I feel as if that boom is the weakest link, Has to be a reason almost every other winch box built builds around the boom, And ya if that 1 inch line snaps that mesh ain't doing much
@simon0219 ай бұрын
Seems like a horrible idea to be operating that thing nearly directly in the line of fire from the winch. It would make a lot more sense to have some snatch points on the bottom corners of the bucket so you could snatch block it down from the boom to the bottom of the bucker for hard pull. This way the bucket is the protection, which is actually substantial protection vs some wire mesh that isnt doing a damn thing when that cable comes at you...
@justgreg82709 ай бұрын
id agree with that one @ashkanserat , not to say by any means im an expert or really know much about heavy machinery and cables but i feel like some thicker maybe 1/8 or 1/4 inch expanded sheet metal would be a bit safer in my ignorant opinion

You should talk to Yankum and see if they can get you a synthetic winch line for that beast. It would make it easier to pull out the winch line and reduce the weight on the front of the beast. If you didn't already know, they make synthetic winch line for wreckers. Casey Ladelle recently put them on his Zacklift wrecker and they make a huge difference when rigging recoveries. No more hooking up and backing up to unspool the heavy cable. Just a small modification to the sheep's head to round the edges so it doesn't cause wear on the line. Casey welded a U-bolt to his to make a rounded edge. Another advantage is it would make it much safer in the event of a line or anchor point break. Synthetic line doesn't spring back at you like steel cable does and wouldn't cause as much damage if it did. Worth considering.

I use a silicone ring as a mechanic every day and they last a long time already, and with how cheap they are I have several. I agreed that I don’t want one this strong as it kinda defeats the purpose of being a break away ring. Ive never said with my current silicone rings “I wish it was stronger” lol had one close call that fractured a tungsten ring and never again will I wear anything but a rubber ring but this one he’s advertising is defeating the purpose

In regards to the "Tough Ring"...they are a great alternative to a metal ring however as a 30+ year mechanic I personally would prefer a lower breaking strength than 40+ pounds. That would potentially dislocate my finger and/or break my finger prior to the ring breaking and allowing me to get free.
@douglasr.c.56229 ай бұрын
Agree. I thought that was one of the big reasons for getting away from metal.

Good idea. I have considered doing something similar using a 3 point box blade with the winch set up on it so as to be changed like plows with the 3 point of the tractor. I may do it yet. The high position of your boom is good for adding a bit of lift to stuck equipment that might need some lift. I believe it could, however, cause the rear of your loader to be picked up if a pull is extra heavy. That could be helped with a little extra weight, or other help, to the rear of your loader. I like it, though.

A 3/4 Lexan panel behind it as a second layer of protection would help too.
