I was just a little girl the first time I heard SoundGarden from the Black Hole Sun music video and it stopped me in my tracks. Chris Cornell, even in death remains my all time favorite vocalist, whether it's in SoundGarden, AudioSlave or his solo work. His voice consistently gives me goosebumps and no one else does that to me. If you're in the mood to "feel" the grief you're in and then find the strength to want to push forward, might I recommend AudioSlave's I Am The Highway? If I am down it lets me feel where I am at and then gives me the push to keep going. Just because now I am on the Chris Cornell kick. Love your reactions. Tell Charlie we're all rooting for him.

Soundgarden helped me feel like I wasn't alone in the 90s. I felt rage, calm and like I could have wrote the lyrics myself they resonated so much. Good lyricists write songs that can appeal to whatever you are going through and be about whatever you want them to. The name Tool comes from Maynard saying the band are a crutch and they want to be our tool to help us get through this life in whatever way we need them too. My help came from Soundgarden - blow up the outside world. Tool- the grudge and Chris Cornell- end of the world. Chin up boys, we are all with you ❤️

The fantastic thing about the grunge era for me, each of the great bands brought something quite different to the party, despite being lumped in together. Pretty much all had amazing singers, though quite different in their own rights. Soundgarden? A pinch of Sabbath, with Robert Plant vocals and wild guitar solos. Pearl Jam? Classic American rock, Hendrix style solos. Nirvana? Punk energy, often monster drums. Smashing Pumpkins? Queen bombasity mixed with elements of prog rock. Everyone had their favourites, but you could all enjoy the others too. Not like the "Disco Sucks" or "Rap is Crap" generations, we were all in it together. We inhaled everything good no matter where it came from.

So many of my idols are dead now, not tragically, just ODing or suiciding - Chris Cornell punching his ticket was the day my youth finally disappeared in the rearview mirror; that one hit me the hardest, because I thought he'd made it through where so many others fell off. That grunge shit wasn't a sham, you'd think these dudes would've been on top of the world, but they weren't. You can have millions of $ in the bank, and just as many adoring groupies ready to crawl over broken glass just to fulfill your every desire, but still heedlessly hurl yourself into the void. So what can I can I tell you? I don't know what's going on with you, and if I did I doubt I'd be capable of giving you any real comfort - that's just how it is, and how it should be, it's a journey for you. Such is life. We're all alone out here, but we'll all be together again - you know that. I'm not churchy, but I have faith ... in what? I'm not too sure, there's just a spark I hold, and that's enough. Life is cruel and the world is cold, if you let it be, but it needn't be so. Try: Radiohead, Paranoid Android. But I dunno if music should be indulgent anymore - I have a fondness when I'm sad for stuff that just turns my brain off altogether, like some ultraviolent jungle: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4bGpol_dtxgpq8

The album version is just as good, but the music video version is solid. The live versions of this track is great too. Chris Cornell was a great song writer and voice. One of those rare ones that could convey the deepest emotions lyrically , musically and vocally. This track in particularly really conveys depression perfectly. One of the few songs in any genre that just gets it. Always enjoy your buds as a comic fan and music fan.

This song will not carry you through or lift you up, since it is about Chris Cornell describing what it is like to wake up and realize you are in a deep depression. Although he is a vocal genius, he sings about depression, waiting to die, etc, and in fact he took his own life. But I understand why you didnt get what you were looking for in this song.
