Super informative review, Thank you, Love riding off pavement as well, and poor paved country roads. Picking up a 2020 Rally, green, not Pro in a week. Adding engine bars and Sump plate as well as Pirelli Rally STR tires to start, do a lot of winding bumpy country roads! Figured I did not need all the electronics, just want to ride it. Off road mode should be plenty good for me, as you stated you spent most time there. Cannot wait to ride this, great addition to the "fleet" !!!

That was a great review. Mostly because you actually took the bike off-road an ran it relatively hard. I've probably watched 50+ videos on the 900's trying to narrow down the decision as to whether I'd be happier on it, a GS or the KTM 790/890 AR. After all was said and done I chose the Tiger. I'll be picking it up this week and pretty stoked about getting it out on the AZBDR and other well off the grid adventures as well. You guys look like you have great riding up there in Idaho. I'd like to check it out sometime. If anyone reading this is around the Phoenix area let me know if you want to ride. Everyone be safe out there!

We spend a lot of time riding single cylinder bikes too so for us this thing is about as smooth as it gets. Guess it's all relative. We have discussed a graphics kit, but it's not too likely. It's a pretty difficult bike to do and there just are not very many of them out there. We need to be able to sell quite a few kits for it to be justified.

I love you videos. And I love my 900 RP, but two things in vid I personally disagree with. It does vibrate pretty good amount on road and the forks definitely dive when I front brake. I’m 160 pound rider and had to crank up preload a lot to reduce the brake dive. Vibrations I’m still trying different setups to help with that. All that being said I think this bike with some good 50/50 tires is for sure one of the best do it all bikes out there at the moment 👍🏼👍🏼

We have had another comment about vibration. We think because we ride so many single cylinder bikes... this thing feels silky smooth for us. Guess it's all relative. Nice review. I’m thinking of going the ADV route as a second bike and looking at 1250 GSA (really big, really expensive) down to the RE Himalayan (really small, kinda cheap). Intention is road riding to get to dirt or packed gravel forest roads for camping. GSA probably overkill for that and the REH - meh. Yes I know about Itchy Boots - she is awesome. The Tigers look pretty capable and maybe this 900 size would be about right.

Love the review! Best one on youtube by far! I had a question about the modes. The Rally only comes with Offroad mode and misses out on Offroad Pro mode. But is it still possible to turn off traction control completely in Offroad mode on the Rally? It would suck if Triumph prevented that since I consider it essential.

Very nice video thanks for posting it, I am looking to upgrade from my 2012 Super Tenere to something that is better off road but still can do all day on the road without being to uncomfortable, (Hope to ride all the BDR's) I think I have got it narrowed down to either Tiger 900 or base model Africa Twin 1100 I could not find any reviews from Upshift on the 2020/21 AT have you had a chance to test one out? if so how would you say they compare? I tend to be a lower RPM rider I like torque I dont like to have to rev it out to get my power like I feel you do with the Tiger 800's being used to the Super Tenere that just dont fit my style. Around here the AT is about $2k cheaper and there is dealers all over where there is only one Triumph dealer in the state. I feel like the Tiger probably is the nicer of the two but I am just not sure which would be better for me and I cant find either to test ride, I know its hard to tell somebody what is best for them but if you have any thoughts I would like to hear them. Thank you P.S if it matters I am 6' 1'' 150lbs maybe intermediate rider not a lot of experience off road on big bikes

Both the AT and Tiger 900 are excellent machines. The Tiger 900 Rally Pro is certainly a little bit more refined on all fronts, but it should be for the money. We have spent some time on the 2020 AT w/ DCT (not the Adventure Sports model) and it is certainly capable of doing any of the BDR routes. We came to really love the DCT as well. You just have to really get your settings figured out when riding offroad. Both tour well and are comfortable. Honda has a deeper dealer network. If you are coming off of a Super Tenere the AT will feel down right sporty. The Tiger will feel like a sport bike.

The Tiger is the better street machine especially if you tour at all. The T7 can certainly tour as well, but it doesn't have the same power and pushed around a bit more in the wind etc. The T7 wins offroad. It's just a bit more nimble and light feeling. Out of the box the Tiger's suspension is actually pretty good. We may have also spent a little more time setting the bike up than other and we also made sure the tires were appropriate to the riding we were doing. That's not saying it's GREAT, but it works well and keeps the bike planted and on track. The T7's suspension was done in our Phase 2. Stock it's really soft and chatters pretty badly on washboard etc. The suspension on the T7 is a big corner that was cut to keep the cost of the bike down. The Tiger's suspension is quite sophisticated by comparison.

Based on the fact you decided to leave it in off road mode instead of off road pro, would you say that the “pro” model is worth the upgrade over the standard rally? I understand the added farkles such as crash protection, heated seats, quick shifter, etc. But the difference in the riding modes is more important as triumph hasn’t allowed the standard rally models to receive a mode upgrade after the fact.

I don't understand the point of protecting the engine with a crash bars, when the same one is attached to the engine. When a motorcycle falls, the energy of the impact force is transferred directly to the engine.
@UPSHIFT_ONLINE
@UPSHIFT_ONLINE 3 жыл бұрын
Not all crash bars are created equal. Many crash bars actually mount to the frame. We use Outback Motortek mostly because they do work hard to get as many mount points to the frame as possible. But there are a number of times that crash bars do mount to or have some mount points on the engine case. Usually they use several points to disperse the load making it much less likely to damage the engine cases than direct contact with pavement of rocks. Crash bars are critical on these bikes especially if you intend to ride offroad at all.

The Tiger certainly has more power and some more creature comforts. Feels a little heavier up high. The 790 carries a better center of gravity and feels a bit better planted offroad. Both are superb and now you have the 890 in the mix which is very similar to the 790 but closes the gap on the tiger in the power department. We like them both very much. You can not make a bad choice here.

I waited as long as I could but by Sat afternoon I had to make a decision or lose my deposit so I went with the 900 and had them put a set of Heidenau Scout k60's on it. What an awesome bike. Almost 400 miles from late Sat afternoon and Sunday. I honestly think I'd like a bit more of an aggressive tire, maybe the Scorpion Rally Pro? It's a whole lot of power to get to the ground and you were right that it gets there in a hurry. I really appreciate your help!

Happy to help. Glad you are enjoying the bike. We think it will serve you very well. How much dirt are you riding? How technical?

@@UPSHIFT_ONLINE I'd like to say 50/50 but the reality is probably 60/40 dirt/pavement. Idk that I'd be able to tackle on this 900 what I do on my KTM300 MXC but I've definitely done dual/single track. Deep sand is proving difficult with the Heidenau though. I think the Scorpion Rally Pro may have been a better choice. Overall it's doing a pretty good job. I have a Tiger 800 XCx and it's amazing the difference between the 2 bikes. The new one really does have way more torque in a much lower, more useful range.

We hammered on ours. From Canada to Copper Canyon, Mexico. It was problem free for 14,000 miles.

Really? The Triumph triple is rated the second best engine in terms of reliability behind the Yamaha CP2.

Good review but it’s not updated, it’s a new model..

Yes, you are correct, it is an all new model. His intention was to say that the Rally Pro is the top tier variant of the Tiger 900. Or something to that affect. Don't worry, we will be punish him severely for this.

We find this bike to be very smooth. But we also ride a lot of single cylinder motorcycles so maybe we are detuned a bit.

The warm vibration up you backside means the bike is vibrating, nothing to do with the heated seat.
