FIRST SHOTS - Tom Cruise on the Set of 'Top Gun: Maverick' - Sequel Now Filming

10/10/18 - Actor Tom Cruise was spotted on the set of the 'Top Gun: Maverick' in Coronado, California outside of San Diego. Tom will be reprising his role as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell for the much-anticipated sequel to the 1986 classic. The 56-year-old actor looked great on the set, wearing his character's trademark flight jacket and aviator sunglasses. The movie is scheduled for release in 2020.

Oh really? Did INDIANA JONES and the KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, recapture even a PIMPLE of greatness from THE LAST CRUSADE? It TRIED to, but ultimately failed, in spite of box-office returns and THAT was "only" 20 years between the two movies, mentioned above. When MAVERICK is released next year, that's 33 YEARS between IT and TOP GUN. The "Home Room Feel" gets lost after such a long time span. I mean, a lot of folks regard the five year difference between TEMPLE OF DOOM and THE LAST CRUSADE as being a major marker why CRUSADE was good, but NOT as good as ToD.

Love all the comparisons between Cruise and Kilmer's looks and how the ageing process has been kinder to some more than others. Smoking, drugs, alcohol, diet, plays a big part in that and I have a feeling that Cruise has been slightly more well behaved (understatement) in many if not all of those aspects of life than Kilmer has.

i bought one of the first Ninjas to be shipped to Canada in the spring of '84 . the fastest production bike and first 150 mph out of the crate.I STILL drive one. Kawasaki produced these in Japan until 2003-the longest run of any sport bike in history. the H2 is an honourable descendant-almost 35 years later....

It was announced that Top Gun 2 is now delayed for a year to set up a 2020 release date. The reason being because of the additional prep work needed for the flight sequences and new tech involved, which I'm certain Tom Cruise wanted to be done all practical with very minimal CGI if any. As of now they have some scenes that were shot, but the rest of principal photography is going to be continued months, if not a year later.

I'm assuming they lowered the bike as he's apparently 5'6" and ride height on H2 is around 32inches. In the images he appears to be straddling it upright with no lean (both feet planted on the ground).

⭐⭐⭐⭐ First time the cinema has made a sequel after 36 years. Unpublished. As unprecedented as the possibility that the second part of "TOP GUN" was better than the first. And it is in many aspects, especially in one of the morals that are addressed to the viewer: "people with extraordinary talents have enormous difficulty in forgiving themselves for the mistakes made throughout their lives and moving forward, without regret the past"... In this sequel we see that Maverick 👨‍✈️ played again by Tom Cruise, has refused to rise through his promising career in the Navy and to have a happy family, after he never managed to get over the death of his best friend (Goose), which he always felt guilty about. Maverick goes so far as to plan his own death in one last suicide mission, not suspecting that he would be unexpectedly rescued by the son of his friend who died 36 years ago (Rooster, played by Miles Teller). Goose, from the afterlife "would not let go of his hand" 🤝 and thanks to the mysteries of life Maverick would finally get his well-deserved redemption, being "rescued" by his loved ones in many unexpected ways [...] The movie "shakes you" without a doubt, both for his performances and for the high level of his aerial acrobatics, never before seen in the cinema until now. And remember: "in the face of enormous difficulty, the important thing is not the type of plane, but the skill and courage of its pilot"... The Kawasaki GPZ900R was rather cutting edge when the first movie was released. First 16-valve (four valve per cylinder) liquid-cooled inline four cylinder production sportbike, with 908cc displacement and 115 bhp capable of 151 mph. Only fitting to choose the supercharged H2 for the sequel.
