My first ride out on the Dyna Lowrider S. Still can't believe i've got the bike i've wanted so badly.
I talk through my thoughts on the bike such as how it rides etc. Go through my insurance costs for the bike and other additions to the Lowrider S that I will be bolting on.
The 2017 Dyna Lowrider S is an amazing bike and I feel this will be a historical bike for HD and a well sought after model in the future as they are only in production for 2 years.
Big thanks to the team at Shaw Harley Davidson who have supported me from day 1. And a big thanks to Russel at RB Kustom who did a great job customising Goldie for me - cheers buddy.

Be grateful you don't have the same exhaust system laws that we do here in Kalifornistan - Slip-ons only here, we're not allowed to touch the pipes with the catalytic converter under pain of death by fines.

Nevada is closer to us here in Nor-Cal, so yeah, I could but... Out of state plates + Cali drivers license combo gets the stink eye from Officer Bob. Making a "donation" to the state ticket revenue fund is not my idea of a good time, so I dunno...

Nice, test rode one yesterday, loved the engine, the tacho and indicator lights were annoying but still I had a lot of fun on the bike, amazingly quite easy to ride and handle.

I just traded my 2017 iron 883 in Friday for a 2016 dyna lowrider S. It is definitely a beast after only riding an 883! It already came with everything, bassani RR3, 13in T-bars, rogue rider LEDS, day maker, saddlemen step up and sissy bar.

Great choice dude. It rained when I picked my LRS up too... 💁‍♂️ I absolutely get where you're coming from with modding it. I have done the flush mount fuel cap and gauge and exhaust (a V&H 2-2) and that's about it. I didn't really like the wheel colour, but as you say, it's an LRS and that's that. As a limited edition, and as a special bike in its own right, it seemed right to keep the descents of the bike stock. A daymaker and black wrap on the upper part of the forks has made the front look more muscular and I've actually removed the fairing and added a chin spoiler; which again has added to the muscular look (IMHO). The bike is truly amazing, and although I'm now selling it I have loved every single mile on this beautiful machine. Safe riding! Ed, Kent.

Take care of her, Newb. Not only are you riding the best Dyna ever made, she's also a collectable. The '17 S and CVO models are the last 110 c.i. twin cam that will ever be made. With that said, we still don't believe your keeping her even mildly stock. Be honest - on the ride home, you were already thinking how quickly you can install all the mods you're going to do, weren't you? :-) Also, how you kept from going bonkers waiting for your bike is beyond me. As you probably know, here in the States, the bike you test ride is the one you buy and take home, usually that same day. Anyway, thanks for sharing and I look forward to watching your further adventures with that cruise missile. Ride safe, bud.

Brilliant - Totally agree Dario, I believe this bike is a "good" slice of HD history. I think i'll go as far as the 117 conversion with the team at Shaws. We've discussed this option already for Winter mods. I guess the good side about not having all the mods straight away is that you get to appreciate the bike more when they go on - however you're absolutely spot on I wanted the mods on NOW. Hope you enjoy the adventure mate with me :)

Bike looks lovely, my Fatboy Lo Special is all black like yours so when the stage 1 was done I opted for the chrome V & H Big Radius 2/2, to break it up a bit.I worry also about swirls on the paint & I got a couple of Meguiars productss ie "Swirl X" swirl remover -- bloody excellent, & so easy to do, also bought Meguiars Scratch X 20 to use later in case of somethimg deeper. When you see these swirls it's only the clear coat that is affected, even dust scratches clear cost so worth investing in a proper paint polisher (variable speed) easy to use & cut hrs off general detailing. Enjoy your weekend 🖒😎

I realise that not every bike suits every one and the Low rider S was just not for me. as soon as I sat on the bike it felt weird with my arse low and my knees in the air and all I could see was the handlebars, after two hours My arse was on fire with the heat. Every round about I scraped the pegs and my clutch hand was killing me after a while in traffic. The engine and brakes were superb but if I wanted that kind of performance and better handling I would get a ducati for half the price. I was glad to get back on my Fatbob as its so comfortable and I can ride it all day long, sure the fat bob is not perfect but it feels more like a harley and really good at everything now bear in mind Ive owned sports bikes most of my 40 years biking life and I do like my speed and handling but I cant wait to get my bike out any chance I get, in six month Ive done 5000 mile and the fat bob is just getting better and better.

Regarding the speedometer: I installed a motoscope mini from moto gadget in the 'bonnet' in front. I didn't care about rpm, but I wanted to see how fast I am going, without looking down as much. That helped pretty good.

Gosh that's a difficult questions to answer spot on, I know a chap who's paying £800 on a 96 and another that's paying £800 + on the lowrider S. My insurance wasn't to bad considering. But age has a greater bearing on the insurance vs a NCB (no claims bonus).

Sir Motonewb! i have a question about exhaust for you. How do you feel about the Vance and Hines Short shots?i see you have had the grenades, however i would love a pair of Short Shots on my 48! Did you like the short shots or were they overwhelmingly loud?

@Motonewbrider 7 жыл бұрын
Hi fella, Shorts shots are ok, I find them very "popp" rather than a deep throaty tone which i prefer. I ran short shots on my first sportster iron and that was super loud. The mini grenades may be a good shout though and not to common (at the moment) - they've just been released in the UK via Vance & Hines.

Moto Moose hey fella! Congrats on the purchase. My main reason was due to the FXDLS being one of those bikes that ticked all the boxes for me. I am now riding longer distances and I'm planning on doing more long europe trips. At the same time I can fling this about just like the sportster. If you ever see me buying a Road King then you know I've lost the plot ( lol )

So here in the states, the left lane is considered the "fast" lane on the interstates. If you're going slower than the traffic coming up behind you, you should get out of the way. Is it the opposite for you all in the UK? Is the right lane considered the "fast" lane or is that not a thing? Forgive the ignorance.

have you heard about the 'hard breaking in'? you think its complete BS? the best out there, I remember a video with some guy called jake the snake if I remember correctly he made a couple of preaty reasonable points, apparently he is a pro mechanic as well and should give hims at least some credibility. He doesn´t say anything super crazy btw, just argues that giving it some full throtle from once in a while for short periods of time going throug all the gear box in theory can make the cilinder rings (for exemple, he maes another points) seal better and he shows a couple of dino run slides.

Yeah I've watched a couple of his vlogs - he's a massive Harley fan (LOL). TBH I just stick to the owners manual, he could be spot on but I need to follow the rules as I've had a major warranty claim before and it's not worth the hassle.

You think you could of bought this as your first bike or do you think that this was part of natural progression ?... when I went to buy my Sportster the dealer actually said to me if I return it after 6 months for a bigger bike he'll trade it for what I paid for it....

No chance mate for that money - I started with the sportster iron as it was financially (for me) an acceptable risk to see whether I would really get into riding. I think it's a journey most will take, ideally I would of loved to have both but in the same breath I would say what's the point of having two bikes that deliver the same job.

Every pound spent on tarting things up delays the inevitable 117" engine kit install, just sayin' ;-P Please do link/post up the parts needed to put the 180 tire on the back end, suspect they will be similar to the Fat Bob's bits, but can't beat a "here's what works" list from someone who's actually done the change.

Excellent in all regards, thanks for doing that for us! I'm running the stock tires until they are done, I don't have the wallet to throw at new tires/wheels for the sake of new tires right now, too many other priorities/money sinks on the bike to tend to first. I replaced the weak sauce headlight with a MoonSMC Moonmaker LED lamp this past weekend. It works a trick and was well worth the (for a Harley) modest expense. You planning on an LED setup for your bike? The tight UK roads would be a lot safer with a better lighting solution.
