totally different, try “Daft Punk Medley.” With both of these, you will first have your first “Mitch-slap!” Mitch is the brown haired guy and is a counter-tenor. The lyrics for Daft Punk sucks but their performance is amazing. You will get to see what Kevin, the beat boxer can do. FYI, Kevin is also a tenor. You will get to hear the original bass singer, Avi. No one can touch him. Period. When he has the melody, the tall blonde guy takes over the bass since he is a Baritone. Then you need to hear them do Queen”s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Yet another Mitch-slap. If you continue with Pentatonix, you will get a “Pentaholics” following, like me! Kirstin, Mitch and the tall guy went to Martin HS in Arlington, Texas. (In the middle between Dallas and Ft. Worth. Glad I found you and look forward to more Pentatonix reactions!
