I've never ridden a CBR...time to change that! Hunter Honda let me take his 2017 Honda CBR1000RR out for a spin and I got my first ride on a Honda sportbike. Checking this one off the liter bike list! Glad to finally do a little CBR1000RR review and see how it stacks up against my Yamaha R1 and BMW S1000RR. On the 1000rr(dot)net, or cbr1000 facebook page, look up RC45/Paul Kingsley and have him work on your ECU, he has the HRC sport kit unlock AND pulls the most power out of the CBR. He is by far the best ecu/flash shop for Honda, and has MANY connections in HRC/TenKate Racing. He has pulled well over 200rwhp on some of his 2017+ CBR's(because he has at least 4 of them).
@ChaseN194

any tune shop that tunes the bike only in one power mode doesnt know what they are doing, and the SC77 platform needs a lot of ECU work. It is laced with restrictions. Pauls the only one that properly tunes all the modes and can do engine work the way Honda's official race team does it. He even built a 1:1 FiM SP2 WSBK spec at his house lol

2017 SP owner here... That bike is fly by wire throttle... what you are feeling as delay in throttle is torque control but mostly its stock fuel/throttle mapping + stock exhaust valve. Unrestricted exhaust with a fuel map + TC on 0/1 and that all goes away.

My question is why can the manufacturers not sell the bikes with the smooth "ecu-flashed" responsive throttle? My 09 R1 is the same with a very "on-off" switch like throttle response, especially at low rpm. Bikes today should come out with buttery smooth throttle responses.

I know I'm late to the party, but a few of things... It's an electronic throttle - and even if it wasn't, a well put together cable throttle will generally be more responsive as you have a direct mechanical connection to the throttle bodies. It's lighter weight (in stock configuration) that anything else in it's class - not just on the scale, but also where the weight is distributed. The electronic engine breaking can be adjusted - level 1 is VERY aggressive, so I would recommend trying level 2/3. Out of all the 'current gen' bikes in this class, the NA variant of the CBR1000RR is probably the most restricted - a flash will turn this into a completely different machine.

@theonlyredspecial 3 жыл бұрын
the 2017 fireblade is throttle by wire. If you are using a lower power mode it’s quite tuned down on acceleration which may explain the lag you mentioned. The 2019 model got upgraded electronics which helped cured some of those issues. The brakes are definitely better than the r1 which suffers from fade.

@@motonosity as a rule of thumb, you can't get ride modes without an electronic throttle. Since the modes affect throttle sensitivity.
@RCFourFive

@@motonosity 2019 ECU is the same as 2017/18 with regard to control. The throttle response is soft in Mode 3 and Mode 2. It is quicker in Mode 1, but is still very nerfed due to the restricted nature of the tune Honda applied to bike to pass US EPA Noise requirements. A properly tuned ECU will transform the bike from its current form to a bike you would be hesitant to ride in full power mode on the street. Let me know when you boys are ready to try out some properly setup Fireblades in Texas.

I dont have the measurements on hand but the CBR feels way way better for my 6'1 frame than any of the other 1000 besides Panigale (ZX10r is similar big but I wouldn't buy one etc.). CBR seems to have a touch more room from pegs to bars than R1 and BMW. Kind of what you said about nothing abnormal and being straight forward, I agree with you. I love how the CBR settles on corner, something about it rides really "solid" into corners where as the R1 feels maybe a touch smaller footprint when I am pushing it.

Honda restricted the CRAP out of this bike with stupid restrictor plates on the intake tubes as well as a US spec ECU programmed for sapping the power out of the bike EVERYWHERE in the rev range. Once you get a flash and tune this back to the Euro spec tables, pull the restrictor plates off the intakes, and an exhaust; it will become a completely different animal

Why didn't you switch from B mode to the highest performance mode to see if that fixes the throttle response. Seems like that may have been the issue. I have owned 2 honda supersport bikes and throttle response has been great. So it seems odd that the most powerful honda yet, would have bad throttle response.

The things you said are the exact reasons I ended up selling my 17 and deciding to try out a naked (2016 s1000r, which is a perfect bike and you should try and get a ride in on one) only thing you didnt mention was insurance. They got me for 2600/year for full and the s1000r is 700/yr for full. Aside from that, I probably could have made the bike perfect by dumping some money into mods but why bother at that point if youre starting with an uncomfortable platform you aren't enjoying and crazy insurance? The bike had a massive amount of vibration to the point it sucked to ride for more than 30 mins, no quickshifter abs or brembos standard. Twitchy throttle (which is actually electronic ride by wire btw and you were also riding in the highest engine braking setting, level 3 is the least engine braking), came with a m4 exhaust which I absolutely hated which fucked up the midrange even more, and overall the bike desperately needed a flash. Again, all fixable things, I just didnt see it as being worth the money.

I just bought 2020 cbr1000rr-r sp it's actually a nice street. Under 8k rpm, it's nice and chill very easy to ride on the street but above pure insanely. I never own 2017 model but i rode one and I didn't like anything about it. Ironically I actually don't like the track performance of the cbr1000rr-r sp out of the box. The gears are way too tall and after hard braking, you get into a "chill mode" and it takes a second or 2 to get out of it which affects the enjoyment and the lap times. I had 2018 r1 before the CBR which actually feels better and faster on the track.
