This song came out around 1990. We were so lucky to have real musicians and real talent. Just 3 notes of this song and everyone was up on the dance floor shaking that thang. This song and MC Hammer U Can't Touch This, were just iconic songs and good times.

Rap in the 90’s back when rappers actually used real words and 3 or 4 FULL verses in every song. Today they have an 8 bar first verse, then just a 4 bar second verse and play the hook 3 times to end the song.

The younger generation nowadays don't understand how it was back then. When a song goes #1 on iTunes or whatever now, it's very selective. When a song was #1 in the eighties and nineties, EVERYONE was listening to it. This song was no exception. We all listened to it. And we all still know the lyrics. It was everywhere. And it was, and still is... Awesome.

He took the bass riff from Queen’s collaboration with David Bowie “Under Pressure” for this… it turned into a big court case in which he tried to claim it was his own and “different”. In the end, the parties settled : V.I. had to list Queen and Bowie in the songwriting credits (with monetary compensation for royalties), in exchange for being able to continue to perform and collect future profits from it. This case set the precedent for the standards upheld for legal sampling. (For example, gaining the original artist/songwriter’s approval to use it, giving proper credits due, coming to a agreement on sharing royalties, etc.) The b-side to “Ice Ice Baby” was “Play That Funky Music”, an even-more blatant rip-off of a song by the same name by a band called Wild Cherry - he also had to settle with Wild Cherry but, being a less-powerful band, they didn’t get as huge a settlement and Queen and David Bowie did.

Helpful hint: I see reactors make this mistake, ALL the time... The date on the KZbin video is when the video was posted, not necessarily when the video or song came out. This song was released in 1990. This specific video, was uploaded to KZbin, in 2009. Best way to find a song release date, is google, not KZbin. The 90's were a vibe. The dancing, videos, and the music, had a little bit of everything. Good times. Happy you had fun with this one, it's a classic.

He says D Shay and DJ. This song was so huge you can’t even comprehend it. Rap was a fringe music style and when this song came out it took over everything. It got played so much and for so long that it opened the door for other rappers and closed the door on Vanilla Ice afterwards. The fact that racists hated him and basically United together to tear him down in order to keep rap a “black art form” I imagine it’s how black people felt when they use to be excluded from pro sports leagues. You still see the racism toward Eminem today by some.
