Wow that’s awesome congrats!! Small world lol and it’s been a great experience! I’m sure you will like it and the professors are awesome and very helpful. The 3rd years are hardly ever on campus if ever because of clinical rotations but I’ll be on campus from time to time practicing techniques so we just might cross paths! Good luck this year and let me know if you need anything!

hey man! love your videos! I am in a rut. i was a pharmacy tech for 3 years so I "thought" I wanted to go into pharmacy. long story short that still is an open option but definitely not the first. I live in Las Vegas and we have a physical therapy program at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. my question is what made you decide going into pt versus other options such as occupational therapy. lemme know your thoughts really appr3ciate it man keep on making videos!
@DrDanMaggio6 жыл бұрын
+Richard Uzi. good question, I really decided to pursue PT school since the profession focuses the most on human movement and the quality of movement to reduce pain and the body's threat response to pain. Occupational therapy really focuses on transition back to life and how to perform daily tasks such as brushing teeth, putting on clothing, adjustments for driving and maneuvering around work or your house. I really wanted to focus on the human body. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do! you'll get there. Good questions!

can you make a video about what kind of people should become a PT or how did you discover your passion with PT
@danjoeman7 жыл бұрын
If you enjoy helping people become more physically independent and function better than they were before then PT is a great field to go into! Especially if you like helping people with exercises and enjoy the science of the body

You said you got your C in Patho and Phys. I thought in DPT school you have to have Atleast a B and up? I thought 2 C’s is subject to dismissal?
@bbetros6 жыл бұрын
Weird question, but will you be dealing with science courses ( chemistry, biology, physics) in the DPT program ? The reason I'm asking is because I just graduated with a bachelor's in kinesiology but although I got through my science courses with a B grade I had such a hard time with them that I don't really remember anything we learned in them. So I'm thinking if I'm going to be dealing with science courses again in the dpt program if I should go back and retake the classes so I could understand them better. Or is it a case where you won't be dealing with them in the program, that once you've gotten through them in your undergrads it's behind you and you won't have to deal with them again.. therefore I won't have to go back and retake them. And I can just proceed on. Btw thanks for making those videos. They're a big help.

Thanks for the great information!! I'm a Pilates instructor and have been teaching for the past 5 years, I feel like going through the process of becoming a PT would enrich my career in health care field so much more. I am although worried about the full time school commitment again (received my B.A. In Communications in 2009) how are your class schedules this year with managing part or full time work? Is it a strict class schedule per year?
@danjoeman7 жыл бұрын
there is a strict class schedule, but myself and other classmates were able to work our way through the program. I am a strength coach and personal trainer in the evenings after classes. It just takes some time to juggle and manage your time. It's worth while to grow your career if you feel like you have more to offer your clients.

Which one is the most interesting one PT or PTA??? And what is the difference between an occupational therapist and a physical therapist??? And how long exactly it takes??? Thank you very much
@strangergranger106 жыл бұрын
And what school can I take it???
@danjoeman6 жыл бұрын
+JM YABUT : Thanks for the comment! PT &PTA are the same profession, PTA's can NOT evaluate patients, complete re-evaluations, or discharge patients, they DO help complete the plan of care for the patient. So if you want to be in charge of the rehab and plan of care, then PT is the better option. Occupational therapy focuses on daily issues (dressing, bathing, clothing) that patients have trouble with and find strategies for patients to complete them. In the U.S. PT takes 3 years after University/College education. - Where do you live? what schools have you researched on Google?
@strangergranger106 жыл бұрын
I live in Conroe Texas and the nearest school in my house is Lonestar Montgomery and the only course they have is PTA so i don't know where can I take PT just in case I choose it. And one question if I choose PTA and I finished it can I continue it to PT??? Are they in the same curriculum??? Thank you very much
@DrDanMaggio6 жыл бұрын
you can continue on and pursue PT if you want after PTA. It's similar to if you want to be a Dentist after being a dental Hygenist.... or like pursing an MD after being a PA.. they have similar curriculum but different routes. You won't be able to use your PTA schooling though to transfer into a PT program. The PT program requires a bachelors degree and a PTA does not. Good questions.
@strangergranger106 жыл бұрын
Dan Maggio what I know is if I took PTA and get it done. Then I want to pursue it to PT I will go back to zero or the very beginning because they are not the same path or curriculum is that true??? if its true then its gonna be so sad
@ABSallah16 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude, just got into a few PT schools and deciding where to go...do you have any study tips?
@DrDanMaggio6 жыл бұрын
+ExpertGains Congrats on getting in! that's a huge accomplishment. Studying really comes down to staying on top of your classes. It was really easy to become complacent and tired after long days in class. Basically you can't eat a whole chocolate bar in one sitting.... so you have to eat it one bite at a time. basically 1 hour, or 30 minutes or 10 minutes at a time. if there's an area you have trouble retaining.... then spend 10 minutes to review, go on a walk, or do some pushups (something physical) then go back to the review. you can use this model (study - break/move - study) for all of your classes. play with different times that work best for you and your focus abilities. Make flash cards.... buy a big white board... say things out-loud verses writing them down. this will save you so much time in the long run.

Steak! what up! hey it's okay I have been there before. Actually our whole class was accused of cheating and was threatened with getting kicked out of school... talk about stress... anyway if you focus on small changes you need to make with your studying, it will make life so much easier!

Do you have a video about "How to get into PT school"? Or how you got in by any chance?
@bridgetc92736 жыл бұрын
Hey Dan, how difficult are the anatomy courses?
@DrDanMaggio6 жыл бұрын
Our Anatomy was combined with the Medical program so it was little more focused on the gut and no as much dissection through muscles and nerves as I would have hoped. It was still a great experience but it was a difficult class. make sure you study for it and review your notes often. Just 10 min per day, morning and night can really make a difference too.

Hey Dan, I have a question about PT school. I’d really like to apply for an MSc PT course starting Sep 2019. I have a BA honors degree in Dance and along with learning dance, I took some basic kinesiology, nutrition, injury prevention & treatment classes. Do you think my BA is enough to get me accepted into a MSc in Physiotherapy? Edit: also is there anything you would recommend I do between now and next September to give me a better chance at getting accepted. Thanks 😁

I wanna to take that up so bad but I'm scared I don't want to fail the classes
@Kay_3b7 жыл бұрын
Anna Vandunk it all depends on how bad you really want to be a pt, if you really want this as your career, there's going to be sacrifices and alot of time put into these classes. Current pre pt student, I'm struggling with it too but it's been tolerable for the most part lol good luck with everything though :)
@annaamileav6267 жыл бұрын
Kayleen Bonete thank you can you tell me little about your experience I just want to be a pta
@Kay_3b7 жыл бұрын
So far I could say that it definitely hasn't been easy especially since this past semester I was taking 3 science classes with 1 calculus class too. It was crazy though, I literally had a quiz and test every week so I would be studying nonstop lol. I got a majority of my science classes done, but now starting to work on the actual major prep for kinesiology with an emphasis in prephysical therapy, so this coming semester I'm going to take general Chem, with physics, and another calculus class. I would say that this major definitely isn't the easiest to be in, but I know for a fact that it will be worth it one day. hopefully this will give you a sense of what you're getting into, but good luck with everything! :)
@Kay_3b7 жыл бұрын
as for the pta path I'm well aware that you don't need a bachelor's for that. you just need an associates and a program that's accredited by the actual Pta program. so you wouldn't have to a crazy workload like I am lol

Kayleen Bonete thank you so much I'm encouraged and God bless you he will get you through it hard work pays off

Hi Dan, I am considering PT after my undergraduate. Only what I am so concerned about are prerequisites such as General Chemistry 1, 2 and General Physics 1,2. How did you manage these classes? I've heard you need A's in them in order to be accepted. Seems to scary :) Thanks for the answer!
@TonyDo8 жыл бұрын
Yes, you want to do well in them as PT schools look a lot at your "pre requisite GPA", and of course those are a part of what makes that up. It's really just a matter of putting the time into it, and as you're studying understand the WHY you're doing what it is you're doing to solve the problem, especially for Physics. This applies to Chemistry as well, but those are classes where if you can understand the WHY, when it comes most problems you'll have an idea of what to do. Due to the amount of time I put into those classes, I did very well in them. However, I can see if someone who doesn't put much time into them, they can be quite challenging.

@Shogun9738 жыл бұрын
Theres not many programs that do that I think there is only 1 in the US. You need a bachelors to apply. So after you become a PTA you would have to get another degree before applying to PT school. That being said you will learn most of the stuff we learn in PT school.

Can i major in physio and occupational therapy and go to med school?
@DrDanMaggio6 жыл бұрын
Melissa, good question. In the United states, the fields of physio and Occupational therapy are different than traditional Medical school but they all require degrees after your 4 year undergraduate degree. In other countries, physio is just a 4 year degree, so I can see how you can do both routes. It's difficult but still do-able in the states. Just a lot of schooling to go through :)
@Milou296 жыл бұрын
Dan Maggio how much schooling are we talking?
@DrDanMaggio6 жыл бұрын
4 years undergrad... then PT or OT (+3 years) ... or if you go to med school (+4 years of school/rotations + 3/4 years of further specialization) ... so it's: PT/OT (+3 years) or Med school (7 years without PT/OT before)

thanks bro. your pt videos really motivate me. lol idk if you'd answer this before but what was your gpa in undergrad and how many shadowing hours did you have? I'm close to graduating but i don't have a great gpa, do you think i should re-take some classes to get a better gpa? thanks for your time bro.
@danjoeman7 жыл бұрын
I didn't have a great gpa as well (3.69) but also they look at your science GPA. As far as hours, make sure you meet the minimums for inpatient and outpatient experiences. It doesnt hurt to get more hours.... I worked for a year and a half between undergrad and getting accepted into the program to gain experience as well as accumulate a lot of hours to show I was invested in the field. hope this helps some
@danjoeman7 жыл бұрын
I had a 3.69 science GPA. I defitely had some C's and B's in there.... so i did have to re-take a course or two. but in the end it will pay off. I had the minimum 'In-patient' hours for the schools I applied for and I had about 2 years of Tech experience working in a clinic (this helps the most in my opinion).
