I love you videos. And I love my 900 RP, but two things in vid I personally disagree with. It does vibrate pretty good amount on road and the forks definitely dive when I front brake. I’m 160 pound rider and had to crank up preload a lot to reduce the brake dive. Vibrations I’m still trying different setups to help with that. All that being said I think this bike with some good 50/50 tires is for sure one of the best do it all bikes out there at the moment 👍🏼👍🏼

Nice review. I’m thinking of going the ADV route as a second bike and looking at 1250 GSA (really big, really expensive) down to the RE Himalayan (really small, kinda cheap). Intention is road riding to get to dirt or packed gravel forest roads for camping. GSA probably overkill for that and the REH - meh. Yes I know about Itchy Boots - she is awesome. The Tigers look pretty capable and maybe this 900 size would be about right.

Very nice video thanks for posting it, I am looking to upgrade from my 2012 Super Tenere to something that is better off road but still can do all day on the road without being to uncomfortable, (Hope to ride all the BDR's) I think I have got it narrowed down to either Tiger 900 or base model Africa Twin 1100 I could not find any reviews from Upshift on the 2020/21 AT have you had a chance to test one out? if so how would you say they compare? I tend to be a lower RPM rider I like torque I dont like to have to rev it out to get my power like I feel you do with the Tiger 800's being used to the Super Tenere that just dont fit my style. Around here the AT is about $2k cheaper and there is dealers all over where there is only one Triumph dealer in the state. I feel like the Tiger probably is the nicer of the two but I am just not sure which would be better for me and I cant find either to test ride, I know its hard to tell somebody what is best for them but if you have any thoughts I would like to hear them. Thank you P.S if it matters I am 6' 1'' 150lbs maybe intermediate rider not a lot of experience off road on big bikes
@UPSHIFT_ONLINE3 жыл бұрын
Both the AT and Tiger 900 are excellent machines. The Tiger 900 Rally Pro is certainly a little bit more refined on all fronts, but it should be for the money. We have spent some time on the 2020 AT w/ DCT (not the Adventure Sports model) and it is certainly capable of doing any of the BDR routes. We came to really love the DCT as well. You just have to really get your settings figured out when riding offroad. Both tour well and are comfortable. Honda has a deeper dealer network. If you are coming off of a Super Tenere the AT will feel down right sporty. The Tiger will feel like a sport bike.

The Tiger is the better street machine especially if you tour at all. The T7 can certainly tour as well, but it doesn't have the same power and pushed around a bit more in the wind etc. The T7 wins offroad. It's just a bit more nimble and light feeling. That's interesting as every other review says the suspension is pretty poor when off the tarmac and limits the bike. Wasn't the suspension the first upgrade you guys did on your T700 project?
@UPSHIFT_ONLINE3 жыл бұрын
Out of the box the Tiger's suspension is actually pretty good. We may have also spent a little more time setting the bike up than other and we also made sure the tires were appropriate to the riding we were doing. That's not saying it's GREAT, but it works well and keeps the bike planted and on track. The T7's suspension was done in our Phase 2. Stock it's really soft and chatters pretty badly on washboard etc. The suspension on the T7 is a big corner that was cut to keep the cost of the bike down. The Tiger's suspension is quite sophisticated by comparison.

I don't understand the point of protecting the engine with a crash bars, when the same one is attached to the engine. When a motorcycle falls, the energy of the impact force is transferred directly to the engine.
@UPSHIFT_ONLINE3 жыл бұрын
Not all crash bars are created equal. Many crash bars actually mount to the frame. We use Outback Motortek mostly because they do work hard to get as many mount points to the frame as possible. But there are a number of times that crash bars do mount to or have some mount points on the engine case. Usually they use several points to disperse the load making it much less likely to damage the engine cases than direct contact with pavement of rocks. Crash bars are critical on these bikes especially if you intend to ride offroad at all.

The Tiger certainly has more power and some more creature comforts. Feels a little heavier up high. The 790 carries a better center of gravity and feels a bit better planted offroad.
