Dennis - we mowed everything “horse quality” we had on May 30 and 31 and got all of it in the barn before the rain restarted. All of it 3 day cut to bale (squares), beautiful hay. Low humidity and a steady breeze the whole time. Just as we pulled the last kicker wagon into the barn, it started raining and pretty much hasn’t stopped, including today. BTW - we are using a Krone impeller machine and the conditioning on grass hay is impressive. We put a video up yesterday showing the Krone and heavy hay. Like you, our timothy had not headed out much, but given that weather window, I didn’t care. I’m glad now we jumped on the hay. Hope yours turned out great!

Nice job Dennis. That brings back so many memories for me. I've ran into everything from phone wire to barbed wire and broken steel fence posts. The wire was from an old farmer who replaced it(an old fence line) with new wire, and instead of rolling it up and throwing it away, he just tossed it to the side, the field side that is and left it there for me to hit with the mower. Not good at all. Anyway, I can't wait to see how your newer fields do with the hay. Best of luck with it.

Crazy how they left that wire like that. When they send out the companies to trim the trees back off the right of ways here they leave most of the limbs and mulch in the fields and only take any that has fallen in our yard. If they hit any of our barbed wire fence they just leave it laying and don't say anything. Good times when I hit that lol.

Does that mower have an attached conditioner? Regarding crop growth have you had a lot of rain since you applied your fertilizer? I suspect so based on your comments and perhaps some of the Nitrogen component has been washed down too low for the roots to make use of it yet also slow growth might be a reflection of a cold spring. Do you topdress after removing the bales to stimulate a good second cut with something like ammonium nitrate?
@DLHFarms4 жыл бұрын
Yes it has rubber roller conditioners. We had 5 inch's of rain 2 days after I Fertilized unfortunately. Yes I will top dress it it ever stops raining.
