Hey guys!
Finally a new video with Champ. From now on he will just be called by his name haha.
He has been doing so good and the groundwork is improving, getting to know each other a lot better as well, which takes time. Now we are starting to bring this into the riding. This time he was a little tensed in the beginning but it got better at the end. Thats process!!! We will take our time, and keep looking into if he is healthy or where we can help him too. So just all little steps. Thank you so much for being on this journey with me and hopefully you liked this video.

I am happy that Champ’s caring owner responded to the suggestion about using ulcer guard for him. Many horses have ulcers, and the pain can cause a lot of behavioral issues. Champ is a very busy mind and has relaxed so much as you work with him. Great job, Jesse. 🌈💜🇺🇸

Als de eigenaar het rustiger aan had gedaan met dit grote paard dan waren er waarschijnlijk helemaal geen problemen ontstaan! Maar ja, met 6 jaar moeten de paarden al Z lopen wat volkomen krankzinnig is. Mijn grote voorbeeld hoe je paarden traint is Barry Hook uit Engeland. Ik hoop uit de grond van mijn hart dat de eigenaar het heeeel rustig aan gaat doen met dit grote paard om hem heel te houden in geest en lichaam.

Camomile grows in our garden and is a powerful herb. You can collect and dry the blossoms and use it as a tea for example. Well done, keep going! 👍❤️ PS. I LOVE all the neck flexion exercises you’re doing with him. It not only softens Champ’s responses and can be used for an emergency stop, but it has him willingly giving a bit more to your requests, even by a tiny amount each time, and he’s rewarded immediately for it. (rein/lead release of pressure). It all ties in to willing cooperation, well done!

I love how intelligent and sweet Champ looks, as he turns his head in the very beginning, looking at the Camera, as if to say, look at me and how handsome I am! What I love the most as I rewatch this for a second time is the trust and love Champ has for Jesse. It really shows. 🧡 Jesse's groundwork and time and not rushing has really paid off. Jesse keep Champ first and foremost, and if you need time and space in the videos to put Champ first into your focus, take a break from recording and do what continues to be best for you both and your path forward together. Jesse, I have my own young horse that I am now training and will be needing to back him as you are her, and I am learning a lot from watching your video. Thank you so much for posting this, it is very, very helpful. Champ is trying very hard to please you and do as asked and you can see how much he trusts you. What a good boy he is! You are right to keep a contact as you train to be ready to help him in case he suddenly reacts you will be ready. Don't worry about his head, all your instincts are right now, and you are wise to follow them. You can fine tune things as you progress and as he gains confidence in learning what this is all about. Lastly if his hooves are bad, he may benefit from a hoof supplement, even if just for a short time to get his feet back looking good again. Farrier's Formula worked great for my horse. This horse has so much personality!! ☺

Ik denk dat dit paard zich comfortabeler voelt met een zadel waarbij de eerste singelstoot niet op het kopijzer zit. Veel paarden vinden de druk van die singelstoot niet prettig, omdat het op die positie echt in de weg zit bij grotere beweging, en gaan daarvan in verzet. De hele lijn: singel, singelstoten, balanspunt, ruiter, lijkt ook net niet helemaal te kloppen bij dit zadel, maar dat is in dit filmpje lastig te zien. Mooi dat je het zo rustig aanpakt, maar ik vermoed dat je als je verder komt, en met dit zadel blijft rijden, je weer tegen hetzelfde verzet blijft aanlopen, omdat het paard tegen diezelfde singelstoot blijft aanlopen.

I was wondering how Champ was getting on , I've got the answer and I'm so happy for him, for you and for Anouk. The work you're doing with him will be long, and there may still be moments of tension, misunderstanding and stress, but you won't give up. So much changes since the first video!!! THE PROCESS- Stage 2 and its almost a different horse. Long way to go but you have come so very far to get to this point. It is a shame that the setback with his feet happened since it will slow the forward momentum. So be it , there is no rush to get a nice horse out of it. BRAVO!!!

I feel this so much. While I was riding for free, for ages I rode this one horse that no one wanted to ride. Granted, I didn't want to ride him either at first knowing his track record. He had a bad time during his early education as he had strangles and then developed some other infection that took years to heal and left him with a lot of scarring. The yard did try to bring him back in too fast IMO and even the people that would visit that were going into equestrian professions at a high level even refused to ride him after his behaviour. I literally had people taking bets the first time I rode him about how long I was able to stay on him. Yeah turns out actually he was a big scardey cat and he really needed one person to just support and guide him. He never actually had a mean bone in his body, he was just extremely sensitive and wary of everything. Once we'd gotten to the point where I rode out his random spooks and he was happy having the same person work with him, his behaviour did settle. I'd never call him a confident horse, but he had more confidence when we were together. The end result of that was I had taken time to ride him alone one day and all of a sudden we had a massive storm blow over. Thunder, lightning torrential rain and hail all on an exposed hilltop.... and I was in an indoor arena that was a glorified tin shed. The noise even hurt my ears. I wouldn't have been surprised if ANY horse had a complete meltdown with how bad it was. In hindsight I was shocked that he didn't dump me on the spot, allowed me to ask for halt and dismount without putting a foot wrong. I abandoned the idea and someone came running down to make sure I didn't need to go to hospital lol. I do miss him. A new yard manager didn't really take any criticism from 'lower people' than them and I ended up leaving. They didn't believe me when I said he couldn't handle the pressure of the way they were asking me to ride him..... oddly enough the manager only ever rode the quietest of cobs citing 'staff need safe horses so we can look after other people' which is BS. They never did actually get on him. I would have loved to have seen him dump them considering they didn't take into account that not all horses could work at the same level

Love this series! Reminds me a lot of the green horses I was able to work with alongside my instructor.
