Awesome Video Jamie! You really did some recording that day!! Loved the Tamaqua tunnel shots, awesome to watch the hole get smaller and smaller until you popped out the other side. Im very intriqued with that bridge before the south portal. Looks like i got some hiking or wading to do!! Lol. Little Luca sure loves the trains too! Glad we were able to chase it was fun! Take care and thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Ian! I was really enjoying filming from those cars, and it was such a lovely day too. That was fun with the view of the tunnel, and I hope you get to check out that bridge.

Jamie, it sounded like you were riding on stick rail in New Ringgold. I wonder if Andy plans to have that converted to continuously welded rail?
@JamieMakin8 ай бұрын
They've been gradually upgrading the stick rail to continuously welded rail, but I'm not sure if there's a firm plan to convert it all in the short term. It could be that they wait until it needs replacement or major work to do so, but I can see if I can find out more.

What would be the protocol if a diesel locomotive hauling an excursion train lost it's brakes approaching Reading Outer Station heading south? The tracks merge with NS south of there at Belt Jct.
@JamieMakin8 ай бұрын
That's a good question, but I don't know the answer.
@robkrasinski62178 ай бұрын
Is Reading and Northern a better employer than NS? They still operate excursions, steam, etc. but NS stopped hosting the newer steam excursions after 2017 and now 611 has to be towed by an NS diesel to go to tourist railroads to operate, as well as 765. NS trades on the stock market and has to answer to shareholders and make a profit. Class 1's like NS have to minimize risk and liability and public excursions cause risk and liability. The steam excursions several years ago were former CEO Wick Moorman's thing. 765 came through Jim Thorpe in Aug 2015 and met 425. I was on it. It was a rare opportunity to ride the freight only NS tracks from west of Bethlehem into the Lehigh Gorge. Then, they took RBMN up to Pittston and back down to Jim Thorpe and back onto NS at Packerton Jct. I'm riding behind 2102 on June 22 from Nesquehoning to Tunkhannock and return. It will be my fourth time behind 2102. Was the Salisbury Beach on some NS 21st Century Steam excursions several years ago? R&N has an A and B F unit from NS. They were using freight units on their OCS business train, and now they use heritage units.

As a Reading & Northern employee, I can tell you I absolutely love my job! They're a great company to work for, and one I hope to build a longer career at. I've never worked for NS, and from the stuff I hear about them I have no desire to work there. I'm not sure if Salisbury Beach was ever used on an NS steam trip. Glad to hear you'll be riding behind 2102! That's shaping up to be the best trip of the year.
@robkrasinski62178 ай бұрын
I like riding behind steam locomotives more than diesels but I rode some diesel excursions on R&N including a few rare mileage photo freights that boarded at Port Clinton including the first Oneida Clipper excursion toward Hazleton.

Nothing better than a wake-up train ride..........just curious, how close is the most recent NS "ooooopsie" into the Lehigh River? With 3 trains involved, thats definitely not good!
@JamieMakin8 ай бұрын
Glad you got to enjoy this video to start your day. NS's oopsie was about 50 miles northeast of Reading and about 35 miles southeast of Jim Thorpe.
@paulsmith53988 ай бұрын
@@JamieMakin sooooo, it was downstream from R & N territory? Sure seems like the 3 largest U.S. railroads are having their fair share of mishaps lately, and the smaller ones like R & N just keep on time and on track. Long trains and PSR just dont seem to work good together.
@JamieMakin8 ай бұрын
@@paulsmith5398 yep, same river but quite a ways downstream from R&N. From what I can tell the Class 1's are having about the same number of mishaps as usual, but the media spotlight has really been on them since NS's East Palestine incident.
@paulsmith53988 ай бұрын
@@JamieMakin i dont recall any directly related fatalities from East Palestine, but the people and the area surrounding the derailment will never be the same again. I am just finishing up a 100% lean prime rib burger with maple & applewood seasoning, some oven-baked crinkle cut steak fries, and a tall cold Coke, wonder what the reaction would be if that was served on one of the R & N trains😋🤔❓❗
